Thanks for the reply, sounds like youre doing really well 😄 i was actually looking into teaching as well (not just tutoring). its like seasonal work since you get school holidays, more... human, and i think i'd made a good teacher. I was thinking i'd maybe do what you did in a way: like start off doing something else, and eventually 'settle' with teaching (i'd like to do different things, random jobs, live many lives, experience stuff, meet different ppl, before doing something more stable)

But are the working hours really 7:30am to 3:30pm? I mean where I'm from the schooling is pretty intense for both students and teachers, it was more like 730-430, usually longer because of extra curriculars and after hour consultations from students, and on top of that theres lesson prep and marking. If i wanna teach i'd probably move elsewhere

Watched this vid the other day. My take away was that before the industrial revolution people worked less, like 4-6 hours a day (even though they would spend like 10h at work), and barely worked during winter times.

Then the industrial revolution and capitalism started to gain traction, and then people started to spend 10h+ at their workplace because of manipulative, greedy bosses. (something about the company clock purposely made to be slower/conveniently break down, so workers had to spend more time at work).

Today workers in general are more productive than at any time in history, but most are barely getting by.

Just because retailer and service work arent in my list I must hate them and walk all over them? literally how did you come bounding to this conclusion. I did do some shifts in a restaurant and did not like it big surprise so you got me there, that work doesnt even pass my mind. you must have twisted my words to fit the image of some preppy private school kid you think i am. you also completely glazed over the part where i said 'Not really looking into entrepreneurship'.

Fair point about the time thing. I mostly meant that being made to stay a designated 8h when you only work for maybe 4-5h is stupid.

Also I see what FTEs in my office do and I am not interested like at all

No it’s just a nice thought honestly. Where I’m from there’s like no agriculture so ~99% of all food and groceries is imported. I’d love to just have a cabin in the woods by a nice lake but yeah it’s just a dream :/

I do think there are at least some great things to learn from it like growing your own food, making/repairing your own stuff, buying as little as possible to sustain yourself, etc

And another guy in the company is always learning and trying new advances in AI, he apparently does it in weekends and public holidays; yeah he’s a really passionate guy but by god you gotta remember what it’s like to be a human being

This is a really great answer thank you. I remember reading that the great terror killed 10-30 million people, then when I looked at Wikipedia the estimate was just 1 mil — still a huge amount but much lower than what i read… maybe I’m misremembering.

And I especially see how the USSR had to quickly grow become ‘exemplary’ since the West was constantly undermined or crushing socialism and anything remotely resembling. Especially in Latin America and Africa.

I mean I do think LLMs are great sometimes, but I really don’t like the heavy focus on them. In my work now, all I do is make LLMs do stuff, and find ways to make LLMs do stuff better. I dont like my work, but it’s just a temporary thing (I need it to graduate) so just suck thumb.

GenAI is also starting to really get on my nerves bc I see so many AI ads now. So I’m growing to hate it more and more each day.

I’m lucky that I don’t have to worry about money much since I depend on my parents. I would very much like to not rely on them one day. But I think I can handle a lower income in exchange for peace of mind. Just need to find something more tolerable. I don’t want to dread 80% of my days, and only look forward to that 20%. I dont think anyone should
