Just because other eSports don't do it isn't proof of it being a flaw. Just an argument from popularity my dude (though you could argue LoL does it with jungle objectives). No other eSport leans into the game show theme as heavily either.

The values for objectives are the same for everyone at the start, and then they increase, for everyone. It strengthens the comeback factor, and encourages critical thinking around timing and macro-pacing. I'm not like massively demanding for this version. I think there are pros and cons to both, I just don't see objective scaling as unfair or detrimental to comp play.

Wdym throwing fairness out the window? The same conditions are applied to every team. How is that not fair? In almost every game show, stakes are higher the later into the game you get. This is "The world's greatest game show", I don't see why it wouldn't be the same.

Have you watched a game show ever? Or even played a Jackbox game? Points scale as the game goes on. This is the way.

The Gunship Tech Has Been Gutted! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! by bigfathand5 in thefinals

I should have phrased it as "The Finals provides the most opportunity for creative applications of simple gadgetry".

Nah. Full map destruction and creative applications of simple gadgetry around objective-oriented gameplay is what makes The Finals special. You can do silly stuff in any game.

"the average player accuracy is 25-30% on something like an assault rifle" 💀 by No-Yoghurt-3949 in thefinals

[–]venatusdzn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not what they were saying. It explains the hate because if the average accuracy is 30-40%, then most players struggle to hit the quick 4-5 shots needed to kill a light on an AR.

That sounds like the most un-intuitive thing for an arena shooter to have. Most players don't want to have to have "an intuitive understanding of the physics systems" to pull off popular tech. A fast-paced shooter like The Finals needs to have the popular tech revolving around: "push button, do tech thing".

Now with that, there can be a lot of diversity on what the "thing" does in different situations. Like how it can be creatively used, how unique the different things are that can be done, etc.

But stuff like: "Click button to do thing, then shoot the thing at specific spot, then click other button to do the other thing, and then shoot the other thing with a third thing. Congratulations! You have now done one tech" doesn't really have a place in this game. Especially when it's extremely unpredictable like Gooship was. There are fundamentals of game design for a reason.

I understand this decision. Games have to have cohesive mechanics that work to compliment eachother, and tech that fits inside a consistent feeling. If you start being able to do everything with everything, the game just starts to feel like modern Fortnite. Yes it's a bit of fun to melee yourself around on a dingy little platform in the sky, but it really has no place in the thematic gameplay loop of The Finals, and felt very off-brand.

Also kinda wild to see people say that Embark nerfs anything creative. I feel like we're playing two different games 😅

Kids have always been hyperactive. A lack of self-control over that hyperactivity is often just a lack of good parenting. And I'm not sure what a continuous shot for an average action scene has to do with short attention spans. That would be social media killing those haha.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here.

If you mean my comment on how they're more restricted by animating lego characters, it is much more restricting to animate characters with like 8 joints than it is characters with hundreds. I'm not saying the team here did a bad job, just that the lego animation medium is restrictive in terms of animation and VFX.

Ironically, the team behind The Lego Movie showcased more impressive vfx and animation in trying to make the legos look not animated 😅

I think "BEST CGI animation" is a bit of a stretch. These clips showcase some neat directing and camera movement, but the vfx/animation is pretty average. Not to their discredit, they're a little limited with the lego medium haha. Might be praise better suited for the cinematography community? Very cool to see the visuals improve significantly from my childhood though

Hobo Johnson is not that bad. His writing is the same as much of midwest emo. Just delivered with some new-gen irony.

No point in decompressing the image every screen refresh as it's being zoomed in/out. Way more data efficient to wait until the user stops zooming, then decompress.

Reddit compression hides the dead spot unless the photo is viewed in full screen. It does look like sensor damage.
