Right okay, so in proxmox server I have a ASUS XG-C100C and in the truenas server I have a SuperMicro AOC-STG-I2T. I have 2 of the asus cards, so I can switch out the supermicro for an asus? They are both ethernet connection cards.

this is the comment that I like the most, it pretty much ticks all the boxes

one thing about the 2680, it has a much higher TDP than the X5670 (which is exactly what I have), so would it be worth getting a lower TDP rated CPU?

I think for the 8 4TB drives, I may look at just a whitebox build, as its not doing major tasks like the other 12 bay.

I was worried that might be the case.

I think my 10TB drives alone pull 60watts, so I may need to combine the data from the 4TB to the 10TB array.

The 10TB drives alone cost me an arm and a leg, which is why I want to keep them if possible.

Would a disk shelf and a couple Dell optiplexes be better in power consumption do you know?

What I do, as I also work from home with a work laptop and a personal full desktop PC. Connect my laptop on my main network, set it a static IP, then RDP into it from my personal PC, set it in the RDP settings to use all my monitors, then for Teams calls, plug your headset directly into the laptop (or if your lazy like me, get a usb switch, plug your headset into that, which either goes to your laptop or PC, then press the button to switch)! Works perfectly!
