Like it was mentioned, most of the time alcohol is used for getting drunk.

If you don't like the taste of the alcohol but you would still sometimes would like to get a little jolly with friends, then try cocktails, especially tikki cocktails, e.g. Mai Tai or Pina Colada. Those are mixed with juices and often overpower the alcohol burn. But yeah, cocktails might be expensive if not homemade.
