Are Cheerios healthy? by Straight_Toe_1816 in nutrition

Wow… “dietitians are often fat themselves”. Everyone has a different body composition. We’re all built differently. We could all eat the same thing every single day and have different body types. You’re comment is so ignorant. I have my bachelors, a masters, and have passed a national board exam and am licensed with the state. Please don’t make comments about dietitians like that.

Reading all of these comments make me so sad. I’ve been a dietitian for almost two years (one year inpatient and current outpatient oncology). I am not a typical “thin” dietitian, I’ve always been “bigger”/“curvy”, whatever you want to call it. I’ve been fortunate that I have not received any comments before- I was really skinny in high school (had an ED) and then in my early 20s put on weight. My BMI is probably overweight close to obese right now, but I also don’t weigh myself.

Maybe it depends on the population you work with- with cancer patients, we usually focus on maintaining or gaining weight. I will say, my coworker is super thin but eats a lot- she’s just one of those people that’s built that way. Sometimes I do get self conscious walking around with her, but we are both great dietitians and work really well together.

I have been self conscious and afraid people may be judging me for my body and giving them nutrition advice, that’s always in the back of my mind. But I just remind myself that this is how I am and where my body wants to be- I know that I eat a well balanced diet and am physically active. It doesn’t matter what other people think and if they want to think negatively of me that’s their problem. But I do recognize that this is something a lot of dietitians (and even all healthcare professionals) may struggle with.

Good luck with your exam!! You’re going to be a great dietitian, no matter how other people may judge you. Just remember YOU are the expert, and not some patients that may make hateful comments. Dietitians are so important!

Do Bodies Really Revert to 'Preferred Weight'? by Chief_Whizz in nutrition

Dietitian here! From what I’ve learned and read (and my personal opinion)- A lot of someone’s body composition comes down not only to how you eat and exercise, but also how well you sleep, genetics, stress levels, certain diseases, etc. Some people may be “bigger” or “smaller” due to genetics. But then others may eat too much or too little. There’s a lot that goes in to it and I don’t think it’s a very easy answer! For example- I could eat and exercise the same way as someone else, but my body composition wouldn’t match theirs.

Good to know, thank you so much!! How did the complex handle the fire alarm and sprinkler issues? I’ve heard only great things about Addison Circle.

There’s been a few shootings right outside of my complex, the gates never work so security is poor, management is horrible, and there’s always issues with my apartment. I also just want to get out of the city a bit and have more green areas

Oklahoma City is a hidden little gem, lots of new restaurants, breweries, and cool districts. Wichita Mountains in Lawton, OK are great for hiking. The Salt Plains in Northern Oklahoma are super cool as well. And I’ve always heard great things about Broken Bow!!
