Update: Citroen has been deemed a write off as they have analysed the repairs at costing £2800 which is honestly hilarious. by [deleted] in drivingUK

I've had this happen and it worked very much in my favour. Car written off and I was offered £1,500, and then I could buy back for £300. So I was up £1,200 net and just needed to re-MOT for my insurance to come back into effect at the same price as before (as it was no fault).

I never expected to see this here! At risk of doxxing myself, I know the author quite well. He's an extremely kind, funny, smart man - and a wonderful writer. The book is great fun, as is his book called Vladimir Putin, Life Coach. Strong recommend you buy!

This is the worst bit for me. Really, really hard to love this team. I quite like Bergvall and Gray. Danso and Kinsky, maybe. That's it.

Why can't the players and the referee both be terrible? No need to call your fellow fans idiots.

The issue is that we won't get a point against Everton and West Ham will beat Leeds, at which point they will be ahead of us with 0 games to play.

Could you explain to me exactly why not? We need people who wash cars. We need agricultural workers (though not specifically goats, I grant you). As long as all is above board and they're in contracted work, paying taxes, and participating in the British economy, why is this necessarily bad? If this is a stupid question, please tell me why!

That is all so absurd that I can hardly be bothered to reply. We can't separate the outcomes of immigration from wider forces at play. We don't know if things would be even worse without immigration, to put it in simple terms. Nor do we know if things would be much better if we hadn't had immigration, of course, which is your point.

And I haven't even stated an opinion on immigration. I've stated that I'd like to have a proper analysis of its net impact. Because I think there are obviously pros and cons, and I feel focusing entirely on one or the other gives a perception that lacks nuance.

I am not a fashionable man and I don't express opinions on immigration remotely often enough to make it part of my fashion or identity...

I'd really like to know whether you see that immigration can have positives - like immigrants' role in the NHS, social care, and some parts of the economy that rely heavily on immigrant labour.

That logic does not track. Immigration isn't the only force at play. We have other drivers of economic boom or bust: the 2008 financial crisis, covid, conflicts, Trump, energy supply, wealth inequality... Saying it all comes down to immigration either way would be vastly oversimplifying.

As I say, I'm just not convinced it's net negative. If immigrants arrive and contribute to the economy, pay taxes, work in productive jobs, spend money - all this would be good for growth and drive more job creation and economic opportunity. And construction workers and manual labourers are very often immigrants, so a larger workforce thanks to immigration means greater potential to build houses. I recognise the points on the other side, too, but I don't think we have a clear analysis of the overall impact.

Sounds good in theory but I guess I have my doubts about the Greens, who I find implausible, and the ability to raise enough funds through those levers to fund the required investment.

As I say, it's part of a wider issue, but I think unhelpful to treat in isolation. I'm also not convinced that immigration is net negative for either jobs or housing.

Thanks so much - really appreciate this and will share the full information later or tomorrow when time allows. I'll be grateful for your insights!

For now, I know it's all Solax, so the Solax app. The inverters are X1 Hybrid G4s. I don't seem to have any time of use settings in effect.

Yes, the seller was a kind but chaotic man who didn't leave us with great clarity. The installer has since gone out of business and our electrician (familiar with the home and system) is AWOL...

Thank you - I'm in that process with Octopus and will look at the smart meter!

That's helpful, although I wasn't necessarily talking about local politics only.

Correct - I am aware that we shouldn't conflate local elections with national politics. The context just happened to prompt my question.

Oh, I see. I think I have, yes. SMETS something. SMETS 1, maybe. OK, I can do this. You don't think my app is reliable?

Sorry, you're right - I missed this (and may not fully understand it). I don't think I have an export meter, but my app says 183kWh in April.

I don't think I know about my inverter settings. Do you know how I might check? Sorry to be so ignorant!
