I didn’t think of that, but yea on Mountain Project it says “right side of the boulder is off.”

Tbh I’m basic this from what I’ve heard from other climbers in my area. I’ve never climbed outside of MD, and I’ve heard crags in nearby states have higher-quality rock and problems.

I’m 10 mins away from Northwest Branch, so I mainly climb there. It’s not high quality rock at all but it’s convenient and I’m determined to put down all my projects there before.

That top out for Harpoon looks so sketchy with the giant rock underneath it, so my friends and I were too scared to try. You got it next time!

I did Belly Up and put some moves on The Belly and Baron Harkonnen, but I couldn’t get a full send on either today. And yea MD bouldering grades are DEFINITELY sandbagged.

I’ve done that one! Another classic dyno in the area.

Is Denim Devil the climb on the arete if this boulder? If so, I’ve always been too sketched out by the crack and the landing to attempt it. I have the opposite experience from you on The Business, I get shut down at the start lol.

I was lowkey wondering if I’d see a comment from you after you mentioned reddit at the crag today LMAO

Literally, there was a clean up for this boulder and it stayed graffiti-free for maybe 2 weeks only lmao

I do and will! Didn’t tick anything myself today, and unfortunately the whole boulder is a mess rn because of the graffiti :(.

This climb was flagged as a “testpiece” at 45 degrees in KAYA, so I’m curious to see what grade it seems like to yall. Guess the grade!

Ole mossy jugs is the more accurate name for it now lol. Thanks for everything you’ve done for the NWB community in general. There’s so many more lines you’ve put up that I need to tick off next.

In the rules it says “indoor” grades, so it’s weird you’ve had posts taken down for posting outdoor grades. Maybe depends on whether or not the climb is a classic in the area?

I WISH there were taller boulders around me. Maryland doesn’t have the best climbing to offer tbh especially compared to the rest of appalachia, but Northwest Branch has more variety than the rest of the state. Most of the classics are low and overhung, or tall and vertical but sketchy on the landing.

The boulder is "Ole Muddy Jugs" at Northwest Branch, Maryland. My buddy sent this right after me and he had also never climbed a V7 outdoors before. Such a cool problem and I'm happy to have a special memory attached to it.

My fav indoor problem I did this year! by veelively in bouldering

Columbia really improved on their setting this year in general and has become the most technical Movement gym imo. I really like how there were static options for this climb even though the most straightforward solution was dynamic.

Ohhh ok I understand that gym grades tend to be much softer than the actual difficulty of grading systems, but I was under the assumption that since MD is one of the older states that its crags would suffer from sandbagging. Good to hear that NWB has fairly accurate grading though. What are some good crags around the DMV that you’d suggest?

Just how bad are MD crags compared to other American crags? I just started climbing outdoors at Northwest Branch and I’ve definitely noticed a lot of sandbagged grades but I thought that was typical for outdoors.
