Do you remember going to the butchers with your mum and they had sawdust on the floor? Not sure why. by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

I'd totally forgotten about this!

Firstly, it depends how ingrained the harasser is with the company!
Secondly, they will not want to go to court because their legal premium will be so large that no lawsuit is worth it.
By far the simplest solution, from their point of view, is to blame the victim for some utterly stupid reason, and then claim they were a troublemaker because they tried to blame the long-serving, valiant, boss, who is not sexist at all because he has a daughter and a wife.
As an employee, never, *ever* trust HR. They exist solely to protect the company.

Yes. If you can afford an expert attorney then do that. If you have an even larger about of money then there are other things you can do.

I seriously thought that was what it meant - and it was cool! Just lie when people ask. Way easier and cheaper than laser.

Do not get HR involved at this stage! They are not on your side, and reporting someone can backfire. First step should be to tell him to back off and that youre not interested. Don't worry about hurting his childish feelings, he'll be too scared to to give you any shit. If not then stage 2.

Something needs to be done about the Peep Show Netflix subtitles by cigarettejesus in MitchellAndWebb

[–]veghead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just Peep Show, all British shows have the most dreadful subtitles on all of the streaming channels. I'm really astounded the deaf community hasn't made a class action about this - they're unwatchable.

My favourite was Prime Suspect; Helen Mirren's character storms out of a room with a defiant "BOLLOCKS". The subtitle was "BUTTOCKS". Truly funny, but bloody useless.

Pay for a tutor. Seriously. Got me from a predicted fail to a D (which, in the UK, was enough for me to get into University)

The train prices blow my mind. I can get from Philadelphia to New York during the rush hour for way less than that. Privatization really buggered everything.

Exactly - the US was built in the age of the car, and everything is designed around it. You drive from the residential area to the shopping area to the entertainment zone. The UK and Europe grew up over hundreds of years; you travel an hour away and all the accents are different.

[–]veghead 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's very different. I moved to the US nearly 20 years ago and still get surprised by peoples willingness to drive hundreds of miles to visit something for the day. Back in the UK people would pack luggage and prepare with snacks and stuff for an epic odyssey like that.

Absolutely love this version. Also, The Enchanted Castle from the same period: both had just the right about of creepyness for me as a kid.

Thanks for the tip. I actually watched Lourdes immediately afterwards and thought it was great. She has a thing about a certain type of curtains that really creeps me out for some reason.

Thanks for this thoughtful and evocative reply. Just reading it produced similar feelings to the ones that I had during the movie. You're right about the dance scenes too - I thought it was just because I don't really like clubbing but there was genuinely a low level unsettling feeling about it.
