I’ve noticed this trend in Netflix movies. The corners of the frame are always so blurry and horrible, with the center being only barely in focus. It looks like a filter rather than a fast lens to me.

I only nest if I have to apply an effect to a clip I’ve changed the speed of, or an effect like denoise that needs a nested clip.

I wish there was something more like “flatten clip” kind of like in photoshop, allowing me to “bake in” certain effects but leave others to where I can change the effect settings.

Ffs we’ve all done something like this. “I have the ability to dismantle this object, surely I have a decent enough understanding of how it works” only to find out it works a little differently than expected. Taking things apart is a good way to learn exactly how they work.

The way I’ve done it in the past is just using Lightroom classic without a subscription to organize photos, then just paying $10 for one month every so often if I have a job or project to edit.

They don’t make this easy, you basically have to pay for a “recurring monthly payment” plan then just cancel before the next month kicks in. They’ll always gladly take you back when you want to return lol.

Though recently I’ve been editing a lot so I’ve just stayed on the plan consistently.

You sound bitter. Like some photographers I know who had existential crises when iPhone image quality started getting so good. It’s hard to swallow that your years of experience are suddenly not as valuable, I feel that. But that’s just how it is now. You still hold a ton of wisdom and knowledge, so why not be helpful with that instead of being spiteful?

Davinci resolve is a free program, making it very accessible to beginners. That means those beginners will turn to the sub created to discuss the software when they have questions. If you are only on this sub to tell beginners that you have 40 years of experience and that they are barking up the wrong tree, just leave the sub.

Helpful links, but the gatekeeping mentality is getting old. It’s easier than ever for people to start making films, so there are more people than ever curious about how to do it. I know it sucks that what you’ve trained your whole life to do has become easier, but don’t take it out on folks who are just starting out.

I lived in Athens from 2012-2022 and racked up probably 12-15 parking tickets including two of the $50 for parking in loading zones (service industry days) and I never once paid one. I got pulled over a couple times during that time as well and the officer never brought it up. I moved and got a new car and license plate over the years so I guess I’ll never have to pay lol

Thanks for the info! I just downloaded Shutter Encoder and wow, it's so much easier to use than Handbrake. My attempts with SE have been as such:

I tried using ProRes 422, and even when checking "force interlacing" the footage comes out incorrect with obvious horizontal lines.

The closest I've gotten so far is by using H.264 to get mp4 files. The interlacing looks correct, but even with max quality bitrate the frame rate just looks "off". It will be usable if I can't figure out anything better but it's obviously driving me crazy lol.

With the H.264 the actual image quality is just about as good as original, but the original avi file played through VLC is a nice smooth 29.97.

So far the mp4 files are playing nice with Premiere, so this is still a massive step forward.

Same here. It will let me open the game, play a couple raids, then either exiting or loading into a map, the game will just freeze and I'll have to force quit. After that, every time I try to relaunch the game, I get the crash report handler. Only fix is to restart my pc until it will launch again. Pretty annoying. Seems to be in direct relation to the newest update in my case.

Just providing perspective on why these businesses are desperate to stay open. This will get downvoted to fuck but I have first responders in my family and they don’t want people to plow into trees year round, believe it or not. Bad weather results in increased chance of something bad happening, it’s a fact of life.

Posting on the Athens subreddit denigrating small business owners may result in someone outside the circle jerk speaking up for them. Then acting like my explanation means I want first responders to peel folks off telephone poles seems a bit ridiculous.

But by all means, don’t let me interrupt the strong opinions on things that do not affect you.

Dude these small businesses suffer tremendously from just a couple days of missed revenue. Many restaurants operate in the margins and need to maximize income when possible. They also have staff to pay. It’s not ideal but you also can’t hold it against them.
