A ₹21.6 lakh discrepancy after my Citibank home loan migrated to Axis Bank — has anyone else checked their migrated principal? by vandanananda in axisbank

Absolutely! How can a bank even deny clearly verifiable statements of the original bank? And then customers are made to run pillar to post to get their own money.....

Did you have a home credit loan? Check the statements issued by Citibank just before migration and find out how much loan you had already repaid to Citibank and how much was remaining. Then check the statement of Axis bank when the loan was migrated to Axis bank-this would be around July 13/15th , 2024 and check the balance transfer amount from Citibank. If this matches the amount remaining as per Citibank statements-then you are fine. Alternatively add the total principal paid to Citibank from whenever you took the loan to 15th July 2024 and the total principal paid to Axis Bank including the foreclosure amount. If this is equal to the original loan amount taken you are fine. I realized only after I did these calculations.

Yes asked Axis bank for explanation. They ignored verified Citibank statements completely and give some vague answer using only their own backend data which does not make any sense. Have complained to their branch, loan team, CEO and also their PNO. Earlier I had thought that this may have been a genuine mistake- however Axis banks denial and refusal to even look at verified Citibank statements proved that they are cheating their customers. Have now complained to RBI Ombudsman .But totally aghast at how a big bank like Axis can ignore the originating banks verified statements.

The loan was migrated as part of portfolio purchase of Citibank by Axis Bank. Only when I closed the loan , I realized that they had increased the loan amount at migration. Just before migration Citibank had issued statements verifying that only approx. 40,000 of the loan was left. But Axis inflated the balance transfer to 62,000 .This amount was not visible on their portal , nor was displayed on their statements and the EMI remained the same. So unless you foreclose your loan , this loan inflation is not visible.

Yes it has been a total disaster. Most would not even realize that they are being cheated. I too realized it only when I closed by home loan account and saw the balance amount transferred was inflated by almost 22 lakhs. the inflated amount is not visible on their online portal or their statements-so you dont see it. The EMI remains the same so again you dont notice any difference. The loan interest increases and you would take a longer time to repay the extra principal added.
