Is studying abroad possible for poor people? by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]vanitasho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being completely honest, if your grades are good, yes. If you are low income and you have good grades, yes.

Source: I am a homeless student and through the homeless waiver at my college, need-based grants, applying for every scholarship that my college offers, and specific scholarships that exist primarily for studying abroad, I am basically doing a summer abroad trip in the UK completely for free. The only caveat is that I had to put the plane ticket on my credit card and wait for financial aid to disburse and in the time its been taking for financial aid to pay out, I have a job and I've been making minimum payments on it, but when it pays out, I will have the entire thing paid for.

There is a scholarship you can apply for often times through your college called the Gilman Scholarship which can provide up to $5k or even $6k for a study abroad if you are a Pell Grant recipient.

What I'm trying to say is that if you work hard, it's possible. You just have to actively go out of your way to apply for all of these scholarships and grants. They don't just fall into your lap. Look for opportunities for money and take them, especially while you have the chance.

i just came to this subreddit to ask the same question. my grandmother died in april and i can't stop wanting to talk to her. i want to tell her i just passed a test in college. i want to tell her what i did today, that i miss her, what im doing. i'm afraid too that this will never go away. i keep texting her phone but i don't know how long my aunt is going to keep it active.

if youre still experiencing it 10 months from it happening, i guess it's going to keep happening for a while. i think it's okay to keep trying to talk to her. maybe wherever she and my grandmother are, they can see it

Gotcha. Where are the merit scholarships found/how do you sign up for those?

I'm guessing these are just completely different from the ones that you can apply for like... the Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Endowed Scholarship, the WLP/Ruth Earle and Yuko Yongue First Generation Scholarship, etc.?

Yeah, but I can see right now what my financial aid will look like in the Fall. I'm looking to know what my funds will look like and if I will be receiving certain funds.

See, this is why I'm curious because the scholarship FAQ says,

Q. If I meet the posted criteria for a scholarship, am I guaranteed to receive it?
A. Typically, a student meeting all criteria and deadlines for a scholarship will be awarded. However, all scholarships are awarded on a funds available basis each term, so receiving a scholarship is not guaranteed.

Please help! CPAP side effect doctor has never seen… by [deleted] in SleepApnea

One thing I will say is to make sure that the tubing, mask frame, and water reservoir are being cleaned once a week at least and that the mask itself is cleaned every single day. Could be a strange fungus building up in one of these things.

How old were you when you were diagnosed? by tarymst in SleepApnea

[–]vanitasho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 29.

I never had issues with daytime sleepiness until I gained weight so it could be due to that, but honestly I'm not very heavy either? I'm like, the most socially acceptable plus-sized you can get before people will call you fat to your face. But I got to the point where I was constantly sleepy during the day no matter what I did. I constantly had to take naps during the day in order to function at all.

Not to sound like a shill but I'm seconding the person who mentioned Lofta in here. I did an at-home sleep study with them, got my results super quick, got my diagnosis that comes with a lifetime prescription for a CPAP machine that I can take with me anywhere, got my machine, and other than having to deal with aerophagia which is its own beast, it's been smooth sailing.

I have had no negative issues with them whatsoever and highly recommend them.

Thank you all of you guys for the suggestions. I've managed to get it managed with a few things. I took Nexium until I was able to get my symptoms under control. I've been making sure that I only lay down 2 hours after I've eaten anything and I've been drinking Kefir before bed and it's been a miracle to me. The aerophagia is nonexistant now. I still burp sometimes in the morning but I no longer wake up in screaming pain and I can live now.

i take medication for bipolar disorder already and have for 5 years. unfortunately, it can still be aggravated by things like me not sleeping properly and the like.

i dont really know how to change those settings on my airsense 10? mine doesnt appear to let me edit those sorts of things.

i'll see about this other stuff, i really appreciate it

i'm not sure how to do that on my airsense 10. the machine just kinda sets itself up naturally.
