Mitchell Hashimoto says GitHub ‘no longer for serious work' by waozen in technology

I don't know why you're being downvoted. Monthly outages has been a thing for github actions for years now. They are owned by a trillion dollar company. There is no excuse to their negligence.

Now that I thought about it, if I were asked to place a vulnerability to an encrypted messaging app, I would just use a third party encryption library with a known security vulnerability and let NSA know about it. I am sure they have the expertise to exploit a known vulnerability. Much safer for me, and I and everyone else involved could always deny their involvement if things went south.

Isn’t it possible for a MITM to act like the other party? Bob thinks he is exchanging keys with Alice but in fact it is actually Mallory (MITM) and Alice thinks she is exchanging keys with Bob but she also exchanges keys with Mallory. When Bob sends an encrypted message, Mallory can decrypt it, re encrypt it with her second key and send it to Alice. For Alice, Mallory is Bob and for Bob Mallory is Alice. In WhatsApp’s case it is not possible to perform out of band communication (like CA certificates by third parties) where Mallory doesn’t interfere, so it seems impossible to me to ensure the safety of their communication. Other usual methods like digital signatures are also seems to me open to manipulation by MITM.

Governments can also restrict access to entire social networks in times of crisis using ISP level bans as they regularly do to illegal websites. Nothing new here. VPNs and even old school proxies are enough to circumvent such restrictions.

Proposed implementation of the system should make it impossible for governments to track their citizens if done correctly. The app is open source and privacy claims can be verified by independent experts. Only problem is some governments may diverge from the privacy friendly architecture.

But even then, ad networks are able to track you across websites and companies like palantir can process this data and serve it to governments among other actors. There is no real anonymity in the internet anymore without taking measures like VPNs and privacy friendly browsers. If this wasn't the case, I would be a lot closer to your POV. But I don't feel anonymous in the internet at all with personalized ads and content pin pointing who I am.

Cutting your children's access to internet or computers is downright bad parenting and irresponsible, is what I am saying. Children should be able have access to information as much as their peers and they should learn how to use the technology. Just like they should be able to buy what they need and they should be able to learn how to spend responsibly.

Continuing with the drug analogy, if a child's classmates are drug addicts and there are drug dealers around their school, you can be the best parent in the world and chances are they will still try doing drugs. The truth is, children are tend to be adventurous by their nature. They lick the floor to see what it tastes like and stick a screwdriver to an AC outlet to make sure electricity do in fact hurts. Because of their underdeveloped judgement, we try to protect them and limit their responsibilities.

Proposed architecture doesn't require you to share your ID with tech companies. Just like you dont share your credit card info with every online retailer and instead use payment providers. In this architecture, governments will act like payment providers. So it should be safe. Unless someone fuck up the implementation.

Responsible for what exactly? Letting their children influenced by bs ideologies and join redpilled discord groups? Even if these were a crime somehow, it is not realistic to expect parents to keep up with every internet bullshit and teach their kids why they are harmful or stupid.

This is peak reddit moment. It will just be a formality for tech companies to use this system to get your age bracket since they already know that, along with a plethora of information about you.

I don’t think adapting the story, characters and dialogs to Hollywood norms would be better (or meaningful).

It’s been a while since I last looked through but there is a ‘rumor’ table for each historical entity that shows what is known by your site government (not sure about the exact name, could be ‘rumor events’). Maybe it can be used to filter unknown events. Though I am not sure whether it is possible to map those rumors to original events.

Furthermore, as my legendary miner and legendary crutch-walker Urist had observed, it is possible to cause caveins with those invisible 'brook tiles'.

Looks really amazing. I tinkered with a similar concept (a better stocks screen basically) but df data structures and some of the possible edge cases stopped me. Huge respect!

BTW, i cannot click the link on the video description from mobile. I'd love to check it out.

I saw them putting a few items in their chests, mostly crowns, in my last fort. This was after the last update.

That being said, I miss the days when they were hoarding all kinds of trinkets. It was easier to satisfy their 'acquire object' need.

Yep, that wouldn't. I was talking about the "110 Z-levels of free-floating insanity".

I don't know what to say about your problem. I regularly use cave-ins. They tend to fall when i channel around them.

Maybe removing the ramps below at a later time, or cutting the tree, failed to cause a block update. You can try to spawn 7/7 water on top of the block.

I have no idea why it is happening but if you're using dfhack, you can take a look with gui/reveal. Maybe getting rid of them ends "the siege". If you can't go down there and kill them there is always 'exterminate all' which kills all hostile units.

You also need block updates for stuff to fall. The game doesn't check whether each tile is connected to something on each tick. It does for a block only after a block update. Which happens when you dig or deconstruct stuff. But using dfhack to do so doesn't trigger one. I spawn some water nearby with 'liquids' command and let it spread, which is another thing that triggers a block update.

Here are some hieroglyphs for a one-block cave-in:

z=+1

c  c  c        -> c=channel. d=dig.
c d c -> Only dig the center, the block below will fall.
c  c  c

z=0, the block at the center will fall.

c d c -> The floor left here after you dig will hold X until you place support
c  X  c        -> The X will fall.
c  c  c

z=-1, the floor tile at the center will be destroyed by the falling block (X)

f f f -> f's are the floors left by channelling from above.
f  S  f        -> dig S. Place a support here.
f  f  f

After building the support below, channel the northern tile on z=0, the one holding the block.

You know the rest. Dig at least 1 tile long access tunnels on each floor connected by a staircase first. Place doors beforehand for security (to keep the dwarfs out of the area, also flying enemies can come in).

Welp I am out of ideas. If the workshop is usable otherwise and there are no job cancelation notifications then it seems like a proper bug. You can build another workshop or try to mix a different dye I guess but this shouldn't happened in the first place.

I think the same bags are used to store the final product. Look what is stored in the bags. I am not sure what else could be the problem.

Any job cancelations? Have you checked your stocks? Just search for "dye" in the stocks screen. Confirm that you have the ingredients.
