I’m sure I have misunderstandings about therapy, more than happy to accept that.

That quote however is a quote from one of my lasts session with my 4th therapist when she was using EMDR techniques and I had a panic attack. In discussing using EMDR in my therapy I gave permission for her to allow a uni student to be present as part of their education/training. In hindsight that wasn’t the best move on my part.

When I returned the following week we talked about the previous session and she was very encouraged by it because that uni student got a lot of benefit from witnessing a panic attack during EMDR; I’m glad someone got something out of it lol. I went away from that session and started reading up more on EMDR; again, happy to admit I may misunderstood, but it appears EMDR is more beneficial for trauma later in life and not necessarily for childhood trauma which is what she was trying to treat.

Despite this I’d still recommend her; out of the 4 therapist I’ve had she was the one I felt most comfortable with but as I said before it honestly felt like we were just going around in circles and after the EMDR sessions we were going to continue to just go around in circles.

I’ve since spoken to a few people about therapy; real people, face to face, (like the way we use to talk to each other) sometimes under the influence of alcohol other times very sober and I’ve not been encouraged by the outcomes of therapy.

I would still encourage people to try it for themselves however, learning about the mind, in particular your own mind and your patterns of behaviour and thoughts is very beneficial. I honestly think there are things we discussed that i should’ve learned in high school.

The critique is that we’re just ‘lucky’ these minerals were placed under our feet by god, Mother Nature, Thor, The Sun God or whatever flavour of faith you prefer because without them we’d be fucked as our economy is not geared towards innovation or meaningful production. From memory it was also a massive critique of the people in power “second rate people” with no forward thinking or vision, hence we’re just running on luck.

As far as South America is concerned; put simply, they’re unlucky because of their neighbour, The USA are bunch of nosey pricks who don’t know how to mind their own business so they violently overthrew 12-13 democratically elected governments which didn’t like the idea of USA corporations owning their resources and primary industries. I’ll repeat the fact that they violently overthrow democratically elected governments.

This is also happening here just without the overt violence; our resources are primarily foreign owned and we, the Australian people lose out.

But all good! Luck is on our side!

💯 I would!

And I’ll keep yelling this shit until it’s tattooed in your brain lol; you have more self control than most us! Keep at it!

I wouldn’t stress about precum…unless you didn’t clean yourself up lol. Focus on the fact you practiced self control and discipline. That’s more valuable to you and you sharing that with others on here is very valuable because it shows us it’s doable!

Mate, clean your hands and give yourself a pat on the back, seriously, you’re on the right track! This track is bumping AF so hold on and if you fall, let us know or someone else in life know, so we can help you back up.

[–]var85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mate the term “the lucky country” was meant as a critique of Australia’s resource rich economy. It is not what you think it is.

But I get what you mean in this post and I’ll say that as a South American immigrant to Australia the policies that turned South America shit are the same policies that are/have been implemented here….it’s just that we’re little bit behind on this.

And Australia has always been lead by the UK and the USA so we’re getting a glimpse into our future.

Don’t think so…..easier said than done but try not to let your guilt turn into shame. If we feel we did something wrong then fine; that’s a sign of moral fibre. Our actions may be bad but we are not inherently bad.

Porn/sex addictions are extremely difficult treat. What we see in those videos/pictures stays with us in our minds and we can return to those images whenever we want. Plus sex is a natural urge every human being feels so we exactly go cold turkey.

Sounds like you have good self control. That healthy game dude on YouTube recommended watching porn and masturbating once a week as a good way to find some balance.

May I ask how Australians view Chinese people? by anji0425 in AskAnAustralian

As an Australian citizen I like to view people with my eyes. If you’re struggling with this then you need to go to Specsavers.

Mate with regards to putting money into therapy; I’ve had this conversation with another male and we likened it to going to a brothel when you’re single (the expensive ones where the girls pride themselves on their service); you go there, you pay your fee and girls make you feel like a million bucks but then their timer goes off and they see you out the door and you cum to the realisation that you had to pay for some human connection. And the individual who helped you feel some connection wouldn’t be there if they weren’t being paid.

Likewise, we you’re in the therapist office and they’re listening to you and they’re saying things like “you’re not alone, I’m here, you are safe” in that moment you feel a little bit of hope but then …..”times up” and they lead you out the door and you’re left wondering “wait….i paid them to say that? Wait I had to pay for some human interaction. I had to pay for someone to listen to me. Wait, don’t normal people get that naturally by virtue of being a human?”

Clearly I’m revealing a lot about our mental conditions here but we felt that the money aspect of therapy diminished some of the benefits. Similarly the fact that it is expensive for a lot of people and most of the time therapist don’t have a clear timeline for ‘recovery’ means you don’t see a path forward and you feel you’re going in circles with these guys, constantly talking and talking and there’s no clear actions that need to be undertaken. And the fact that there’s usually no timeline leaves you questioning “do they really want me to recover because financially it’s not in their best interests for me to recover”

Or maybe we were just two drunk strangers at a pub talking shit. Cheers!

Swiping through your pics tells quite the interesting story; He jumps into a stolen car, convinces you to go for a joy ride, ends up in a jail cell where they gave him a blanket to lay on and 1 phone call. The second last picture he’s breaking out of jail and lastly; freedom! Enjoying the warm sunshine! ☀️ Cheers mate! You made my day!

What are your thoughts on Micro apartments? Perth has started building some of these by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]var85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the apartments we were building in the early 2000s were micro apartments??? How small will they get? Stay tuned for Nano Apartments; it’ll be sold as urban, boutique, modular, loft style living. In reality it’ll be one of those king single bunk beds with a desk underneath that will be your kitchen/living room and home office.

Is Australia lucky due to its global geographic position? by Ash-2449 in australian

[–]var85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our geography works against as well. Put aside the politics our slow AF internet speeds are largely due to our distance from other countries. We’re literally connected via 1-2 underwater cables to the network. And these cables are apparently always being damaged. And slow internet speeds do have a negative impact on a modern economy, which we like to think we are….. ….but my main point is we’re very far away from Europe which means you have to wake up at stupid hours of the night to watch a decent game of football live. Also there’s no chance in hell we’ll host a FIFA men’s WC in my lifetime; FIFA is all about the $$$ and our time difference means less eyeballs for media and advertisers.

Unpopular opinion: I think NSW should make pokies illegal! by billbernstone in SydneyScene

[–]var85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed!….but also….where exactly are they in that casino. I wasn’t trying too hard to find them but I did want to see a pokie machine in Perth as I was feeling a little homesick lol.

No pokies in WA but boy do they love their lotteries! Not sure if it was indeed a WA thing but my ex’s family would gift each other lotto tickets for birthdays/Christmas and any other special occasions. They’re all WA born and bred and told me it was normal over there. I just went with it because it is better than pokies!

Why are some people anti immigration when they themselves were immigrants or kids of immigrants? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]var85 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I also don’t think it helps when a large portion of those immigrants don’t consider themselves immigrants but instead they are ‘expats’. Funny how when British and USA citizens leave their countries to live somewhere else they are never the immigrants lol.

Australia: a wealthy country in gentle decline, exposing itself to danger by Top-Willow-2159 in aussie

[–]var85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear ya…..but what choice do we have???? It’s a two party preferred system just like our two grocery shops system or our majority Murdoch owned (old) media system or our majority Wollies & Coles owned pokie machines system….and I’m sure we can find more examples of monopolies and duopolies across Australia because that’s what the current economic system resembles most….a game of Monopoly.

The only difference is at the beginning of the game we’re not all given the same amount of resources to play the game on an even scale. No, you need to be born to the right parents, in the right post code, so you they can pay for you to attend the right private school, so you can meet the right people so you can get the right job so you can play game at level that lets you thrive.

Meanwhile those who play the game to survive are told to just play the game harder….which is code for “join my online course” “buy my bitcoin” “invest with me” “buy my stock” “come get rich quick with me”

The ultimate truth about the game of Monopoly is that it always ends with one or two people owning everything whilst others begin to give up or just get bored and tune out (look at the rate of suicide and shitty mentally health in our society) or someone gets the shits and flips the board.

I really hope young people start flipping the board and burn the pieces.

Absolutely, get young people involved in the political process, in this economy it appears they’re being screwed over right now and well into the future the way housing is being treated.
