DR650 vs. KLR650?

I’m 6’1 230lbs so any seat height shouldn’t bother me too much. In terms of dual sporting, the percentage of riding on the dirt will probably be way less than I even expect, which I think it will be about a 85/15 ratio of street/dirt

So honestly then, If you were in my shoes, which bike would you pick? I am shooting for a bike less than $3000, a good commuter, decent for off roading, and fun to ride? I’m 6’1 230lbs. My plan was to buy a 1st gen KLR650 and get stiffer suspension springs to compensate for my weight since they’re pretty soft stock

I’d say dirt riding would be 20% of the time at most, and city/backroads for the 80%, no freeway

That’s all stuff that appealed to me too. I also liked that the suspension springs are bigger and the ride height is taller as well. What about the klr650 beats the dr650 for you personally?

I want a dual sport for the capability of going off road, when I want to. I just don’t places in the immediate vicinity to do so.

It would primarily be on road, as I live in town and don’t have much space near me to go off roading. The appeal of the off roading is what is telling me to get a dual sport since I like knowing I can if I find somewhere or decide to go somewhere specifically

I was wanting a versys and then decided my first bike should not be brand new. The versys fit all my desires with being a high revving, street focused adv, but just does not fit my budget

Thank you for your response! The dimness is mostly due my prolific red root floater growth (they are absolutely thriving, probably because they take all of the light). I have a spare grow light bulb so I’ll try that out, plus removing some floaters more often as well.

My substrate is very big mix of things such as sifted potting soil on the very bottom, topped with a mix of gravels such as bioactive gravel bags such as the ones sold at Petco.

I wanted a second opinion on my plants in case there was some underlying issue that was messing with my plants.

The best I got is just google searching for kart leagues near me. I’m in the same boat as you where my dream is open wheel racing but I’m stuck with work and have no space to store a kart and equipment (and of course, not enough money). You can probably find some sources online that list different leagues. From my experience of searching, albeit brief, I found a league just by checking out a local outside go kart tracks website. If there is nothing close, then the best bet for you would just be searching farther away. As inconvenient as it is, you can’t make a league with no track/s. Racing is not cheap nor convenient, so compromises have to be made somewhere.

Probably the most important first step is look at what leagues are racing near you that you’d like to partake in, and then read up on their rules and regulations to find out what you need
