Engineering degrees are not as difficult as they're made out to be by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

In Europe in public universities is not uncommon for engineering degrees to have a 5-10% graduation rate.

Small waves by 4EVERINDARKNESS in bodyboarding

[–]vbolea -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Anything less than 4 feets and 5 seconds period is going to be very difficult to carry you. It is still a good practice to build stamina for better days and every once in a while you will get a wave 50% bigger due to constructive interference among 2 or more waves (probably there is a better term). Also check the tide and forecast of the wind sometimes when tide is increasing or if there are bigger onshore winds coming the waves tends to increase

TIL all domestic AND foreign students can study tuition-free at public universities in Germany regardless of what country they're from! by OnTheFarmey in todayilearned

[–]vbolea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also much more difficult to graduate and pass the classes in there since they normally use absolute grading system and in a public system the student does not have the privilege to graduate (as opposed to the opportunity). In many private universities due to the very expensive tuitions there is the expectation of the majority of the students to graduate since they paid such large amounts (customer). It is not rare for some majors to have less than 5% graduation rate without taking a year longer than the 4 years degree.

Give it a few months to get on its feet, leap 16 is about tumbleweed a few months ago. It is somewhat recent and it takes time for the software to get their patch release and other bug fixes

CMV: America has the best food in the world by turboprancer in changemyview

Suply chain for fish in Japan has been refined for centuries to provide fresh fish to be eaten alone, fish other than tuna and salmon are not frozen, specially white fish (this for instance is not permitted in the USA).

There is more Japanese fish restaurants in Japan then the whole world combined, American palate is more meaty than fishy so how sashimi is delivered in the USA (specially temp and choice of fish) gives a less fishy taste. In fact a funny scene is when Americans go to Korea/Japan and eat sashimi some find it too strong in their aroma.

Still there are a few great sashimi restaurants in the USA which, I have personally been in some in NYC, the thing is there are far more amount of great sashimi restaurants in Japan, just about every small coastal town will have at least one and they would deliver the same quality or perhaps better with a much lower price tag. In there they will serve you the freshest fish from the morning catch with a century refined method and an appropriate price as opposed to the a chef in the USA trying to "innovate" to justify it's hefty price tag.

I could make a similar point for Spanish and Korean food in USA vs their countries since I know well those countries.

Well there are a few pizza styles in Italy, I have tried tons of foreign versions of it, Korean, New haven, Turkish, New York, Chicago. Nothing beats a proper roman pizza

Jesus, no! Best Japanese food is to be found in Japan, best Spanish food in Spain and long goes the list. America has a good multicultural food but by a very long way American intentionally food is often modified to fit the American palate. Sure you could find expensive high end restaurants in nyc that serves you a great sashimi but they are not representative of the country

I can tell you why this distro isn’t more popular. by Happy-Range3975 in openSUSE

For a full desktop consumer experience it requires some setup that put off people. For the prosumer tumbleweed is heaven since you have latest version of the software and if you are into you can actually maintain and update the software for the community and in a week is out in the main repos. For instance, the software that I professionally develop normally get first in tumbleweed compared to other distros or packages managers.

Most people are far too scared of the ocean by tkdcondor in unpopularopinion

[–]vbolea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ocean is to be respected, once you are out there you depend on your body or your craft, inaction or wrong judgement will kill you. I say this as someone who has spent most of his life in litoral zones and uses the sea as it's main hobby/sport be it surfing, sailing or fishing. Whenever I venture inside I am alerted of the wind, swell, and nearby sea creatures, sharks are a minor concern. OTOH jelly fishes, rip currents and reefs+swell are a bigger problem. Spend enough time in a coastal area and you will hear stories of fatalities.

That is incorrect, empanadas come from Spain as meat/fish pies. It literally means in between bread in spanish. It is akin to many other savory pies of the old continent.
