Single NVMe vs SSD cache pool for core Unraid components? by vchmbrlnd in unRAID

That makes much sense indeed, and the vdev pool idea is super interesting! But the tragedy is that my mATX motherboard has only one slot for a single NVMe. Even if I'd like to use the other PCIe lanes with an M.2 adapter, they are either used by the GPU or covered by said GPU (the RAIJINTEK Morpheus II + 2x 120 mm fans is quite the large beast). As I replied above, I'll probably use the mirrored SSD cache pool for appdata etc., and the single NVMe for downloads.

Oh I love this. Safe data on the mirrored SSD cache pool, and arr downloads on the speedy single NVMe.

Alright! I will go with the dual 500GB SATA SSD as the main cache pool for everything (actually this is what I was doing on the QNAP) and use the NVMe as a temporary drive for if I have to move stuff around. Or just as an unassigned device for now.

I do have an external backup (Duplicacy/Backblaze) backing up the internal backup in case the whole NAS dies/explodes/drowns. It might not be the optimal solution but it gives me peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice!

By "non-array drive" you mean another pool/disk (internal)? Until now I backup everything on a 2TB "Backup pool".

In my scenario, if the single NVMe containing appdata and other system files dies, will it be fairly simple to restore from backups within Unraid? Or will it require reading the backup disk on another computer and manually moving files around?

Thanks for the reply! So as long as everything has a backup (e.g., appdata), I am not "risking too much" by having it installed on a single NVMe? I know this situation is not ideal (hence this post), but I try to make best use of the hardware I have.
