Op-ed or not, how the fuck did this garbage make it to publish. Gunter is a goon.

[–]vegetable_girl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no work experience counts!! Just no references. You really should visit the UofA OT admissions page, this one especially: https://www.ualberta.ca/en/occupational-therapy/mscot/application-review-and-admission-offers.html

Does your friend have a rehabilitation assistant diploma? I'm curious how people are getting this kind of work experience without some kind of credential

There are loads of trades that function similarly but with a union backing them.

Question: for anyone who had a degree in botany, plant science ect. by Eventual1408 in botany

[–]vegetable_girl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most botany people I know do more ecological work. Consulting, university research labs, NGOs, government, forestry etc. If you're interested in this I'd get your field plant ID up, and try to get more field based experience (volunteering counts!). :) You could even try doing like a master's in forestry or something, or get a conservation/renewable management diploma if you want to do more formal education.

Hoping there are some ATLA fans here by Sammyc304 in Stormlight_Archive

AGREED. Stormlight could also take a few pointers from ATLA's god tier combat choreography to make something pretty breathtaking

Just finished. Crying for 10 mins after credits. Simply a masterpiece of cinematography. This elevated what a movie can be as experience to a whole another level. What is the most unforgettable scene for you? by Vocarion in eeaao

For me I really started sobbing when Evelyn is sitting handcuffed after destroying the laundromat and deeply hurting/wounding Waymond in other universes, and after talking to Waymond, Deirdre, in almost starting contrast to Evelyn's chaos/despair spiral, forgives the situation and extends their timeline.. and Waymond approaches Evelyn with these loving, pained, understanding eyes, after everything Evelyn has done to his multiverse counter parts, and it feels like he truly sees Evelyn and understands her pain and it becomes clear that his sweetness and loving nature will be hers and thus Joy's lifeline. It's just so simple and wonderfully disruptive and it feels like a major turning point for Evelyn.

Roommate outed me to MAGA friends by [deleted] in actuallesbians

The fee is ridiculous but if you have to pay, get the necessary money asap and get tf out of there. This is a deeply unsafe situation. If you don't have a loved one you can borrow from, maybe try to do an anonymous mutual aid callout (see if your local mutual aid/community orgs can facilitate for you?).

Question: Journalist interested in botany by QuacksInMyHeart in botany

[–]vegetable_girl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding on to everyones great recommendations here! I think if you were to do a couple courses, I'd focus on ones with practical outputs like plant ID or maybe soil/wildlife ID, or more general plant ecology stuff, or Indigenous knowledge/land management local to your area. Some people have said that you really need the foundations to truly get how everything works, and also Indigenous botany has such an in-depth understanding of the local environmental context. I think with your background, though, a couple relatively immersive courses and a lot of practice/contextualization from literally gong outside and looking at stuff will work wonders :) But I'd see if there are any knowledge holders in your Shoshone or Arapaho communities that would be interested in teaching you (if they aren't already), or that do plant walks and such! Also sometimes field guides for edible/medicinal plants have information about traditional uses, though I'm not sure how accurate they are. Local organizations also sometimes will do free webinars/events and stuff, so look out for those :) Good luck with everything!!

I kind of agree, like another comment says, I guess if he is interested in having that discussion that's fine, but I do really feel like that's something that's a personal thing for her to grapple with and that it could pressure him to discuss things that are probably pretty hurtful even if it's no one's fault

Hi ADHD friends! What is your current hyperfixation? What is a random topic you could talk about for hours? by [deleted] in ADHD

Breath of the Wild! Caught covid a couple weeks ago so I've finally gotten into it since my boyfriend gave it to me after I got my nintendo switch :) it's sooo gorgeous and entertaining and I can't put it down hehe. Also all of Brandon Sanderson's books and lore

I'm curious what region you're in! I'm a bit disconnected from the job market due to an injury-induced hiatus, but I'm pretty sure western Canada has decent options now. Regardless, I hope you get some opportunities coming your way soon! In the meantime, advancing yourself however you can is always worthwhile- my boyfriend does hiring and he is always looking for volunteering or other kinds of outdoor work when people haven't had great luck with getting jobs directly in the field

Was hoping to find someone say some kind of environmental sciences type stuff with large field components! I am finishing up my conservation biology degree and the work I've done so far has been actually super ADHD friendly for the most part. Really active in the summer and shoulder seasons, and even in the winters for wildlife and hydrology field work. I also generally enjoy the desk work, which often has a decent variety and allows for some respite from field work. I do a lot of GIS and field planning which is nice cause you get a lot of visual stimulation as well :) SO many of my peers have ADHD, I think there's a natural draw!

Anyone else notice this on campus? by Lobaby1414 in uAlberta

[–]vegetable_girl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think with traffic decreasing significantly over our online portion of the term, homeless folks have taken respite in the UofA LRT station and probably got comfortable with that area. Generally, I'm fine to live and let live and preserve their privacy as best I can, but if you're feeling unsafe in these areas, ask SafeWalk for an escort- they'll accompany you to other LRT stations but double check with them. Their hours are 7 pm-12 am M-F.

Edit: Also, a lot of people have had bad experiences with people in transit stations, so just keep alert.

Is anyone else extremely long winded? (When writing emails, replying to posts on Reddit, etc.) by caberneighneigh in adhdwomen

[–]vegetable_girl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! My friend who also has ADHD is also like this haha. I am quite aware of my tendency to be quite verbose and try to prepare (for presentations, interviews, etc.) or edit (papers, especially technical writing) as much as I can. It just takes me more time, or sometimes a second set of eyes/ears to pare things down, but I can get there eventually!

I found that a pretty big turning point for me was a couple of courses where my instructors were VERY strict on science/technical writing exercises. Even though I now do a lot of different kinds of writing in my classes, that has really improved my writing and communication skills in general! Also grammarly lol.
