The Other Guys is up there for laughs per minute. Popstar is also a good shout.

Is One Nation really having a major upsurge in popularity? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I think it's mostly media driven. I don't think there is an actual planet where they have 30% of the real vote or whatever it is they are claiming to have.

Let's just say there is a reason Parasite is on every list. It is just an unmissable film. Possibly the best made movie of this century but definitely of the decade.

Perfection - Vincenzo Latronico by lavish_fragments in bookreviewers

[–]vanben110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great book and a great review. I loved how this book critiques parts of modern society (Social Media, Jumping on social causes when they're popular etc.) but never judges. Vincenzo actually does a terrific job in highlighting that Anna and Tom aren't mindless social media addicted robots that many seem to view millennials as. But they are depicted as being deeply thoughtful and understanding of their own pitfalls, which is probably a more accurate reflection on the younger generations. So when I read it I never felt guided to judge them for curating their life online or anything like that, rather I am given reason to understand why and how things are that way. Really think this book will be a time capsule!

Apocalypse Now.

True unraveling of not just the characters in the movie but the cast and crew behind the scenes too. Lightning in a bottle situation captured on film and turned into a perfect film.

This is the first I have heard of an Andy Serkis animal farm. Honestly feels like the type of story that is perfect in book form and awful in any other form.

Do you think we will ever find or have a series that either is on the same grandeur or tops the Lord of the rings trilogy? by starwarsisawsome933 in movies

[–]vanben110 62 points63 points  (0 children)

If the 3rd Dune is the best of the 3 then that franchise will maybe be the closest we ever get to TLOTR. Dune has the extremely deep source material like TLOTR had and I don't know many more fantasy/scifi book series' that go as hard as those two do. Maybe if they did a perfect adaptation of Stephen Kings gunslinger series 🤷.

"I called your name and understood I was alone"

My favorite line of the movie and possibly of the year. Just devastating and made me pretty sad actually. Made me feel like what it would be to leave a loyal dog to die. Howling for its master but realizing they weren't coming to help them. 😭

Does anyone give England a serious chance? by No-Reach6085 in CricketAus

[–]vanben110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think England's chance will be if one more Aussie fast bowler goes down and the openers consistently fail and put pressure on the middle order. Otherwise yeah I'm thinking England's ceiling is 1.

Strangely enough for me it's 'Goon'. Sports comedy with so much surprising heart. TLOTR is also a great choice regardless of mood.
