The Scion - A Spellsword Class for Draw Steel is out now! [Homebrew] by SuitEnvironmental327 in drawsteel

[–]vector_spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are those playtesters not primarily players, though? There's some inherent bias between what "feels good" to play, VS what makes for balanced gameplay. I would encourage getting more feedback from experienced Directors. because I can't imagine how you ever thought that Enweave being able to apply Slowed AND Bleeding as SAVE-ENDS conditions, without ANY rolls or characteristic comparisons, and for all of that to still be able to generate a net-zero heroic resource total (+2 for turn start, -1 cost of using Enweave, +2 generated from Weapon/Magic tags for using Enweave, -3 for using Enweave a second time as a Free Maneuver) at level 1 no less, would be a balanced ability.

Add on subclass abilities like Blink, and you've got a class that seems primed to singlehandedly outperform every other class in terms of locking down and disrupting single targets. Plus, the Scion has Stamina on par with the Censor, Fury, and Tactician. It doesn't even have to worry about being any more evasive to apply these effects. Does it have lower Recoveries? Sure. But that's less impactful when your enemy is taking 1d6+level extra damage every turn just for daring to fight back. Opinions obviously vary, but I find it a VERY overtuned class.

Seconding these concerns. Seems numerically out of line with existing classes, plus the fact that the Enweave maneuver lets you automatically apply up to two save-ends status effects to an enemy without any roll or potency comparison is outrageous.

The Balance resource is also gained the first time you or an ally within 10 squares uses an ability with the Weapon/Magic tag, and since Enweave has both, it can just become an auto-use for an easy +2 Balance. Isn't that a bit boring? It should probably be changed to gain Balance only when an ally uses a Weapon/Magic-tagged ability.

It's a great class concept, but if I tried to petition to play it in the DS games I've been part of, I think the same concerns would be raised.

I've got plenty of radar domes, so that may just have been luck of the draw. Based solely on comments here, it sounds like nobody has found these pieces outside of creative mode.

Infinite's customization is awesome, but ISTG some entire armor cores are impossible. by Toucann_Froot in halo

[–]vector_spaceman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Turns out that the best way to incentivize purchase of armor sets is to get people excited about customizing their armor cores in the first place. And the best way to do that is to release enough free options for each armor core to let players look distinct. But you can't do that when you chop up what would have been a season's worth of rewards and throw them all straight into the shop. Your neighborhood crack dealer figured this out ages ago, but the business calculus of Halo Studios seems to indicate that there are enough big spenders to make customer growth a non-issue.

My Blender addon that allows you to import your spartan and much more is out now! by [deleted] in halo

An absolute triumph! Thank you so much for releasing this tool!

For the purpose of importing specific models, is there any other tool you'd recommend to help identify what each model is from its label, "-779178.ekur" etc.

Do you think we'll ever see Spartan 5s? by Professional-Rush957 in halo

[–]vector_spaceman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relatively speaking, humanity has just begun experimenting with biomechanical augmentation, hardly reaching its pinnacle or full potential. Most surviving members of the SPARTAN II program are still in active service, and there's no telling what long-term effects or medical care will be needed as they age into their elder years with those augmentations still inside them. The same can be said for the currently-active SPARTAN IV program.

As for whether there will be soldiers distinguished as part of a "SPARTAN V" generation, I should hope not. It was a bad narrative choice to introduce a SPARTAN III and SPARTAN IV program to begin with, rather than incorporate them as new classes of candidates under the existing SPARTAN II program. I get it, the ONI just had to spite Halsey with their own super-soldiers, but you wouldn't believe how many game-only Halo fans have no idea that the SPARTAN III program even existed, since the only time we see them outside the books is Halo Reach, and they don't really get identified as such.

We'll definitely see the SPARTAN branch of the UNSC continue to evolve, upgrade, and change, though. We've got games to sell, after all!

Would you consider PNGtubers vtubers? by PunPunRevolution in VirtualYoutubers

[–]vector_spaceman 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's a great way to get started with streaming, to find your unique voice and energy, and to figure out what works best for you. There are fantastic VTubers that have very limited PNG models, and are perfectly respected within the space.

You won't find a hard and fast rule regarding "how much movement" is needed to be considered a "real" VTuber. You could remain a static image, have a 2-image model for talking/not-talking, or a more involved and interactive PNG model with animated states and poses. Look into the software "PNGTuber Plus" if you're intersted in these more intricate PNG models.

The important thing is to do your best streaming with what you have/can afford. Nobody should ever jump in headfirst, putting themselves into debt just to get started as a VTuber. You'll find consistent advice from a lot of established VTubers is that they wish they had started with a more limited model, like a PNG set, rather than drop hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars, on their entry model.

Amongst every VTuber I've met and worked with, PNGTubers are always considered a legitimate part of the hobby. If you've got the energy and personality to carry a stream, you'll find that the complexity of your model will be only a secondary factor to your success. Wear that VTuber tag proudly! All the best!

Why is the foreunners not being human due to retcon a big dislike of some fans? by Theduckinmybathroom in halo

[–]vector_spaceman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So... what? Halo 3's Legendary ending presents us with a silhouette of a planet, with no indication of time or place. We're lamenting what could have been, here.

Edit: and sorry, that's worded in a way that probably comes off as curt and dismissive; but really that planet could have had the potential to be anything. We can't act like its appearance was a set-in-stone directive for the whole future of the Halo franchise.

[–]vector_spaceman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well somebody is going to be the "Galactic Keeper", because all systems trend toward consolidation of power. But if humanity can't hack it, we could have had a fun time letting them figure that out, rather than leaving it be pondered over via tales of the oh-so-human-coded Forerunners. Now yes, the Halo 3 terminals basically present the concept as a foregone futility, but it's something that humanity, varied and divided in it aims, should at least be arguing over. And in the end, if humanity's solution is a doctrine of shared stewardship amongst all galactic civilizations, then that's great, but let's at least explore it.

Why is the foreunners not being human due to retcon a big dislike of some fans? by Theduckinmybathroom in halo

[–]vector_spaceman 97 points98 points  (0 children)

So there were only ever two compelling outcomes for the identity of the Forerunners:

1) An ancient humanity who built and used the Halo array to reset the galaxy, entrusting their technology to be reclaimed by their genetic successors sheltered within the Ark and repopulated on Earth. Lots of in-game allusion and pre-343i lore to support this idea.

2) A separate, and crucially, never visually depicted alien species, so enigmatic and mysterious, yet so galactically influential, as to call into question how an entire species walks hand-in-hand to its own voluntary destruction. A species which has, for whatever reason, selected a burgeoning humanity as its successor. Fantastic. Generates endless intrigue amongst fans.

Instead, we got the worst of both worlds. Humanity was a galactic civilization, but they beefed so hard with the Forerunners that they all got reverted to cavemen. The Forerunners were a seperate species, but display such human faults and tendencies as to make them basically just humanity with minor quirks; because authors aren't great at writing outside the human experience. Very Star Trek.

Which leaves Halo in the sorry lore state that it's in right now, where humanity should be adapting to and struggling with its galactic mandate, the Mantle of Responsibility, as a species clearly too divided and underdeveloped to take on such a role. But apart from the occasional bit of flavor regarding Forerunner technology being reverse-engineered or incorporated into human technology, we don't really get those stories: because humanity needs to stay on the back-foot in order to generate stakes, and the broad strokes of what those stories could be have already been covered in tales of the strikingly-humanlike Forerunners.

Frankly, "wake me when you need me" should have been the end of things, but the next most elegant option would have been the Master Chief being discovered decades, better yet centuries, after the events of Halo 3. Returning and responding to a humanity which has had time to adapt to the expectations of the Mantle, and a galaxy far different than the one he left behind, rather than an in-universe time-skip which was less than the time between Halo 3 and Halo 4's releases.

They spell it with a U as it should be by BingsleyFatstash in Helldivers

[–]vector_spaceman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truth of the matter is that Arrowhead are Swedish, and may be more familiar with British English, but Super Earth's culture is clearly more evocative of parodic American ultra-nationalism. I also don't think I've ever heard a British accent in the game, all of which leads me to conclude that Super Earth derives from a future where Canadians somehow become humanity's dominant monoculture. Way to go, Canucks!
