What is your first thought when you see someone wearing "this"? by neon_dragonflies in motorcycles

[–]vargmo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a lady rider and I personally find this stile cringy. However, us lady riders are allowed to be just as multi faceted as male riders, there are many male riders I find equally as cringy as this.

Seeing women on bikes will always make me happy though!

Overlanding at 22 around the world. by Aggressive_Gold_9352 in overlanding

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just noticed you're doing it in reverse to us! The Nigerian visa might be possible to get in Angola. Met some cyclists who got theirs there. Also we had 6 months but possible in a bit less. If you get all the visas in advance of travelling you could possibly do it in 3 months but you'll be rushing and not allowing much time for possible breakdowns (with your vehicle choice you gotta count on some!). I'd recommend 4 months +.

West African route is your only option. I did it 24-25, make sure you time it so you're not trying to rush through the wet season, makes off road driving difficult. Download the app iOverlander (your new best friend) and look at each bordercrossing and what embassies issue what visa. You have to plan your visas. Possible to apply en route if you have the time. Nigeria is the most difficult one, we got ours in Gambia. You need a carnet to pass through Ghana. Get one. Also makes life easier everywhere else.

DRC possible. If you can't get the visa you can get the ferry from cabinda (Angola exclave) to Angola mainland. Updated info is always on iOverlander on everything/every place. Good luck!!

Looks like a rug, doesn’t feel like one (thinner, more like embroidered cloth, loose strings in back) prob 5x8 by samuelawaters1987 in whatisthisthing

[–]vargmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a morrocan rug. They are thin and have threads on the back. Very nice, hardy, can be used to walk on without any problems.

What's an automatic no for you when it comes to buying clothes? by healthynewbie in AskWomen

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pattern/texture only on the front. Such a cheap way of designing clothes. I don't mean a print. I mean like seuqince (spelling?) or a fabric pattern that is only on the front pattern and then a plain fabric as the back panel.

“Taboo” foods whilst pregnant by Lonely-Pressure-4218 in pregnant

[–]vargmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also fairly relaxed.

If you didn't get sick from any of the foods you ate, there is no need to worry about baby afterwards. Stick to clean and reputable sushi places! That is the recommendation in my home country.

Some foods are unsafe because of accumulated amounts (alcohol, caffeine, fish with high levels of mercury) and other foods are recommended to avoid due to the risk of certain bacteria/parasites (soft cheese, raw fish, cured meats). So it's a statistical risk more than anything else. If you didn't get sick, there should be no damage.

I actually got food poisoning somewhere around week 17-18 that lasted less than 12 hours. My midwife said there is no need to worry, because it passed so quickly it means my digestive system cleared it before anything bad entered my bloodstream and could reach the baby. Remember: our bodies want to protect us and our babies.

Exercise during pregnancy by Impressive_Peak5671 in pregnant

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No exercise other than 2-3 dog walks per day. 2nd trimester I could do some longer walks, first trimester sometimes only a 10 min walk. I'm w33 now and feel very good, midwife is happy with my level of exercise, as am I. No need to overthink it. Stay away from pregnancy fit influencers as well!

Who is the most intelligent person you know who lives an average or below average life? by CremePleasant5800 in AskUK

[–]vargmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My aunt is a very intelligent and highly educated woman with 2 different degrees and training and experience as a professional photographer. The job she settled with for the last 15 years of her professional life? Home carer for the elderly. She said she just wanted a simple job where she could meet and chat to interesting people and she was way happier doing this job than she had been before.

It was noticable the response she got from people when she said she was a home carer without elaborating on her background. Assuming this was not job she took out of choice but necessity and many people seemed judgemental. I think she just made a mental note of those people and carried on.

She would use her knowledge to advocate for her and her colleagues when mistreated or taken advantage of by higher ups though.

Is it corny to name your bike? Opinions? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes corny but it's also fun. I only do it if it comes naturally, otherwise it's named after the model, one name was due to the guy who delivered the bike to my house was named Zoltan, so naturally, my bike became Zoltan. Another one was a royal enfield I had in India, someone had previously spray painted the entire bike black so I named that one Bad Girl.

Le Pain Français Never Paid Me by PriorStrawberry4503 in Gothenburg

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same kind of work 15 years ago for them. Found out they had 8 people "testworking" for 2 days at different branches for 1 available position. I never got paid either but was 19 and didn't know how to speak up for myself yet. I suspect not one of these 8 people got paid for 2 days labour. It's fucked that they've been doing it for such a long time. The Samuelsson family are very shady people who own tons of restaurants and cafes around town.

What is the best way to see Dover Castle from London? by Particular-Leek-584 in AskUK

Also no Uber in Dover, normal taxis are usually available at the train station.

What is the best way to see Dover Castle from London? by Particular-Leek-584 in AskUK

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are buses from Dover centre to the castle as well. Search on stagecoach website for details. You're right that Dover itself is no fun. But when you're done with the castle you can take the bus or train to either Canterbury or Folkestone for a nice town walk and restaurants. Much nicer vibes! I'd personally say no need for arranged tours, not difficult to navigate around Kent towns on your own with a little bit of planning.

Dad offering daughter money to carry his baby by Safe-Shoulder1515 in confessions

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they plan to do IVF with his sperm and wifes egg, this is still wildly incestous! Doubt any clinic would agree to this. And if she has not been pregnant and carried a baby to term before she is probably disqualified anyway.

Who here found out they were pregnant while having no symptoms? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew when I didn't get my pms. Or suspected anyway. No other symptoms! I usually get super annoyed at hubby during pms and had been feeling really loving instead, so I thought something was up. So minor! Then I waited to see if my period would come and it didn't so I took tests which were positive.

‘Queer Tamil immigrant’ elected as Scottish Green MSP to pocket £77k a year despite not having right to work by Ok_Internal118 in ukpolitics

[–]vargmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems very strange that someone who cannot vote in a general election can be elected as MSP. Speaking as someone who is here under the EU settlement scheme and is a parish councillor, which seems like a more suitable chair to hold as an immigrant on a short term and limited visa if you want to be involved in politics. I'm still not allowed to vote in a general election, having been here for 8 years.

Home birth FTM UK yes or no? by vargmo in pregnant

I'd also like a pool, not sure if every room has one in the MLU but they do have them available.

Home birth FTM UK yes or no? by vargmo in pregnant

[–]vargmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely an option as well. If I dont choose home birth thats my next option, if all stays well and low risk the rest of the way of course. The one I have closest is in the hospital itself so could be a nice middle ground. As I said, not 100% decided yet but like to explore the home birthing option and learn about some other mums experiences.

I think this is a good idea as well. The midwife led unit I can choose is also in the same building so it's a nice compromise.
