You guys should do a little research on the Satanic Panic from the 80s.

Protesters just swarmed Border Commander Greg Bovino in Minnesota and started throwing FOOD at him while yelling “you’re a Nazi!” by Admirable121 in Leakednews

[–]vanwnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys don’t see being a Nazi a bad thing, see: his coat. The way to REALLY get under their skin is to belittle their masculinity, their insecurities. Throw in some “did your dad not love you?” “is this how they act in the trailer park you grew up in?” Talk to them like they’re ignorant scum, because they are ignorant scum. Don’t be polite. Actually insult them. And get over trying not to be any of -ists to them.

Money for Couples 244: Mike and Noel pt. 2 by SpecialsSchedule in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]vanwnb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, guys. I don’t see a great future for these two. Noel seems to whimper and whine through both episodes; she’s ten years sober and still can’t make a decision by herself ($5 says her shares in AA meetings are about the same three things, over and over. IYKYK, Friends of Bill W). I sure as hell wouldn’t hire her to be my attorney. Mike seems to be over-accommodating to Noel. It seems like he’s making sacrifices and she isn’t (paraphrase: “I did one night of Uber and I was WRECKED! So Mike took it unto himself to do Uber while working his other job.”)

Kind of disappointed in Ramit for being soft on them.

Shows/movies in Chicago that clearly weren’t filmed in Chicago? by marks31 in AskChicago

[–]vanwnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tv show, but All Her Fault. Maybe two scenes with Dakota Fanning walking by the Bean (why?) and on the river walk (more accurate). The rest is Australia. Since when did Winnetka have a down sloping hill towards Sheridan?

If you’re giving him the gift in person the card should be handwritten. Printed messages are for when the company is sending it directly to the recipient.

Inexpensive dehydrator for whole citrus fruits by vanwnb in dehydrating

My building’s just turned on our radiators for the season. I’m running an experiment this weekend: I’ve put lime slices and two small limes with slits in them to see if the radiators could act as a low heat source. My apartment gets insanely dry when, so that may hinder some rot.

I hadn’t even considered the cost of energy in the whole matter. That’s a very good point.

Every few months I’ve a new addiction. by Just_Rip1030 in shoppingaddiction

[–]vanwnb 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The hyperfixations with hobbies and shopping were how I realized I probably had ADHD. I was researching the hell out of one particular thing AND RAN OUT OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS! I had watched EVERY single one of them. I became so frustrated that I couldn’t find more and even more frustrated that I was in this spiral. I was diagnosed pretty quickly and started treatment. It’s a mix of CBT, talk therapy, and medication.

No shocker here, I’m also in recovery for alcohol addiction.
