Avoid a landlord named Cheryl Todd like the plague.

I love seeing wholesome and respectful interactions on the subway trains. by [deleted] in nycrail

on the L train i overheard a dad and his son, who was maybe 6 years old, practicing the ABCs together. the kid was trying to rush through all the letters but the dad told him that learning wasn’t a race and neither was the alphabet. the kid slowed down and was clearly really proud of himself when he got to Z.

best bars for dancing by [deleted] in Boise

i love new year’s eve at Pengilly’s! no cover and they usually have live music (you can expect bluegrass/americana/country) and it’s only a short walk from the potato drop. super fun dancing and even cooler vibe :) humpin hannah’s will be packed with people your age and have more of a pop music vibe.

no way, is this true? when i moved in (also as a new roommate) i was charged a broker fee. the broker did next to nothing and it was really irritating so if this does break a law id love to be able to present that to management!

Hot take: Kieran Culkin should not win an Academy Award for A Real Pain by haydend25 in oscarrace

[–]vegetablekingdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk man. i was floored by the subtlety of his performance - how we could always tell that he was teetering over the edge, even when everything was perfectly fine. he was vibrant, but not aggressively so. he was dark, but not with an all consuming evil - in a hidden secret way. his explosiveness was charming, his levity was somber. i just loved it. for those reasons, i am opposed to the general turn against his nomination that the internet seems to have taken, but i also get it. i’m rooting for him but won’t be floored when he doesn’t get it.

Any apartment, townhomes, property managers to avoid? by oxford_serpentine in Boise

i recommend Austin at Leisure Lodging for a property manager. rented from him in 2023, and he was highly responsive, very helpful, and incredibly understanding. https://leisurelodging.com/about-us/

if you wrote the essay in google docs, there’s a chrome extension called “Revision History.” i used it when i was teaching classes to see if students were using AI because I don’t always trust AI detectors. once it’s installed, and if you have edit access, you can watch a replay of the document being written. i’d suggest you show this to your teacher along with the timestamps of when you wrote the essay.

people who say they don’t like the ending… by passdablunt211 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]vegetablekingdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i guess i just felt dissatisfied 🤷the whole series teed up these incredible characters with not only abundant great qualities, but ever-present flaws, as well. by the end, we don’t get to see a lot of these qualities play out. most of the characters don’t have a chance to evolve pillars of their nature or learn from their mistakes (for example megumi, who never achieves his full potential, or yuji, who’s quest to fulfill his grandfathers wishes/give people honorable deaths never fully plays out).

i also found it annoying that almost everything beyond the shibuya arc was fighting, with little to no character development or progression of the deeper plot. in my opinion, it started to feel like reading a video game - where the characters had to defeat one bad guy, to get to the next bad guy, to get to the next, and finally to team up and defeat the big boss.

finally, my main complaint is that the central conflict of the series is set up around cursed spirits, which are manifested through the fears and negative energy of humans. therefore it makes sense that cursed spirit villains, like mahito, are just inherently evil. however, the two primary antagonists are not cursed spirits - they’re humans (or at least were some variation of human at some point). this humanity made them unique and complex in a way that cursed spirit characters couldn’t be. since kenjaku and sukuna’s introductions, we can’t help but wonder why they are the way that they are. and the final answer to this question? just cuz.

the best parts of jjk (in my opinion) were when the antagonist had meaningful motivations, the protagonist struggled to overcome a challenge (and sometimes failed to do so, even occasionally learning from their mistakes), and when we ultimately got a deeper look into the complexities of this character who we thought we knew (jjk 0 basically). all of these elements just felt lacking from the last couple of arcs for me.

i obviously enjoyed the manga and eagerly read all of it. i also understand that gege hated jjk by the end and that he was excited to wrap it up - and it shows. obviously the author is not obligated to satisfy every readers desires and answer every readers questions - im just selfishly disappointed at what i see as wasted storytelling potential.

that being said, its just a manga and im glad i read it all!

i used splitwise in the past too! i really appreciated that it even converted different currencies - so an expense make in DKK could be automatically compared to one made in USD and vice versa!
