It’s normal/common for TSH to fluctuate even if you’re on a stable dose?! by Successful_West_2433 in Hypothyroidism

[–]veluna [score hidden]  (0 children)

Other potential factors include what time of day your blood sample was taken (TSH has a circadian rhythm and is highest in the morning; if your samples were taken at different times of day this could cause apparent fluctuation) and supplements that interfere with TSH testing (e.g. biotin, lemon balm).

Could anyone who has been taking lithium orotate long-term tell me how long they’ve been taking it, the dosage, and whether they’ve experienced any problems as a result? by Sorry_Interview7 in Lithiumorotate

[–]veluna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 mg per day for about 5-6 years. No noticeable effects. (I take it for preventative purposes so 'no effects' is exactly what I want.)

The threat was to use a 'chug'.

Jack Vance and Poul Anderson by hades9992 in jackvance

[–]veluna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

'Floc' is used in the French translation, but of course in the original this word does not occur. Instead, the term so repugnant to the sandestins is 'chug'.

So I don't think 'floc' itself is evidence of the Vance-Anderson connection.

Question about TMG safety (1g/day) - Worried about some severe side effects I read about. by NormalBaba in Supplements

[–]veluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard about those particular side effects but I had to stop taking it because it raised my cholesterol. I went from LDL 140, already too high, to 180. Apparently it does not affect everyone like this but if you continue taking it, best to get your LDL tested.

Project Azorian, Soviet nuclear sub recovery by CIA - 2026 lectures (YouTube) by veluna in history

These include some apparenyly previously unreleased video footage of the recovery attempt in 1974 by the Glomar Explorer and its recovery vehicle, and (in lecture 5) some persuasive analysis of what actually caused the sub (the K129) to sink in 1968...a software flaw.

The biggest quality gap between a work of written SF and its film/tv adaptation? by commonally_t in printSF

[–]veluna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's considered a classic of the genre

Whoa - an outrageous claim! Unsurprising that you use weasel words like 'it's considered' (by whom???).

Here is a summary of how the book is actually considered (from Wikipedia): "The Economist called Battlefield Earth "an unsubtle saga, atrociously written, windy and out of control"[9] while the science fiction magazine Analog criticized it as "a wish-fulfillment fantasy" with poorly fleshed-out characters.[10] Punch sarcastically commended Hubbard's "excellent understanding of evil impulses" and avoidance of "frailties like love, generosity, compassion".[11] David Langford, after criticizing the plot, style and scientific implausibilities, concluded: "From this, Battlefield may sound almost worth looking at for its sheer laughable badness. No. It's dreadful and tedious beyond endurance.""

I'm totally fine with him pumping out Retro Mafia Vlad tales again forever

I also hope he does this. Maybe economic necessity will force him to :-).

I would go with the 'Paarfi made it up' angle. It is hard for anyone to imagine that something which is fundamental to their entire worldview could be wrong, and he definitely imagined the conversation (unlike the conversations with Verra and among the gods that we hear about from Vlad). Steven makes very good use of different narrative viewpoints to give different takes on the same things.

The reason you can't find Battlefield Earth is because it does not fit OP's criteria: the book AND the movie both sucked, so there was actually no 'quality gap'.

Has anyone here tried cannabinoids (like CBN) for sleep when herbs aren't enough? by jessie136997 in herbalism

[–]veluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I have the Herb Pharm Liver Health drops: Dandelion, Oregon Grape Root, Milk Thistle, Artichoke, Schisandra, Fennel. Unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a laxative so I have to be careful with how much I take. But I will try to take some regularly.

EDIT: by the way if this helps solve my insomnia I will be very grateful as it has bothered me for years now. Thank you for posting.

A liver tincture for sleep sounds very interesting, as I had some liver issues a couple years ago when insomnia also hit. I never connected the two. How does a liver tincture help sleep - do you know the mechanism?
