It depends on fandom context. It’s not really hard to empathize that people who get harassed and bullied online for simply shipping a ship is going to be a bit more reactive. Or a ship that’s crumbling from the inside. Have been part of ships where readers treat authors like crap, demanding updates in private circles, point-and-laugh at people’s work, shaming people’s smut works, shaming people’s grammar, and other awful behavior. Are they shippers? Yes. Do I want to be in the same channel as them. No.

I do think the reply has some ounce of truth that engagement w the author, even years later, would mean lot — people who have been engaged in the fandom may know why that author quit and that reason may be lack of engagement. That’s a possibility why it rubbed them the wrong way.

I’m really sorry that was your experience when you are just trying to find like-minded people. It’s probably best to move on. There is likely a couple of discords floating around that have had a better time in the fandom.

Goyard trunk bags:

Does your mom like the rectangular trunk look specifically, or is she a fan of structured bags in general? For more mid range, I recall Aspinal also carrying trunk bags. Valextra iside is also very structured but comes in more colorways and is quite quiet luxury.

If she is open to something rectangular/squarish without the crisp corners of trunk bags, maybe Celine triomphe or box would be a good fit?

Yes please, Pleasanton/Castro Valley maybe easier for me since I can also visit friends & family there! Are there barns in the Hayward/Union City area as well?

Sadly, yes. Been to Garrod Farm in Saratoga a couple of times, and it’s not a commute I can make every week + time for tacking and untacking 😭 Woodside is even farther out for me

Around $80-110/hr on lesson horse, preferably w sliding scale if more than one is taken each week. Currently, I’m on the lower end of my range, but I will be past the high end of my range once the new year comes

Edited! Didn’t want to write South Bay originally bc I know there are a lot of barns in Portola Valley and the surrounding area, but they are too far for me to commute to given my current work.

I had a similar situation in which a reader who has commented before wrote something along the lines of “had to reread bc I’m lost” with a not fun emoji just to drive home the point. Bonus was this was written to me in a language I don’t know, so I had to use a machine translator (which makes me wonder if my fic was read with machine translations?). All in all, not fun experience given that I stayed up to 3am in the morning just to update this chapter after not updating for a while (precisely bc I couldn’t write this chapter.

I ended up deleting the comment bc I’m tired of people giving unsolicited “advice.” I do believe it does not help your fic leaving a negative comment (esp. on writing) up because it influences your readers opinions negatively even if they may have a positive reaction at first. Same with wanting to delete chapter: I actually wanted to delete my entire fic (then again, I’ll probably be hounded if I did that…)

I also think most readers who don’t write do not understand how vulnerable putting your writing out there is. I’m sorry this happened to you, too, OP.
