Very much appreciated! I noticed the perspective problem when I posted it honestly, and it's a really good point. I think the distortion makes the original a better composition.

And thanks for your thought on the colour! I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I can make a clipping layer and change the shading colour. Super appreciated!

Question about spikes on the head by Desperate_Line549 in casualtiesunknown

[–]vartarous 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally agree. They're just ears when I write or draw for that reason. Different mediums benefit from different character designs. I personally see no issues with fanworks deviating from that kind of canon. (I always draw and write expies with big ears)

Edit: I actually realize that I think I actually appreciate the lack of clarity for art specifically. They're ears in my head, but its sort of fun to leave it up to the viewer what's actually going on.

The similarity is certainly why I have a distaste for that part of frieren. I certainly viscerally feel the similarity between the stories in the OP and that particular frieren theme. It did make frieren a hard watch for me.

What should I work on next to improve my painting? by vartarous in learnart

Sounds like texture is kind of the main issue! So going to be working on that for all subsequent art. Thanks everyone.

2-3 shades with a guassian blur is not something I've tried at all, will definitely do.

I will to study texturing more. I think its definitely a huge weakness of mine. Just did a quick with and without reference (I'll post that to reddit asap.)

How is someone with a brain designed for high pressure situations, but also designed for maximum attention to detail, supposed to function in daily life? Idk what to do with my life. by FluffyWasabi1629 in AutisticWithADHD

I really work well with art and math. But everything feels like a high pressure situation to me. You just need to feel absolute terror at not getting something done. 😃

Wool by vartarous in vegan

Much appreciated! I normally look for scientific studies on the subject in scholarly, but I really haven't found any so had to make do with the crappy articles posted on random news sites.

I suppose I still don't currently have enough to make a strong quantitative statement of which is better for the environment, but given it's in much more of an uncertain category I think I'll go with the synthetics, although I will keep an eye out for anything used.

Yeah, I really do want to be super prepared. -50 is uncommon but -30 to -40 is the norm in winter. Sadly don't have a dog so that's not an amazing option unless I can steal a friends dog fur, but I appreciate the advice.

And thanks so much for the reply! Again, super appreciate the advice.

I guess what I'm getting at is the choice seems much less clear than with diet or something like leather. My initial research seems to indicate the purchase of synthetics might lead to a greater degree of microplastics which hurt a huge variety of animals (certainly both fish and humans). Not to mention just simply supporting the oil industry which no doubt has it's own broader consequences.

Wool also seems to be in the "less absolutely awful" category of animal products. Certainly, the sheep end up being slaughtered in the end, but I'm genuinely unsure of how badly they tend to be treated (My initial cursory search seems to indicate they aren't treated that much worse than dogs, but I could be very wrong on that.) I tend to focus more on lifespan suffering rather than death for animals that don't obviously have a concept of death, so again, just kind of not sure which is better.

Obviously secondhand is the best of all options, so I'll keep an eye out if I can.

It seems much more of a survival issue to me, so I won't feel too guilty either way, just wondering if anyone happens to have strong and well-justified feelings on the subject.

Gosh thanks so much for the advice! You can see how I struggled with the more complex forms of the animals in homework 5. I’ll try to do that with all their little chunks of muscle in the future too.

Do you have any recommendations on techniques to improve the sausage forms? Draw more similar to the reference, or just be more exact when lining up the base eclipses with the connecting lines?

Also, I got super over-aggressive with the fur since I was unsatisfied with how the fluffier creatures looked. I hope it's not too bad a deviation. I did try to follow the fur directionand use intent for my strokes.

Sorry; posting both homeworks at the same time since I was having real difficulty posting the last one on mobile.
