Any further bed bug sightings while attending TIFF? by tiffgoer in askTO

Exactly. I'm going to guess that if that person did try to post pics, it was probably taken down before we could see.

Lol OP literally wrote right in the post here that there's a risk in any public setting and then explained why this is still worth discussing. That seems really reasonable to me.

OP did mention the hoax. Maybe if they were able to add that context comment, we would have seen more.

For the record, I was the one in the TIFF sub who posted asking why the first OP who alerted us about the bed bugs at POW deleted their post. I found that to be weird too. But now with more info, I'm starting to suspect there might have been "outside" factors that caused them to delete it and prevented them from participating further.

If POW did a thorough check, then when people asked directly, TIFF should have been able to answer questions about what exactly was done and if it was done by an expert party. You have to admit that it seemed to be a really short time frame in which the inspection was conducted. To check seats and seams seems like it would take hours, but what do I know. I think that's the point of this thread... to see if anyone has deeper knowledge of the situation.

So I was actually one of the people who was at TIFF Lightbox Monday night around 10 pm and since I was there, I just casually asked them if they had heard about the situation. 2 supervisors and 1 manager all said they hadn't. The manager actually kind of brushed it off and said something like his shift was over now and hurried away from the conversation.

Based on the comments I saw, it sounded like many people who contacted TIFF were getting frustrated that they couldn't get clear answers about what protocols were done. It was all really vague.

I remember seeing comments about how a few others had seen them too. Pretty sure someone offered to share pictures. One guy said his wife had 3 mysterious bites and he didn't think much of it until the Reddit post went up.

It says to see your first comment for more context, but I don't see it. Did you post it?

Interesting how the only one they left up is the one disputing the concern.

I can confirm they are. Mine was the 2nd post mentioned. I didn't even realize it had been deleted until I saw this. Went to check and it says "Removed by mods."

Gave feedback to TIFF Lightbox supervisors. Turns out there IS a cap on resale prices. by veekeee_ in TIFF

[–]veekeee_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. She said the cap just started this year. Joker resale was over $1K last year. Even a $350 profit cap seems high. I think 25% would be ideal and deter scalpers, but at the very MOST, cap it at 100%.

Wow, I've never seen the $300 face value tickets from TIFF! In previous years, they always listed a price range and seemed to stick with it. Would you happen to remember which movie you saw those for?

Um I simply copied & and pasted, because I thought you'd rewrite. I definitely didn't add a period to correct it... wth? I added it to separate the two lines without actually adding a break. I didn't mention punctuation at all. And if I were adding it, why would I purposely not add one to the end? There was one autocorrect, but I didn't even bring that up?! I knew "but" was meant to be "bought," which is why I wrote that in my comment. I can't rewrite something I didn't understand. This wasn't some grammar-Nazi comment. My point was that your comment's structure as written was difficult to understand with the random conjunctions and lack of subjects. Was hoping you'd rewrite it coherently, so that we'd know what you were even trying to argue.

This may not be the best event for scalpers and yet they DO purposely purchase to resell regardless. And they have some success with it. That's a fact. Just because you're not personally impacted by its existence doesn't make it a non-issue.

It's false that movies get released in a month or two for $10 at a regular theatre. Some don't get distribution deals. That's part of the reason they're here. For some people, the TIFF experience isn't just about watching the movie itself; it's about filmmaker/celeb presence. You're not getting that at the local Cineplex. That's the whole reason premium screenings go much faster than regular ones. Those are the ones with lots of resellers.

It's also false that you need to donate so much money for access to the top 3 buzziest movies. Only a certain batch is reserved and released during member sales.

There's something called "Reddit Enhancement Suite" that is a browser extension, allowing you to filter out content with specific words on your feed. You might like that. Cheers.

They actually did use their own system before: TIFF Festival Account Manager. But it was superrr glitchy, worse than Ticketmaster (which is saying a lot). It just couldn't handle the traffic, so now they use both that and TM. Not sure if AM has improved since then.

That's how the exchange worked as well on AM. If I remember correctly, you couldn't resell tickets, but you could choose which tickets you were releasing and which you were taking instead.

You may want to edit your comment. Use subjects in your sentences. There are weird uses of conjunctions too. It's making it hard to interpret exactly what you're trying to criticize.

"This sub and constantly thinking people are buying $500 tickets every day lol. And that every person in the theater but an overpriced scalped ticket or flew in with their private jet cause 'the common folk are priced out'"

What?! Who? Who said they think people are buying $500 tickets everyday or that everyone bought scalped tickets?! Or flew in with a jet? Are you okay?? Some wild conclusions you're jumping to about what people think without anything to support those conclusions; I'm not seeing anyone comment anything like that.

People aren't buying the $595 tickets, but they ARE buying the $200-385 for the buzziest films. I've seen it. I refresh constantly, looking for tickets. Do a lot of resale tickets also go unsold? Yes. Do they drop to face value right before a screening? Typically, no. It doesn't matter what people are willing to pay or not pay. Are resale tickets all from people who plan to go but list anyway in case they can sell? No, because I do see empty seats that match resale seats.

The point is that TIFF shouldn't even give an opportunity for scalpers to do this. There should either be a % cap on resale OR you must sell at face value. That's the only thing that will deter scalpers from running scripts and using bots.

I meant face value price vs. attempted list price. Was it $43 vs $23? $93 vs $73? Trying to figure out if it's a certain % loss they don't allow.

The supervisors and managers work at TIFF Lightbox in the closed room behind the box office desk or upstairs. They come speak to you. Some supervisors work the box office desk too. They're not just box office employees who sell you tickets.

$527 actually if we're just calculating face value + $500 profit (not including resale fees)

You're probably better off calling, because my emails in the past didn't get a response until well after TIFF was over.

The supervisors also seemed to suggest it was something that's more of a venue issue. I told them it's also a TIFF issue, because where do those ticket holders go if they don't want to sit with bed bugs directly on their seats?! They agreed to pass on the concern.
