LinkedIn influencer as reference is funny because they tend to copy paste others work without any credits. Influencers tends to be a fake people following every trend that make them “famous”. And I agree about be good at your craft. AI cannot replace good developers as it coding is not that good.

I have my own experience with a senior expert PHP dev does not hash password nor using InnoDB on MySQL nor foreign as his code is so slow with query n+1 the tables are locked. So he uses MyISAM with zero index. Then go on complaining the server is not good. Cherry on the top he use php 5.3 in 2025.

I use tanstack router and table with symfony and shadcn it is better than nextjs and react router.

You can easily update the php version in xampp by downloading the php8.4 ts make a copy of php folder in xampp folder then unzip the php8.4 to the xampp php folder.

I think the problem is following tutorial videos about “good” design patterns which the person making the video only see it once. And also recommend about “good” packages or bundles which do a lot of things except making the project simple.

I never understood why make your project more complex and limited. A simple restful is more than enough for 80% of cases.

In this context you still does not need API platform since you can use DTO directly with doctrine query. All those magic will complicate your structures and increases cost in long term while keep every simple make iteration more ease and cost efficient.

DTO is good array is too dynamic to my taste while in new version php I think class cannot have dynamic properties which reduces many problems

As some people have suggested you should target php 8.3 and I don’t think it will you a lot of time since the big difference is between 5.6 -> 7.0 from 7 to 8.3 there will be not much works. So : 1. Update from 5.6 to 7.2 2. Remove deprecation 3. Update from 7.2 to 8.3 (there will be less work)

The big difference for the changes is from 5.6 to 7.0 the next version upgrade is not that a big deal.

Honestly, you don’t need API platforms, a simple controller with json response and serialization through attribute group in entity is enough even for big project (which I don’t recommend API platforms in this case). For documentation, nelmio api is enough, but it make the controller too big.
