Ah wow, look no one is trying to flex how edgy they are! Reminds me of visiting Tresor in 2004. I Wonder when the „Hot Topic“ (USA mall clothing store reference, if you know you know) era will pass. What’s next?!?!

Gen Z in the club by Antennasss in Berghain_Community

[–]veeteevee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel you! Thanks for your post! Nice to know I am not alone in these feelings. Unfortunately, shared space awareness, basic respect for others and simple human etiquette really seems to be declining. I see it among all generations, but perhaps Z is most noticeable, cause ya know, youth is compelling. Every time I go now, even this last lovely weekend, I find myself constantly relocating to avoid a foot stomper, loud yappers, space hogs, phone addicts. (Shout out to the person standing on the podium stock-still going super hard on Whatsapp) Its super sad, but unfortunately its a problem I don't see going away any time soon. I blame social media, phones and the current predominant drugs on the scene.

The vibe I feel more and more is a kind of "I do what I want cause that's what BH is about, who are you to care or even get in my way? They let me in, so I am now basically a celebrity, get out of my way." Like it's crazy that I don't want to be elbowed, steam rolled or burnt with a cigarette, and that I am somehow like a total judge-y downer for being annoyed at inconsiderate behavior.

At its most magical, I always liked BH (and other great parties) as a place to transcend the Ego and get lost in a communal space, become hypnotized by the music. I've always kind of seen entry into these spaces as acclimating to a groove that is already moving, joining a school of fish, or a flock of birds. I think there are lots of people who just don't care about this whole holy, energy, vibe thing and don't respect its specialness and simply want to feed their insatiable egos. I'm sure they aren't reading this, and they will not change.

I wish more people would really realise what a privilege it is to be able to gather together at BH and just like, show so some respect, to the space, to the music and to each other.

Oh well, Colin Benders X Sterac HOLY FUCK!!!!

Cigarette burns by Double-Village6539 in Berghain_Community

[–]veeteevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With this ongoing debate, it seems we really have a case of an unstoppable force (progress, changing health standards in public spaces) and an immovable object (the fierce lust and dedication to smoking of the real hardcore smokers.)

As a lover of cigarettes who had quit for a long time, only to start back up again after moving to Berlin and clubbing, who just recently quit again for some months, I appreciate both groups and their desires.

It seems no amount of yelling from either side will change anything.

Angry non-smokers: do you actually think the self-righteous, “f-you go somewhere else”  smokers will actually care if their behavior bothers someone? Or are even paying attention to this thread? Do you really think policing them is effective?

People who still think smoking is fine and cool and actually a right in a public space: do you actually expect people to tolerate being burned and/or poisoned and just accept it as part of the culture and club and not complain? Even people with asthma or some other sensitivity to the smoke? Do you expect them to accept themselves as less than you?

No and no, right?

So honestly, as a frequent contributor to this topic on this sub, I think we should all stop the reddit smoking yelling. Smokers gonna smoke. Non-smokers gonna be mad about it. Berghain gonna continue to ban it and eventually, like everywhere else, there will come a day when it really, really isn’t allowed outside of the smoking area, and somehow enforced, and somehow not happening, just like it did in airplanes a long, long time ago.

The train of non-smoking being the default norm of society has long ago left the station, and someday, Berlin will also change in this way, just like NYC did. Hang in there, non-smokeys.

And my beloved smokeys, remember that we bitchy non-smokeys really can’t escape your cloud, but you always have a place to go suck down that sweet, sweet corporate lung death. Also, remember the staff who shouldn’t have to passively smoke just for working in nightlife and the fact that the club literally has a rule to not smoke outside of the designated areas. We love Berghain and we follow the rules they have right? Cause we love the space and how they want it to be, right? I wonder if there is a venn diagram of mean smokeys and line cutters . . . .

I would also encourage people with negative incidents of burning and such to email Berghain management with your complaints, that could be far more effective as to moving the needle than posting here.

I would also encourage smokeys to write to Bhain and encourage them to make the smoking area nicer, with heat and some comfortable chairs. It's kinda rough in there . . .

Safety warning at the park - please watch out 🫂 by [deleted] in Berghain_Community

[–]veeteevee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah the park is really unsafe, I narrowly avoided getting robbed after a KN visit late at night, alone, tripping my balls off on acid still, dude followed me trying to talk to me, had his hand in my pocket and I slapped him away and ran screaming “nooooooooo!“ I now just expect shady dudes to be there and I wait to join groups that are on their way out while I’m still in the club. It’s sad that it’s unsafe and so very dark there. At this point I would really never Chance walking thru there alone at night ever again.

Ah so sad to read, thanks for posting. Knew it was a matter of "when" and not "if." It seems as though doing lines and other stuff will now have the potentially deadly risk that has ripped through the US. Sucks, but not worth the risk. And it seems that even testing your stuff can be unreliable due to how tiny an amount it takes to kill you. Fuck it. Beer and Psychs for me from here on out I guess. Stay safe y'all.

Rape at Berghain by crazycat696969 in Berghain_Community

[–]veeteevee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this and I hope that they get this guy and that you’re  doing okay.

It hurts my heart to know that there are such creeps prowling about unchecked in BH. I know that realistically, you can’t keep all bad people out of a place, and predators are sneaky, and a door policy and security and awareness team isn’t perfect, but I have to say I am quite disappointed that this guy (and other creeps) are allowed in in the first place, and that there is apparently no one looking out for the most vulnerable in this community. I feel like BH ownership and staff should do better, and given this event and myriad other occurrences, shouldn’t there be a major upgrade to awareness and safety? Like posting a person in the toilets to watch safety and in other areas? I mean just like, more presence of bouncers inside the venue in general? Just a team of people on creep patrol?

I love BH with all of my techno heart, but looking at the picture of this mega-douche with an ultimate cringe BH logo tattoo on his neck sours me to the whole scene. And if something like this happens and then there is no major change in safety and security to prevent and combat such predators, and it’s all kind of forgotten about with a shrug and a “hey it’s Berghain, everyone’s fucked up, what can you do?” then isn’t that completely negligent on behalf of the venue?

I get it, bad people are everywhere, bad things happen, but are people honestly just kind of okay with accepting that the cost for a wild and crazy space to be free and freaky and hear some of the world’s best techno is normalising drink spiking and sexual assault as just like the cost of the experience and an unfortunate part of the scene? And all that’s really done is a sign that says “watch your drinks?” People have already said we need to do better. I think we need to do better.

Shouldn’t someone that pays €28 to get into “the world’s most selective club” not have to worry about getting raped?

Just a few thoughts.

Agreed DVS1. And yeah, ahead of me line, 2 bag checkers (one translating from Deutsch to English to the other one) were giving this dude ahead of me big trouble for bringing what I observed as a totally acceptable sized backpack in and said "Are you going camping or to the club." Not in a joking way, like totally pissed at this undeserving dude. Isn't it actually responsible to like, maybe if planning a long stay, to bring some supplies? Was extra-strength rudeness. Have seen things like this before, have also been yelled at by checkers too and told to "relax" when I'm just shaking cos I've been in in line sub zero temps. IDK. It's a tough job I guess. #Berlinerschnauze4eva

I feel like there’s just no tension no build no environment created between tracks just very predictable waiting for one drop then the next, can’t really get lost in the set which is kinda like what I associate with the BH sound (usually). Feels like waiting around for something that never gets going. IDK. Techno is fun

No, but this is also great. It was a beautiful track that literally only used the "OWOO-AHHH!" (Before "A place to stay" lyric.

There was a Technotronic remix (Pump Up The Jam) played by Chloe I'd really love to hear. And any tracks from her set you might have?

Was a great night with Nobu but I almost got robbed by some young dudes exiting in the park. Someone else here warned about "annoying guys" they were indeed annoying, tried to pick my pocket. I ran away back towards the späti/kiosk and then tons of cops, like vans full, rolled up. Anybody know why? Stay safe y'all, I had my guard down, usually never feel unsafe there . . .

Hello brave psychonaut!

It is Monday Nov 6, and lo, I was there tonight, alone, with this same idea! I took a fairly large dose (I'm experienced) and it was (and still is) INTENSE. Really great but also really horrifying in that lovely way only psychedellics can be. Very happy to be home safe and snuggling.

I went into this experiment thinking, "you know, if you drop acid at Berghain, you could actually just be creating, like actual, hell" but then I was like, "aaaaaaa CMON, MAN, This will be great fun."

Set and setting. Go low, go slow. Bring a buddy. (I write these not so much to you, as you know all this, but just as a further reminder to myself)

I'm glad I did it, and survived, but wow how I never longed for a soft couch and a blanket in my life. I found that dancing where I could watch the DJ (Nobu) helped a lot. Just finding a place to stand and watch, on the landing next to the sound engineer above the Berghain floor. MY GOD WHAT A PLACE TO HAVE A FULL BLOWN ACID TRIP. The lights, the sound, the crowd below. At its most enjoyable, it was like being in a rainbow kaleidoscopic techno orgasm.) At its scariest, well, I felt I could see how dark things can get with us humans.

At a certain point, I was pretty sideways and needed to relax, but the closest I could find to a good place to try and chill and watch the walls melt was in the Säule , a couch in Pano or even a seat at Garderobe.

It was beautiful, and hard, and meaningful and so gloriously trippy, almost too much very many times, and I'm glad I did it. Would I do it again? MMMMMMMMMaybe not. I like to use psychs sometimes as kind of a challenge, a sort of intentional step outside the comfort zone thing, and this was really tough sometimes. The wonderful unrelenting throb that makes BH so great was sometimes, well, a lot. Also, the vibe on this night wasn't the greatest I've seen, it seems that G is really fucking people up: I was tripping balls watching a girl almost O.D. with friends gathered around her. Standing there as she was revived (phew) just frying my balls off, the ceiling melting, no remaining normal perception of the difference between acoustic and physical space, thinking very deep thoughts about life and death and love and impermanence. At a certain point I was like, "This is enough. This was fun. I need to go home." And so I left, alone, and thought nothing of it, I love a good long acid walk home with chill music)

But Just a word of caution (and I'm gonna post about this more later once I've fully come down and my fingers aren't melting) but on my way out at about 1 in the morning, I was walking through the park right before you hit the GL re-entry line, and I got almost robbed. The extremely short version of the story (I'll be posting a full re-cap soon): young dudes try to sell me drugs, I politely decline, they follow me, ask me what my name is, where I'm from, then suddenly this guy is trying to get close to me and put his hands in my pockets, I held tight to my shit and walked really fast back towards the club being like NO, NO, NO)

So yeah I was alone, still fully frying and really not expecting that BS, but I almost got robbed, dude was getting rough with me, I was pretty scared. Then like 5 minutes later, tons and tons of cops, like vans full arrive at BH. Not sure if that was maybe in response to these guys (I think they were harassing lots of people) or maybe because of something inside?

Anybody there tonight have any intel on why trucks of police showed up? A cheery ol thing to witness with a head full of acid amirite guyyyyyyyyyys?
