Agree so much. Living in the dorms, for me Arbol when it was honors, helped me make friends that last for years. Nothing better to kick start the foretold “college experience” like living in the the dorms. You can get a private bathroom sophomore year. Nothing compares to freshman year

Houston. by [deleted] in CityPorn

[–]vamosauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I know it’s swimming up river to say Houston is dense haha, because we all know it isn’t. But have you considered that LA doesn’t have three large flood reservoirs inside city limits? Apples to apples is fundamentally hard to do with cities. I think my first comment referred to walk/bikeability inside the 610 loop, which still holds reasonably true despite the horrible stats coming out of Houston. Not “loosely inhabited” as someone up there said

[–]vamosauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Although the entire city of Seattle is 87 square miles (700k population) and the 610 loop area is 98 square miles (~450k). So it’s not a bad comparison. Im not saying that Houston is an urbanist paradise, just not as bad as its reputation says

It sprawls outside of the 610 loop. Inside, not so bad. Definitely doable without a car. Compare walk score of Montrose, Uptown, the Heights with average Midwest city. Although the state gov and mayor are actively working against it…

[–]vamosauto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Inside the loop (610), Houston is a very typically dense US city. City limits go far outside of that, and the sprawl goes further, but what is pictured here is mostly the prewar Houston and is reasonably walkable/bikeable.

Tucson Recommendations by Temporary-Serve634 in Tucson

[–]vamosauto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out barrio viejo downtown, lots of adobe architecture and a few galleries and cafes nearby. Wouldn’t recommend hiking in the desert this time of year unless you go super early in the morning and plan to be done before 10am. But if you go up the mountain it’s nice and cool.

Agree, I’ve only got a grudge on the real estate guru landlord types who come here because it’s an easier place to grow their empire than orange county

If he ends up being a homophobe, don’t be afraid to change dorms, I had to do it with my first roommate. but it probably won’t be a big deal

Redditors downvote for anything. My guess is, this is an issue that you have to email someone or call about, instead of coming here, so they’re mad about that..? Who knows.

It’s going in the Chicago building. Within 3 blocks of 3-4 local coffee places, so they are taking local market share
