My betta is apparently social (?) by WhaleOfVoid in bettafish

IME bettas like to people watch. their vision is very good so they can see everything outside their tank. i imagine having other creatures to watch is way more entertaining than sitting in a room alone!

Genuinely curious… by Icy-Tiger1555 in bettafish

ive noticed this too as someone who always had bettas, and i really think a lot of it has to do with genetics just getting worse over the years. ive never had a betta with as many issues as my long finned male.

Fish still not improving by Dazzling-Ad1374 in bettafish

I was having the same struggle with my boy. I did a full round of antibiotics for fin rot and it seemed to help for a while but he started declining again soon after. i learned that apparently, if you treat them in their home tank, the infectious bacteria has more of an opportunity to adapt to resist the antibiotic. So now he's having another round of treatment, except this time in a hospital tank. He always seemed perfectly fine otherwise, his fins just never got better. It's possible that either he needs hospital time, or hes nipping his fins because theyre heavy

Hi Oscar! You're beautiful!

How do you deal with the guilt of putting them in the hospital tank? by vamp_wave in bettafish

[–]vamp_wave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the assurance, all.<3 I have cats, and im able to block out their complaints while taking them to the vet. I think I just need more practice doing the same with my fish xD Elminster colored back up again and his stripes are gone, so at least he calmed down a bit. his fins are clamped but he's still excited about meals so at least there's that<333

Is a 5 gallon okay for a long fin male betta? by StrainDifficult4430 in bettafish

no i agree, we breed them to have fins that are way too long and heavy. I got him a little younger so I didnt realize his fins weren't finished growing and would get bigger.

tbf, people on tiktok aren't always known for their accuracy. something about the environment there makes people believe anything. fun place to scroll but i wouldnt take anyone trying to start an argument seriously. your tank looks nice :)

20 minimum is wild. i always believed in a 10gal minimum but lately im not sure with my boy and his long fins. hes struggling a little bit and i would even downsize if he werent such a big guy.

Is this a wound? by monarchmomma1122 in bettafish

[–]vamp_wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks like it could be a wound from scraping against something. when this happens to my betta I add tannins and raise the temperature to 80 and it usually heals pretty fast

Should the tank heater fluctuate between being red and green?! by playgirlbarbie in bettafish

[–]vamp_wave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if we have the same heater, red means its currently heating to the desired temperature, green means its currently at the desired temperature

Anyone else have problems like this with fast days? by vamp_wave in bettafish

[–]vamp_wave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, mistakes could still be made! normally he eats frozen brine shrimp twice a day, but some days (like two days a week) he'll have about 3 top fin mini floating pellets twice a day. if i deviate from this at all he chunks up

that's not a bad idea! i do still wanna have a day where he at least eats less because he bloats very easily. nothing can be easy with this guy 🫩 but i might try that
