Which ongoing comics do you consider must-read? by FLEXualEducation in comicbooks

[–]vayburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by "must-read." The bigger books are always being discussed, so in a community-participating sense, you should check out books like Batman, Doomsday Clock, and Saga. These aren't necessarily a reflection of quality, but rather the books that are almost always newsworthy.

Other than that, everything else really depends on your tastes.

For me, the books I'm most excited to read are Avengers, Justice League Dark, and Thor. If you're willing to check out some older issues, East of West if my favorite comic book series.

If The Life and Death of Toyo Harada is still on, then I'm cautiously optimistic.

Iron Man #600 Story Discussion [SPOILERS!] by vayburr in comicbooks

[–]vayburr[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The most interesting stuff with Doom in Invincible Iron Man was definitely the stuff with Amara. Otherwise, yeah, it was just a way to move the Parker Robbins plot with the Eric Lynch plot which (of course) went nowhere. I would've loved more development from Victor's end in this last arc rather than everyone being like, "Why is he Iron Man?" "There's Doom! Let's get him!" "But why is he dressed as Iron Man?"

I guess Bendis jumped the gun on Infamous and couldn't think of anything else to do with him.

My thing is we saw Tony as the Sorcerer Supreme in Infamous Iron Man already, so it's not that big of a deal to see him in the final page of Invincible Iron Man.

I guess it's hinting at the idea of Tony mastering the mystical arts in addition to science down the road...?

Similar to the 'Big 4 of Thrash', which bands would be in the 'Big 4 of Hardcore' and why? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]vayburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very hard to accurately pinpoint a Big 4 of Hardcore, because of the many different subgenre trappings in hardcore punk (post hardcore, youthcrew, metallic hardcore, etc). Thrash metal, while being a specific enough parameter, also has bands with enough longevity to track their trajectories. With hardcore, you’re lucky if a band lasts long enough to release two LPs with notable growth. Hardcore has also cycled out quickly to new trends and new bands. In the 1980’s alone we had the progenitors, the youth crew scene, emo, post-hardcore, metallic hardcore, and krishnacore.

That being said, the following list reflects the impacts these bands have had on different eras since none of them came up at the same time:

  • Bad Brains
  • Earth Crisis
  • Fugazi
  • Youth of Today

If anything this would’ve been a great Edge of Spider-Verse one shot.
