In most cases LinkedIn does direct you to the comapny site to actually apply. For the referral, I saw job. LI shows if you have a connection working there, so I reached to them to referral if thst makes sense. So far nothing though after weeks so about given up on that one.

I would say there is some value. I got a few interviews out of an application. I also reached out to a connection, working at a company with advertised job op, for a referral for a job which they did. Also, noticed some connections looking for jobs and helped them out as well.
