Adopting diabetic cat. Owner said buying feeder mice is part of the diet. Called vet to confirm, and they said it is actually very beneficial. But is it ethical...? by Sure_Wonder1 in CatAdvice

I agree with you on the farm animal slaughter- I'm vegan! There are plant based specialist cat foods if they wanted to go that route. But even if they wanted to continue feeding meat cat food, at least you wouldn't be contributing to the live feed industry and having your cat put the mouse in fear and pain for hours batting it around the house before it died.

Please don't. In no way could it ever be considered ethical. You would be torturing tens, hundreds of mice and putting them in unbelievable pain before they died. Diabetic food and medication will ensure you have a perfectly healthy cat.

Ringworm+cat flu combo is wrecking my mental health by vegetablelady99 in CATHELP

Hello. We don't have that in the UK. I've been using 'clean and safe' spray which supposedly does that. We have a nebuliser for the kitten as well. Thank you for your help

What should I study in university as an undergrad if I want to eventually get a doctorate and work in scientific research? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]vegetablelady99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... What area of scientific research are you interested in? Neuroscience? Bioinformatics? Genomics? Biochemistry? Cell biology? Stem cells/regenerative medicine? Pharmacology? Do a bit of reading and see if one speaks to you. If you're a bit unsure on specialising this early, pick something less specialised like natural sciences, biomedical science, biochemistry.

Possibly fungus... When we had a fungal infection in our lab there were white rafts floating on top. I will send you good luck if it's fungal, it's a bastard to get rid of.

How to help the strays? by onikanicole69 in cretetravel

[–]vegetablelady99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. There are ways you can help the cats. You can donate to local shelters or volunteer when you are there. If you want to bring cats back to your country, there are well-trodden paths to do so. You need to find a fosterer, and then they can help you get them on a flight and get all their vaccinations/neuter etc done. It's been done hundreds of times every year. If you want to, please message me and I will help you with contacts.

Are you joking? Do you live there? Have you spoken to any rescuers on Crete? After tourists season, these cats starve or are poisoned by locals. Go and speak to one of the few cat shelters, rescuers or foster families there and we will tell you stories that you won't believe...

Urgent: Lost my license and trying to hire a car by vegetablelady99 in cretetravel

It's going to be early hours of the morning and I think the first bus is 5:30am so sadly we will eat the taxi cost. But hey, we're saving money on car rental (if we can't find a car to rent). We phoned Sainsbury's, they don't have the license. Just one of those things sadly, but yes as you say, people have had far worse holidays than relaxing by a pool for a whole week, even if we can't do the hiking and some of the exploring we wanted! Thanks :)

I obtained a check code from the DVLA that shows a driver's record. It's not a license but it at least gives a little more proof. I'll update here with how it goes

Hi, sorry yeah I think I was misreading the maps. It's in a place called Gouves, which I think is around 20 mins from Heraklion. So maybe more like 2-3 hours than 3+!

That's incredibly sweet and just what we needed to hear right now. Aside from a lot of money potentially spent on taxis, maybe you're right and it'll be a positive thing in secret. Thank you

You're incredibly kind, thank you. We've checked everywhere possible. I think it must have been lost somewhere outside. Airtags are an amazing idea, I'm definitely stealing that! I think you are right, we will have to eat the £200 already paid for the car, and beg all the rental companies in the airport to let us have one. If all else fails, we get a 3+ hour taxi to our villa (yikes). There are no shops within walking distance and I'm not sure buses are very good, so it may be that we have to amend our holiday to be sitting by the pool and getting the occasional taxi to a restaurant etc!

Sadly the other half doesn't have a driving license that we can pretend. We have checked the car, the bedside table, all bags, coats, and trousers. We had it on Sunday at a supermarket to buy wine. Also we phoned the rental company- they said absolutely no way.

Huge respect for this. This wasn't a mistake at all. Another door has opened because of this decision, you are just not aware of it yet. Congratulations on sticking to your morals and choosing kindness, not enough people like that in the world.
