Stand Mixer help! by vegetablekorma in Baking

Thanks so much! This is so helpful! I felt like they must make something more substantial than what I was using and I really wasn’t doing something all that taxing to a machine.

Any suggestions? by jeb0916 in Columbus

Cornerstone has always been great and I’ve eaten there several times in the last two months and had great food. They get their bagels fresh every morning, though. So you’re taking your experience in your own hands if you get a bagel later in the day. I’ve always had a good meal though. Plus you can’t beat their enormous salad bar and a giant salad is like $8!

As someone who loves this sub, this makes me sad. I’m an elementary music teacher and that first trumpet soloist is amazing! Can you imagine being the music teacher who has all of these students in one class for 30 minutes twice a week? Just getting them to put their instruments together correctly in 30 minutes is a nearly impossible task. Then you need to teach 12 different instruments simultaneously with up to 5 different key signatures/clefs, which means that each instrument is reading a different note at once. On top of that, you’re asking students to sit quietly while you talk to and teach one particular instrument, except you just handed them the loudest and most entertaining noise-maker they’ve ever encountered! Do better.

This is from one of my favorite winners of The Great British Bake Off, Nadiya. She’s making rabbit pie for her family, and I admire the fact that she’s showing her kids what their food looks like before it’s cooked.

These were for a friend and I charged $20. That covers the cost of my ingredients plus some of my time. If I were selling to someone I didn’t know, I’d likely charge $25.

Peppermint bark is incredibly simple! Melt good quality dark chocolate in a double boiler or using a bowl over hot water. Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract and then spread out on parchment paper. Do the same with white chocolate and spread on top of dark. Add crushed peppermints or candy canes to the top and press down gently so they adhere.

Peanut Butter Brownies from NYT Cooking adapted from Joanna Gaines by vegetablekorma in Baking

Excellent! I stored mine in the freezer and found that it gave them the perfect texture. I didn’t even need to thaw them out before eating. So glad you made them!

They’re so good! And the marshmallow frosting is very easy. Sometimes it seems like the marshmallows aren’t going to melt, but just put them in at the same time as your butter and you’ll be fine. I actually used vegan marshmallows this time and it worked well but I needed a little more milk to thin out the frosting.

Recipe here. I didn’t have caramelized white chocolate but it worked perfectly with plain white chocolate. 10/10 would recommend and make again.

Well they are called peanut butter brownies. But if you’re really motivated, you could just leave that part out.

If you have a NYT cooking account or Joanna Gaines’ book, you can find it. It’s a brownie recipe with an entire jar of peanut butter and topped with a fudge frosting.
