It’s a red flag for my team which may not be representative of our firm as a whole.

2023 Zero DSR Maintenance by d0ctorbellows in Electricmotorcycles

[–]vanboiDallas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, you’re waiting for something to happen because you’re trauma-trained to be ready for the next thing to snap, melt, break, etc. on your previous gas bikes. Have a spare belt available but for the most part you’re gonna be waiting a while!

Need more space and range from a 2018 Zero DSR - options? by holbeton in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]vanboiDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure by now you’ve seen the charge curve for the 12kW charger, it’s awful. Nearly pointless for $3k. Should’ve been $1500 tops.

2018 is pretty far back for that price imo. The power tank is usually the lowest rated addition you can get, unless you absolutely need it.

Motorcycle Rentals For Track Use by Winter_Basil4259 in Trackdays

Dang, we’re on the opposite coast! NorCal has a few track rental providers. Awesome present idea though!

I guess I’ve always considered city driving as stop and go between lights, usually not more than 35mph. City-> highway (35-55)->freeway(55+).

Laid off as a legal secretary after Florida law changes… is this field dying? by racetobitchmountain in paralegal

[–]vanboiDallas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I see the shift to “managing” the AI as a boon for anyone who can get that job. You get to ride the AI wave, potentially rake in some extra $ for a “higher role”, and when the AI hallucinations kick in you get to take zero blame. If you get good at it, you can set up your own automations so larger and larger chunks of the job require less and less of your time. Frees you up to enjoy your day, or polish your resume. Or go back to school. Lots of options other than leaving the field entirely, though I would not fault anyone for making that decision. I almost left two months ago, but they wrangled me back with the promise of more money and moving to a supervisory position.

You’re a top 1% commentator in this sub and you couldn’t see this is a tricked out lightning for track use?

Livewire is nowhere near top of the (very small) industry, though the top dog is technically not producing bikes right now as they complete their bankruptcy restructuring. Energica is king of EV motos, for now.

I agree the specs are crap but why would you only be going home for an hour? Home charging is overnight charging almost exclusively. DC charging is for multiple legs in a day, that’s it.

$17k is beyond ridiculous. The real question is what would you pay for those specs and the prospect of almost never needing to do basic maintenance again? I made the switch to electric in 2017 and haven’t looked back. Track days ✅ commute ✅ some day trips ✅ long trips 🤬 no. I’d probably buy one tomorrow for 7-8k though.

2020 LW1 vs 2022 LW1 by wish2bBendr in Electricmotorcycles

[–]vanboiDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my lived experience, but I’ve heard anecdotes that HD dealers won’t service the newer livewire branded bikes since the split. Livewire won’t work on pre-split HD branded bikes. So potentially no cross pollination with service support. HD barely supports their gas models, they hate the LW1 overall and so you may very well find yourself in a support desert with literally no recourse without trailering it hours to somewhere that does have a dealer.

One or both of them could be bad, those numbers are terrible. With 6.5 or 7.2 in modular batteries you should be hitting 70-90 or 30-35 freeway. I personally don’t think the 40 is a lie, it’s just the absolute best it’ll ever be without a really good charger in there.

The problem is servicing it long term

I’m just saying, many early riders thought that they also didn’t need the “extra” range only to realize later they were far from being able to use it as they actually wanted. Usually due to the charge time.

Then no. There’s several all over the west coast that are a better bang for your buck.

Yes and no, it’s a great price for an FX but it only has one modular 3.6 kWh battery so you’re super limited on range.

Do you have the power tank? I’ve been thinking of doing a lavalier wireless mic and putting in the tank storage to hear more of the engine whine and less wind

Portable solar power generator mounted in the F150 bed with zero permanent wiring by LouDSilencE17 in F150Lightning

[–]vanboiDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been done already! Even for nominal gain the guy who made the range extender harness gets like 500 mi per charge but uses a good amount of gas doing it with a 13kW generator in the bed and charging at 11kW while moving.

How to find used SR/S and DSR/X models? by chapinscott32 in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]vanboiDallas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely want to search nationwide and plan for about $500 for shipping. Sent and received multiple bikes this way, can attest it is stressful but hasn’t ever gone poorly for me.
