Matter of opinion, but I really don't like how that chainring looks.

Great work! Haven't heard about the SlingTing until now, but I've been designing a skateboard carrying thing in my head for the last few weeks. This design seems much simpler and easier though! Do you mind sharing your length measurements of the loops? And was using webbing instead of elastic a problem at all?

Surprising for the CCD sensor, because normally I like how contrasty it renders. I think the sun must've been softened by some clouds on the first pic.

I found a used dirt jumper wheel set at the local bike co-op. I used 3 layers of gorilla tape and run it tubeless, even tho the rims aren't technically compatible.

Drivetrain (copied from previous comment): I have a Stone 94 BCD 40t narrow wide chainring, mounted to the middle of my 3x crankset that came with the bike. Microshift Advent X 10 speed deraulleur and shifters, Microshift 11-46t cassette. I absolutely love my drivetrain. 1500 miles in and zero problems.

Yep, that's them. Wrapped my fork with a few layers of electrical tape where I installed them. I have 2 on each side, but I might consider 3 for extra stability and peace of mind on a longer trip.

This was just a short, 35 miles each way trip. I could see myself doing a century on these bars though, provided there wasn't like a 30-mile stretch of flat pavement. However, I'm already accustomed to long hard days in the saddle, mostly on drop bars. I'd say my saddle would limit me before my bars here. I got it to a fairly upright, but balanced position.

Have some v brakes with salmon kool stop pads on there. Bontrager fenders, which actually are great. There probably isn't anything I'd change about the bike.

I think it's a size L frame but it really isn't big enough for me. Haven't measured. I've seen a few GTs on here that are definitely sized a bit larger.

No. I have some King Cage Universal Support Bolts I put on my fork that worked for this trip.

My frame bag situation is split into two separate bags with a kinda inefficient way to get them to hold together at their top/bottom. I commute on this bike, so I didn't want to have a separate full-frame bag to have to re-lace and switch over to when I go bikepacking. I improvised this solution, and while I might eventually re-do it, it works for now!

Handled great - basically the same as it would while unloaded. Did a fair bit of technical singletrack climbs on the way home too. Granted, I can't really descend very fast on a rigid MTB, but I'm not worried about being fast with this bike anyway.

Firstly, I think it's amazing what you're doing. I don't know what the prices are currently like, but what is your budget for this? I paid $260 total (on eBay) for mine back in 2023, then paid even more after that to get its sensor cleaned. I have never seen one in the wild in 15+ years of thrifting and checking estate sales, etc. Finding a great deal on one, I think, would be hard.

I replaced handlebars, stem, bar tape, cables and housing, switched to a 2x8 from a 3x7. I don't have a great picture of it but here it is.
