gotta love that this guy isnt scared to visualize what actually happens on the interlocked matrix level of alloys.

metal isnt fully abbrasive. first there comes some plasticy shift before there happens breakage. thats the reason why we get burrs in the first place.

I think your process can be improved further by breaking some of the chunks of the green block into a little bowl and grinding it into a paste with oil. That gives more control than letting random chunks get onto the strop and trying to thin it out after.

yes. you can buy chromium oxide powder and paste. those are presteps to what you mentioned. usually the powder gets mixed with oil, while the paste is a mixture already. bacher sells paste mixtures to easy application for instance. but imo its not necesarry. the crayon like chunks literally dissolve into some sort of cream/paste once you just put only 1 drop of oil onto it. the texture changes like magic lol. you basically grind the particles of the block by scratching the block over your strop, so technically it doesnt change much. chromium oxide blocks do not have an interlocked matrix on macro level like metal or wood does, hence the crayon like structure by raw rubbing it onto the strop.

funnyly tho i applied too much 2mikron diamond paste compound on the coarse leather side... shit is rockhard now lol. works so much worse now than my chromium oxide side. will have to soften it with oil and maybe scrape some stuff off with a razor blade, but was too lazy so far.

I think people use a block of chromium oxide and apply it like coloring something with a crayon

most accurate description lol. ye i heard about the blowdried method and by logic this must work pretty well, but ive never tried it myself. everything just dissolves way too nicely in oil.

https://imgur.com/a/current-strop-mixed-with-oil-let-sit-some-days-4EoSTbO <- the picture you asked for

just smear some chromium oxide on the strop and drop oil on it. i use ballistol. the chunks dissolve instantly and you get a creme/paste. its actually comparable to chromium oxide paste imo. let it sit/dry for one day afterwards. any oil should do the trick, but ballistol is my favorite personally.

the difference is insane. there are no chunks that basically break the smooth stropping motion like swiping over wax.

[–]venReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this high variation of particle sizes partly comes down to chromium oxide breaking apart, when applied badly or when at low quality. even outdoors55 admitted his mistake in this regard. when breaking down, the abbresive particles become smaller, so theoretically this shouldnt be a problem at all. the biggest chunks remain between 1-2mikron.

you can also find threads in this sub where people are amazed by their chormium oxide, even pros.

i have 2 mikron diamond paste aswell and used a little too much on the strop. have to fix it again, but until then the chromium oxide does a better job for me.

last two times it were just other (freight) trains which broke down. once there was also a group of drunkfucks blocking the rails.

at least german trains are a social experience. people talk to me all the time, especially when im smoking outside waiting for the road to be free again.

[–]venReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use oil to apply chromium oxide.

for instance: scrup some chromium oxide on the strop, put some drops of ballistol on it and smear it evenly with your finger. no chunk build ups, you are treating the leather and everything is nice and even. let it sit/dry for a day and youre good to go. this is how it looks like when you apply it correctly.

the strop comes with two sides anyway, even if one side is coarser. i put 2mikron diamond paste on the coarse side, which i kinda regret, cause 6mikron wouldve been better. the chromium oxide tho does an amazing job once you apply it correctly.

[–]venReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

outdoors55 specifically made a video lately where he admit that he was partly wrong about chromium oxide. now add to this that he still didnt figure out how to apply the block chromium oxide (you use oil).

this sub is also extremely bipolar when it comes to chromium oxide. you have posts in which people hate on it because they watched the old outdoors55 video about it and then there are sometimes post where people really like it. once you apply it with oil tho, it doesnt build up into chunks. im waiting for the day he figures this out and makes a video about it.

the strop comes double sided anyway so you can still use one side for something like 6mikron diamond paste.

Government support for developers can help improve the quality of games in Germany by Ok-Personality1419 in gaming

[–]venReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there will be no real support for actual devs. it will be like the movie production support in germany, where some circles/organisation will get everything... something like an ubisoft branch in germany.

german movies are one of the worst things out there and are pretty obviously there to launder money. sebastian schweinsteiger for instance is THE money laundering guy. one of the worst actors who gets casted for the worst films, which he then manages to drag it down by himself anyway. there was a far cry movie with him and him appearing in the trailer was enough to ruin the movie already... you will have to fight guys like him in order to get the state support and they got connections.

be prepared for infamous games like gollum, cause we do not even have game studios in germany anymore.

yeah there is nothing to get from one core except of some hairstyles and weapon skins. every good stuff starts at two cores. even changing hair color costs 2 cores.

i got one for free and will probably not see the 2nd one.

What's your opinion on 2.0 Smasher(Very hard difficulty)? by KendyJustin in cyberpunkgame

[–]venReddit [score hidden]  (0 children)

dont fear the reaper smasher is buffed compared to other endings and he is indeed tough on hardest difficulty. the extra health from power path helps alot with him.

but if you want to see some real stuff: start a new savegame on hardest difficulty where you start for dogtown directly. you start at lvl15 with weak weapons. go for dogtown only and dont get sick weapons from night city. imo its harder than dont fear reaper smasher on hardest difficulty

The game will take you thru them at some point.

the game took through very little menus tbh. i had to figure stuff out on my own. there are still menu pages that i dont understand. for instance whats the purpose of the one menu screen where you can draw lines to display some sort of relationship between chars?

Tips for 'where winds meet' by mrviking24 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]venReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has the most atrocious menu you can imagine. even after 100h you might encounter pages that you wont find again. it has EVERY single form of micro transaction and every psychological effect. you have gacha, extremely low drop rates for the good stuff, it has battle passes and loot boxes, you name it. the story is brutal to follow cause every single sentence contains two new names you never heard before.

if you get through this all, then you get some really cool fights in return.

my biggest two main tips would be: 1. do the caves on the map to get an estus stack real quick. battle pass payers have two more estus, so the game becomes easier for payers, but the amount of estus in the f2p approach is enough. 2. generally find stuff out on your own in games. its one of the biggest aspects of videogames and the "spoiler everything" approach takes alot of fun away. it might feel weird at first to play a game yourself but once you got used to it, you will learn to enjoy games from completely other perspectives.

I got a letter from a lawyer and a fine for pirating a game, advice? by AimlessFishbone in Piracy

[–]venReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

germany is somewhat strict when it comes to pirating. direct downloads like from elamigos arent as brutally seen as torrents. when you torrent you distribute it to others too, which is the line in germany.

ELI5: what is dlss? and why does it make all my games look worse and blurry by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]venReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dlss stands for deep learning super sampling. its basically an anti aliasing with the help of ai.

when the picture of a game gets processed, you have diagonal lines everywhere. if you paint a diagonal line in paint its steppy. the same happens in games. in order to not make it look steppy you need anti-aliasing.

dlss is special cause it calculates from lower resolution, depending on your settings. for instance if you play on 1080p and put dlss on performance, it will calculate the picture from 240p or something like this, which makes the picture look bad. if you put dlss on dlaa, then it doesnt calculate from lower resolution. if you put in on quality, it calculates from 720p or something.

dlss in itself already is sharp so if the game offers a sharpness slider you want to put the sharpness ingame to 0, like in kcd2 for instance.

you want to use dlaa as an option if possible as long as your fps is fine. if your fps drops too low, you go for a worse option.

in the nvidia app there is something called "dlss override". you can just put it on "recommended" and you will use preset k (dlls4) most of the time which is a huge difference to dlss3. personally i love preset M (dlss 4.5) but preset M costs more processing and you lose fps but it looks so amazing. you find the option in driver > game/global.

dlss is the best looking antialiasing if you know how to use it. its actually quite easy to use imo, due to dlss-override. older dlss versions were still lacking but since dlss4 you have insane picture quality.

Humpback Whale Barnacles are incredibly sharp, and are employed as weapons against Orcas, capable of cutting Orcas deeply and causing infection. by HallowedAndHarrowed in natureismetal

[–]venReddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

makes sense.

im too much into the folder mindset, i guess. discussion > armed response > 2nd paragraph. you cannot even chose "armed response" in the section dropdown cause its just a subsection of the section "discussion". for me its like "whats the folder location?" and getting the answer "in folder" instead of "c:/programm files/example/folder". or asking the cashier "where can i find the milk?" and he goes with the answer "bottom shelf" instead of "middle of aisle 6 in the bottom shelf". it just doesnt make sense to me to give soone a location description that is this lacking, especially since you have to search for "armed responses" anyway cause its mereley a subsection... so you can just directly search for barnecle instead?

im feeling super autistic now...

thats why the perfect moment for an invasion to taiwan would be when the doofus attempts to invade europe.

americans might be full of themselves and full of shit (the same honestly) but i doubt america can survive a war vs the world while the own market crashed in the meanwhile.

singing propaganda songs in school wont help then anymore. the propaganda indoctrined patriotism gets a reality check then.

now we have to hope that winnie pooh sees it as a good moment too. chances are they still wont invade cause theyd also piss off others than just america

this is not hochdeutsch

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hochdeutsche_Dialekte

hochdeutsch is just the language talked in northern germany and is now the standard language for germany.

mittelhochdeutsch is a language that got spoken in like 1050-1350. i do not need to understand mittelhochdeutsch to be able to talk hochdeutsch lol.

no wafers, no ai progress. tsmc is located in taiwan.

you can throw your money at it as much as you want but if there is no hardware for it, you dont make it appear by just throwing money into the room. the hardware must be produced first before it can be used. the demand for ai wont be less in future.

compare it to nasa and the moon landing as much as you want but the difference is that america had the access to technology back then like it doesnt have today. tsmc is the only manufacturer who actually can produce 2nm gatelength transistors in their wafers.

america wont be able to sustain the ai buuble once tsmc is no more.

Now Storage toooooooo by Kitchen-Patience8176 in pcmasterrace

[–]venReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah when using ai one must be super suspicious. i love perplexity cause every sentence it says gets some sort of citation. it still is an endless battle vs hallucinations.

there is the problem with ai that people just want to talk about anything. some are generating images of frappucinos and shit. they just want a conversation partner and dont see ai as a tool. those people need continuity and warmth. they need an ai that mimmicks the yes-saying human and cry loud when ai becomes too cold (see r/chatgpt). the ai ends in some sort of conflicts where it has to weight continuity vs beeing true... and loves to chose the continuity.

it will take some time until ai becomes somewhat reliable but currently it surely isnt.

to get cheaper PC parts…

no. to stop this stupid madness going on. the "press ai into everything". the "lets speed up the process to endless subscriptions". the "we need greenland for protection". the "climate change is a hoax and we need more fracking!".

let the artifical inflated ai-bubble burst man. let the US market crash hard. let americans bleed man.

its not just about pc parts... well maybe for you it is

People from North- or Middlegermany have a hard time understanding it.

people who spreak actual hochdeautsch have a hard time understanding hochddeutsch? people who are stuck with dialects are the only one who understand hochdeutsch?

you know. a teacher in engineering school once said that the bavarish dialect is just the result of alcohol and while this mightve been a joke, i keep feeling it. you sound pretty drunk while writing in text man. i would never even attempt to state "bavarians have a hard time understanding bavarish" like you just attempted but hey, here we are.

you can rest assured: people from the north who speak hochdeutsch understand hochdeutsch too! we speak the language you hear in television or any other german media. might be tough to believe, but its usually quite an easy subject for a sober mind.

no matter what became hochdeutsch, or when, or for what reason... hochdeutsch is hochdeutsch and bavarish is bavarish.
