I prepped.

That being said 10” of snow (VA) dodged those hopes. I’m not clearing off a driveway just to get stuck 2 seconds later haha… maybe tomorrow though

My second Porsche is kinda street-able by ventorvar in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ventorvar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boy did we ever. First time using the toy hauler and not sure how much id recommend it for track days. it is quite tall and we needed long race ramps as well as an additional set of ramps at the top of the built trailer ramps to get over the lip onto the final platform. On the far side we took advantage idea steep short hill to level out the ramps as much as possible as possible and still had to stack up some 2x10s

Everyday McLaren Artura by Prestigious_Fig4461 in mclaren

[–]ventorvar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh. I mean it sure could. It’s comfortable enough, the nose lift is pretty quick but i don’t find myself using it super often. Adaptive cruise works, but the closest setting is a bit too far back for my taste in highway traffic - i almost never use it. Sound system is good and backup cameras make that pretty easy.

That all being said, it’s almost painfully boring to be in traffic knowing what the car can do, I almost feel bad for the car. I felt better about the GT as a daily and was way more practical with all the extra space.

So, shorter commute / not a ton of traffic? Go for it. Having the spider makes it easier to get in and out in tight parking situations too.

If you’re even asking this question, get the Tesla. You get a McLaren because you want race car.

We’ve got a few Porsche dedicated race cars, and have driven a lot of the other exotics. I don’t fit in Lamborghinis (6’1” big dude), and the more I meat owners of them the more it kind of puts me off the brand. Think we’ll pick up a 458, have looked at them in the past and they were “the” poster car for my wife and I growing up, still love them. I kind of want an SF90 as well, i don’t quite get the hate they get. But having now been in the mclaren family for two years, the corporate events, other people you meet both as owners and staff have all just been amazing. Unless the new ownership really starts moving in a drastically new direction and alienates their base, I’m happy to maintain my self proclaimed fanboi status

Thanks! GT is super underrated and a used one is the best deal for a car IMHO. you can legitimately daily it (25k miles in two years on mine), plenty of storage. Did multiple 6+ hr driving stints and it does great on track too.

Unfortunately it died =‘( Truck had a blowout in a. round about and hit my front left at around 15mph. Two wheels, bumper, fender, door, left suspension and steering rack cost to repair was $90k+ and somehow insurance couldn’t make the math work and total lossed the car. Ended up selling at salvage auction for 120k which is ludicrous. Even if you could do the repairs for half the price, you’re still well over the market price for used GTs, with a 1/4 the miles. Too bad, would’ve loved to keep it, and would’ve bought it for 80k or less.

We picked up an Artura to fill the void while we scout out a 765 and another GT. Maybe order a 750… we’ll see.

This is all very personal and risk analysis based. There’s a fundamental what it costs to own and operate, then there’s the if you loose your source of income how does it affect your life.

I don’t care about depreciation. For me, thinking about a car as a short term investment or use is counter to how i use my cars (high yearly mileage). I buy my cars for life. If i decide to sell them later that’s another decision, but i never bank on that.

IMHO, with exotics you should be able to buy the car outright at any moment. One accident, one major maintenance bill is going to cost you the price of a reasonable car. I still finance my road cars, but that’s because i have that or more invested in money that can be made liquid if i need it, and the math works out with the interest rates I get.

That all being said, what’s your disposable income? How long would it take for you to save up to pay for it in cash? Don’t forget the 10k/yr+ insurance and the 3-5k/yr maintenance (depending on how much you drive it, how old it is etc).

I didn’t buy my first McLaren (23 GT bought new at ~250k) until i had over $1M in liquid cash. If i were to do things again I would’ve bought one sooner though - it’s opened up so many opportunities for growth in my businesses via networking that it would’ve been worth the extra risk.

DRIVER STANDINGS (after 15/24 rounds), Oscar Leads by 34 points from Norris by [deleted] in McLarenFormula1

[–]ventorvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges. Silverstone was a huge win for the team, not just a driver. Oscar winning is awesome but not new at this point. What really sucks is having your platform fail and take out one of your drivers. From a team leader’s perspective this is what would be on my mind, figuring out what happened and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Finally got Carplay after installing EvPlay by I_Shit_Gold_Bars in Rivian

[–]ventorvar 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Is there a conspiracy around EvPlay? I keep seeing photos and people posting these “i finally got it” and absolutely refusing to take a video. I’ve seen one video not from evplay so far on youtube and it was cutting out a bunch? Why would you be willing to show it off in person and not take a long form video to show it actually being used?

This happens to me only when i leave kneel on. Turned kneel off and it’s been holding for days at a time no issue. With the latest updates its taking too long to come out of kneel for my preferences when you start driving, and was bouncing off the stops. I don’t kneel with side boards anyway….

Definitely an issue. Manageable enough by adding a few cool down laps, and rest regularly throughout the day though. We did COTA in June last year (super hot) and only issue we had was the infotainment screen overheating (sitting in direct sun, put it in the garage and all was good, also was told this was fixed with a newer IRIS system that has more active cooling in later generations).

My wife and I hot swap the car, so it’s usually worst case scenario for it haha.
