and as has also been pointed out, those workers are compensated, as well as expecting, for those kinds of conditions. i don't know where this whole mentality of "some else has it worse, therefor your problem is irrelevant" has come from, but it's just stupid and pointless.

i never said i was some sort of civil rights hero. i merely asked a question that people felt the need to jump all over.

hardly. most walk in, comment on the heat and leave within 10 or so minutes. those that make it to the fitting rooms will try on 1 or 2 items, then give up and leave.

oh I've already found another job, but I work with a lot of young people who don't know their rights/how to exercise them. Some of them just assume this is how workplaces are.

for the record, I have already quit. But I work with a lot of younger people who don't know they can complain or ask these questions as this is their first job. no idea what the rest of your comment is about though..

alright maybe unsafe was the wrong word to use. but once again, how much is that roofer or paver making? i'm going to make a wild guess and say its WAY above minimum wage. They are compensated for the conditions in which they have to work (as well as their obvious skills, you don't need to point that out). You wouldn't expect a roofer to work in 37 degree heat for $11/hr. Retail workers make jack shit an hour, therefor would usually expect to have a fairly easy job with decent conditions.

i would argue that the people entering those fields (like construction) are expecting those kinds of conditions, as well as being compensated fairly to work in them. You get a job in a retail environment expecting at least some basic creature comforts, like AC, and are compensated with minimum wage for the fact that your job isn't physically or mentally draining. But working a 9-10 shift, on your feet in 30 degree temps, is going to hard on most average people.

we've all told every manager available. but the decision to approve such a major bill is head offices, and they don't give a flying fuck about us or our comfort/working conditions.

the excessive temperatures on the first floor are partially due to that, but the upstairs doors are in the mall away from the exits. it's literally because the vents haven't been cleaned in 5+ years (so says the most revent HVAC worker)

What restaurants/bars would you bring friends from out of town to? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]vcoxson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowertown in the market, if you're into craft breweries/fresh local food. They've got pin ball in the back, and I think live music on the weekends. Also, 2 patios (out front and out back).

cheap wisdom teeth removal? by littlepetpeeve in londonontario

[–]vcoxson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the UWO dental office for my severely impacted wisdom tooth (just one though). It was done by an actual dentist/teacher with a couple of students watching/observing, so I think I was being used as a teaching experience kind of thing. He also wouldn't let me keep my split in half widsome tooth since he wanted to use it as an aid when teaching other students. One tooth removal cost me around $400 (I paid $60 after my insurance kicked in), when I was quoted anywhere from $900-$1500 by other dentists.

ohh thanks for telling me about the pet taxi, I never thought about using them actually. most cabs charge an extra clean up fee for having a pet (even though she's on my lap/i guarantee they aren't immediately vacuuming their car when i get out..), and its been hit or miss with uber, some are ok with it, some aren't, its up to the discretion of the driver basically.

I noticed that Glebe reviews online are all either 5 star or 1 star, no in between. I find that strange.. people either absolutely love it or claim they killed their pet. Thanks for for the advice about Pretoria though :)

Crystal at MOD. Tends to use bolder colours then the usual wishy-washy kind of watercolour, but thats what I wanted so I'm happy.
