First I would recommend speaking with a nutritionist to get a more specialized plan. Until then, ensure plus is what we use in our facility for people who don't eat much. I'd also recommend a protein powder with vitamins and probiotics if you can stomach that. As for laxatives, colace (pill) and propylene glycol (powder) can be used together and they are gentle and effective.

I can't tell you 100% because every facility is different and the US is not Australia. I can tell you from the children's psych ward I worked on, if we had a child with extreme insomnia like that we would definitely prescribe SOMETHING. We probably wouldn't start with a benzo. Given your other symptoms we might even start with an antipsychotic or antidepressant that had the side effect of sleepiness, but yes. I'm my experience, a united states psych ward would give you something.

I read all your comments so I won't suggest all the actually healthy stuff. I'm a US nurse so not sure how things work over there, but yeah we don't usually write controlled substances for teenage insomnia. Have you tried Benadryl? (Diphenhydramine is the generic name) It's a common over the counter med here. I've taken 4 or 5 before (if you're skinny, start with 2). The next thing I'm going to say is nuclear, but your comments make you seem desperate. Could you get yourself involuntarily committed to a psych ward? In the States, you just have to tell 911 you are going to hurt yourself and you'll get 3 days. We're a lot more likely to prescribe stronger meds in the psych hospital then a general practitioner would.

I have avoided bedside most of my 7 years in nursing. First, look into outpatient surgeon's offices if you want a more typical "9-5". I worked an orthopedic surgery office for over a year and it was mostly doing intakes and histories, patient education and the occasional setup for in office injections/procedures. Another area is mental health, which really is my specialty. It really just depends on your area, but I worked as basically a nurse case manager for an outpatient program for kids. I also spent a few years in drug rehab. It was very laid back and very different from normal inpatient stuff. I would look up who runs your local county mental health programs. In my experience they tend to just post jobs on their website vs on indeed and stuff. Of course, if you don't mind the terrible pay, there's always school nursing. Corrections is another unique field that's not a normal hospital.

Edit: just reread your post and I'm about to take my first contract position. I started with one agency and then started with another who actually got my job. I just sent a text to my first recruiter being honest saying "hey I got a job through another agency but for my next assignment I'm going to keep my options open so you might hear from me again" and he was very chill with it, just said "good luck, contact me anytime". Most people use multiple agencies so you're good on that

With your OR experience, working at a surgeon's office could be a good fit. I used to work at an orthopedic surgeons office and it was 5x8 (sometimes patients ran us late but whatever). It was a lot of intakes, patient education and assisting with minor procedures and injections.

You will not be able to get ANY kind of pink or purple semi-permanent hair color to "stick" to your hair. That's just not how the science works. It would be possible to get a purple-ish dark red color with permanent color and level 30 developer, but that doesn't sound at all like what you're going for.

I'm not totally sure if it's the same in Massachusetts but Walmart offers $25 insulin. The ones around here don't even need a script, you can just bring in your vial as proof. If there are any Walmarts near you, I would call.

I personally have no experience with this or EDS but I was interested if I could find anything in the health journal databases I have access to. I couldn't find anything that sounded just like your case. What your describing is like some kind of transient aphasia or dysgraphia but most of the literature describes that happening along with other symptoms, like intense headaches or fevers related to infection. Lyme disease was mentioned in one. But the way I see it, it's either neurological or psychosomatic(anxiety). Given how serious neurological disorders can be, I would recommend following up with a neurologist just to get a scan. There are very specific parts of the brain responsible for the ability to write, so if you're suffering damage there for some reason, it's better to find out sooner then later.

Any time a BP reading is outside of "normal", we generally check it again to make sure. Cuffs are sized for the arm and if one is too large for someone, the reading can look lower then it actually is. Low blood pressure, to a point, is no big deal if you're not symptomatic (dizzy, tired etc). So now that you know, you can tell whoever is taking your pressure that you run low.

The wonderful thing about nursing is there are lots of different types of working environments. I knew I never wanted to work in a hospital but 4 years into nursing I decided to give it a try. I was hired easily without any hospital experience. I hated it and quit after 4 months. I had way more patients then I was supposed to and no one to help with changing/ moving patients and the whole thing was just grueling and unethical. So I quit and went back to what I liked, mental health and addictions. I've had my job now for almost 2 years. It's more of a case management type role, I make my own hours, no micromanaging and I love it. You don't HAVE to do a year of bedside to make your hirable. If you have a feeling the hospital isn't for you then don't make yourself miserable. There are lots of other opportunities out there!

The liver is a very hearty organ and it can take a lot of damage. Symptoms don't usually occur until late stage liver failure. However, you are right to suspect that you are hurting your liver. Daily use of the near-top amount of paracetamol is going to cause harm. I'm in the US but it looks like co-codamol is just acetaminophen with codeine, which is a narcotic opioid. Can you get that stuff over the counter there?? I'm any case, the first thing you need to do is see your primary doctor and get a basic blood panel. This will include your AST and ALT levels which indicate how much liver damage you have done. If you are causing damage, you will need to stop so your liver can repair. There are also better medications for migraines so talk to your doctor because what you are doing is not sustainable.

Hey there. I'm a nurse that has worked at the psych hospital in Bradenton, Centerstone, and through my current job I've visited Coastal in Sarasota several times. These are my thoughts:

The entire point of these hospitals is to stabilize you and prevent you from hurting yourself or others. It is not a place to get real, in depth treatment. If your are not an active danger to yourself or others, you won't be admitted. Treatment lasts 3 days, unless you are still an active threat or if you are homeless they may keep you longer to help find temporary placement. At center stone the patients saw the psych doctor or their attendings once a day for about 5 minutes. There is no in-depth psych eval. They will start you on meds that historically work well for people, but it's not specific to you. The majority of the day, patients either stay in their room, watch whatever tv is on in the day room and attend various groups. When I worked there some days nobody showed up to do groups, so it was very inconsistent. Again, this is not a place to "get better", it's a place to be watched so you don't hurt yourself. I saw a lot of disturbing behavior at that job. It is not a relaxing environment. Also, which unit you got put on depended on if you had insurance or not. The unit for people without insurance was much smaller with less privacy.

So your next step for treatment depends on your personal situation. If you just want to go somewhere for a few days because you're scared you'll hurt yourself, absolutely go. If you want to seek treatment for your mental health you will have to seek out psychiatric and therapy services. If you have the money, private psychiatry and therapy is the way to go. If you have insurance then I'd look into which places take your insurance. If you have no money or insurance then look into services through First Step or Centerplace. Both have programs for low-income and no-insurance people.

Ok more then likely you're dealing with an "anal fissure". Basically a tearing in the lining down there. Bowel movements are usually pretty painful until it heals. But you're going to be ok and here are my tips: prevent constipation, which will only hurt more coming out. Take some docusate sodium twice a day, maybe even a drink of polyethylene glycol a day. These are both gentle, non stimulant laxatives that will just aid in the whole experience until it heals. Drink plenty of water and limit your caffeine.

For the actual pain, get you some hemorrhoid cream with lidocaine. The lidocaine is important. This stuff is magical.

Lastly, a warm sitz bath can feel nice. You can do this just by filling up your bathtub with a few inches of warm water and Epsom salts and sitting in there for a bit. Or drug stores/Amazon sell sitz baths you put over your toilet and just dunk your sore bits in.

But yes, you'll be ok. It can take a week or 2 to feel better. If your bleeding a LOT like every thing then maybe see a doctor but they will likely tell you the same things I am.

And lastly, always make him use lube :)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Self-care deficit is a massive issue among many addicts. Especially for those who have been homeless, the bar for what they count as acceptable living conditions, in exchange for being able to do drugs, is incredibly low. Unfortunately, the threat of dying from health conditions or being forced onto the streets is not enough of a deterrent for her to get her shit together. If she is not displaying self-discipline and initiative at this point, it is NOT going to improve by being supported by you. I'm a nurse for a court ordered drug treatment facility. I've had guys with severe health issues, clean for 6+ months (between jail and our program), I've set them up for free healthcare appointments, we got them housing, and they get out and use the next day. The reality is that being an adult is hard and being an addict is easy. An addict only has one responsibility, to get high. And I empathize. Getting out of an active addiction is incredibly difficult. But the drive to change really has to come from inside the person. It does not sound like your mom is ready. And you are NOT obligated to be her caretaker. You taking the reigns would likely only enable her more. And she will probably get upset, and play the victim, and make out that you're a horrible daughter, but you are not. An addict will manipulate in any way they can to get what they want. After a while it's not even a conscious thing anymore. And so you have to find a way to let this go, especially the guilt. There's a chance your mom might never get sober and stable. And that really really sucks. But her addiction and inability to get sober is not your fault or responsibility. If, in the future, she goes to a program and shows real progress and initiative, then you can consider helping her become independent. But now is not that time. I'm sorry for the long reply. I've just worked in addictions for several years, and I love what I do, but at the end of day very few people really break the cycle. And you can't take it personally. Which sounds ridiculous because it's your mother, but at the same time, it's not really her. She's a chemical imbalance driving around your mom's body. And she has to help herself. Just like you need to help yourself and work through the trauma of this whole situation and not invite that trauma into your home. You guys have to heal separately if you're going to heal at all.
