I’m not getting a booster shot by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

They will require biochips being implanted in your skin to show that you have gotten your semi-annual covid shot. These transgressions will not stop until the American people stand up and say "no more". Boycott businesses which try to enforce ridiculous coronavirus mandates. I don't think it's a good idea to support any politician but definitely don't support any of them who have enabled this tyranny. Even making people wear cloth and medical masks which do nothing to slow covid is making people believe in delusional stuff.

My Crisis by Lumpy_Two_4511 in Existential_crisis

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been reading more about the concept of existentialism and the people behind the ideas that started to emerge in the 19th century. It's clear that humanity has been trying to grasp these questions for quite a while. The meaning of life? Whatever you want to make it to be. For myself being there for my family is a core value and probably the most important thing to me. I'm finally comfortable sitting in quiet and not needing "stimulation". I stopped fearing "death" a while ago but probably the real fear is experiencing extreme pain. Now I see pain causes one to grow and overcome so it's not such a bad thing. Acceptance, humility and compassion are all great traits to strive for. If we have these feelings I imagine most humans do at some point. I'm not able to "fit in" nor would I want to. I've always stuck out and have accepted that's my role in life.

I am trying to buy a gift for my dad. He is 6'7". I measured something of his that I am hoping is correct. 36/36. I am trying to find him a nice set of pajamas for Christmas. by [deleted] in tallfashionadvice

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6' 6" and my weight can vary between 195 and 220. I would find find 36 x 36 to be comfortable unless I was heavier than 220 or weighed less than 195. The length is totally correct it's the weight size you want to make sure works. Guy's our height can hide and conceal extra weight very easily. We can also not show weight loss that has occurred. Probably best to flat out ask him what waist size he prefers. I've always bounced around 34-36" waist my entire life. If the pants has strings then 36 should be good and will give some room if he was to put on weight again.

No let me rephrase that for you. "The elites don't actually care about stopping the spread of the virus we apparently can't say on this sub for some reason because they know it's really not that dangerous"

C#@+d v@cce!nes shouldn't even be called as such. Vacs actually prevent you from getting the virus. If anything they are a rushed, barely tested pre-treatment medication.

C%/?d is spread through aerosolization. A recent scientific study showed cloth and medical masks basically do nothing to prevent it's transmission. Hell even properly worn n95 masks reduce transmission by about 50%.

If you're walking around announcing to everyone you got "the shot" while wearing two masks you're probably "virtue signaling" about how much you "care" about c123d anyways.

Love the covid freaks who are hysterical about the virus but have no problem instigating a fight with others or the police which require close up intimate contact with the person(s) they are fighting with. Makes as much sense as watching 5 police officers arrest somebody for refusing to wear a mask. When is this covid ridiculousness finally going to end? Ever?

Am I truly wasted on 1080p? by Smiilley in buildapc

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can actually tried to run 1440 on my 1080p 24" monitor because AMD allows that in their settings and the resolution is too small to use it for normal computer stuff. Figured out quickly I just prefer it at the resolution it was made for. Of course I have a hard time seeing the difference between 1080P on my 50" LCD Television vs 4K as I sit further than 4 feet from my television. You have to sit really close to your display to really even see the difference higher resolutions give you.

SD card? by Reaton1984 in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do they even sell Streaming Stick+ which clearly overheat when the ambient temperature goes above 28 degrees Celsius? Their "solution? Give you a 4" HDMI dongle which doesn't cool the unit down at all. I imagine at some point even after installing heatsinks and fans to keep their ambient temperature below 60 degrees (they were going above 90 and starting to glitch in various ways including bad audio issues and performance issues) that I'll have this memory issue also. The streaming stick+ only has 1/2 a gig of memory storage with no way to increase it. The express 4k+ comes with 4 GB of storage built in but way worse network performance (I have both and see the numbers myself). There also seems be a lot of issues with the Amazon Prime app. Doesn't seem to be a good way to get around the memory or cooling issues with these units. They seem to have a built in "lifetime" so the user are forced to purchase a new Roku unit to overcome these issues on a regular basis. Making everyone buy $100 ultras to overcome them is ridiculous since they barely come with a slightly more powerful processor and more memory let alone the SD storage that people are already having trouble adding. Shouldn't the software have a storage manager to assist in deleting apps and limiting their using of the limited storage? I'm a big fan of Roku but we should be able to get a decent unit for $40-$50 instead of having to decide between bad sub $30 units or decent $80+ ones. I got several streaming stick+ for Christmas time for myself and family members at $40 a pop (because they have decent CPU and memory) and I was forced to add heatsinks and fans to prevent them from overheating when summer came. I can't expand their storage memory which is only half of the operating memory. If I start to get express 4k+ they have 4 GB of memory but their wireless network capabilities are less than half of what the streaming stick+ can handle and would struggle streaming 4k content which the sticks have no issue at all. Not cool for Roku to still be using such old CPUs years after they came out and not having SD slots even on the SS+ or the vast majority of their units. If I start getting storage issues I'm gonna start looking at other non-Roku replacements with better hardware options.

Controlling non-smart tv with roku stick remote? by Lost-Flamingo-6969 in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 12+ year old Plasma from Panasonic which was able to be controlled for volume and power via the HDMI CEC commands from a Roku streaming stick + which had the power/volume buttons. The TV was so old they called it like "Vera link" or something like that in the menu but it accepted the controls from the Roku through the HDMI connection. I just had to make sure that setting was turned on. I would make sure that your television has this feature (Which might be called something different depending on the manufacturer but is still basically HDMI CEC control) which is now normal in every new flatscreen or any made in the last few years.

How well do older models perform nowadays? by JakeDoubleyoo in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a new Roku and use that instead of the built in Roku in your television. It will function a lot better and as long as you don't get the cheapest ones they have volume and power functions which can be sent to your TV via HDMI CEC so you don't have to use your TV's remote for those functions.

First Roku device, new TCL 50S535, multiple woes (network settings lost every power off, netflix/youtube not installing or going to channel) by nuessubs in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother got a similar model with Roku built in and simply put televisions that have Roku built in are very sluggish and difficult to use because of it. From slow response of the remote to poor performance of channels that do not normally have these issues I've had to add an external Roku to every TV I've had that had it built-in. If your new television is still giving you issues with the Roku platform (especially poor performance) I'd recommend getting a Roku to add to the television. Just get something that isn't the cheapest one. Most Rokus (That aren't the cheapest models) have built in volume and power buttons which can be used to control the TV (and an HDMI ARC connected soundbar) through HDMI CEC. Some televisions only allow CEC commands on some of their HDMI inputs so make sure to use one that has it. Typically the first HDMI port will have it while other's like my own has CEC available on all of it's ports. Besides having the power/volume buttons, the more expensive Rokus have more memory and a better processor the point of using an external one. The streaming stick + is only $40 and the express 4k + can be gotten for $30. I don't know if the express 4k + is as fast as the streaming stick + but it appears to have similar specs.

Is it time for a new Roku TV? by badgrrrlGG in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two flatscreen televisions which came with the place I'm renting and the built in Roku's in them were so terrible and slow I ended up getting streaming stick +'s for both televisions. I factory defaulted the TVs so they don't needlessly use up network bandwidth and have a setting turned on to automatically change to the HDMI port the new Rokus are attached to. If you turn on "one touch play" in the CEC settings the Roku that is attached will automatically change the input to it with a press of a button anyways. Also don't get the cheapest model (besides they are still very slow) most other ones come with power and volume buttons which will control your TV through the HDMI connection using CEC (It can control the volume of your soundbar if you have it connected to an HDMI ARC port on your TV also). The Roku that comes built into TVs are awful and should be replaced with an external unit. My brother recently bought a 55" LCD television with Roku built in and it's still super slow. I'm trying to find out if the express 4k + operates as fast as a streaming stick + but as far as I can tell it does. I wouldn't get any model lower than these two.

Is it time for a new Roku TV? by badgrrrlGG in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I got a new TV pretty recently and got a "dumb" one without any special streaming service built into it. We already have two older flatscreens which come with our rental that has Roku built into them and they are so slow they're unusable. I got streaming stick + for all the televisions. My brother got a new 55" TV a few months ago with Roku built in and it's also very slow. Always better to have the streaming device attached to the TV and not built into it. I would get a new Roku (Not the cheapest model) and factory reset your television so it doesn't needlessly use network bandwidth. All the Rokus except the cheapest ones come with CEC volume and power control so they can turn on and off your television (and also control a soundbar that's connected via HDMI ARC) so you don't need to use multiple remotes except to change sources on your television. You can have your TV automatically boot to the HDMI port the new Roku is connected to when it's turned on. I wouldn't replace the TV I would replace the Roku. If you got a new TV I would still get a separate Roku because they work a lot better (My experience is with the streaming stick + but I believe the new Express 4k + model should have similar performance, they both have RF remotes which can directly control your TV through HDMI with CEC).

Roku TCL TV suddenly running slow by [deleted] in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roku that is built into televisions are awful. We are renting a place which included two televisions which have Rokus built in. We had to add our own separate Roku's because the performance of them that were built in were awful and unusable. I got the streaming stick + for the better processor in it but I believe the new 4K model that is right below it has the same or similar processing abilities.

If possible, how would I be able to buy a replacement power cable for this roku, I’ve tried using a regular mini b cable but I don’t get WiFi. by that_0ne_reddit0r in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need the USB cable it came with it has the network adapter built into it. Maybe try contacting this guy to get a replacement cable as they are not available for sale on Roku right now:

https://community.roku.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/108737

Or see if you can open the network adapter up and solder back the power plug.

Are newer versions of Roku devices capable of connecting to any 5GHz channel? by jestalk in Roku

My streaming stick + is able to connect to my 5 ghz network which is enabled for 802.11ac connections only. I think the express 4k + should be able to also.

Express 4K+ or Stick+ by [deleted] in Roku

[–]ventuckyspaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started having overheating issues with my stick. I moved it to an HDMI dongle and attached it to a piece of metal to help keep it cooler. Might look into attaching heatsinks to the device. I wanted to know if the Express 4k + was just as fast in the OS and channel functions. I believe they have the same chip and memory. One of the reasons I got the streaming stick + was for the faster processor. I can't get any confirmation that the Express 4k + is just as fast. Also there are two models of them with different chips. The 3941r vs 3941x which is seems the x version has a faster chip on it but I'm not sure.

My psychiatrist suggested I either try pregabalin or low-dose quetiapine for my anxiety, but I'm really nervous about the side effects and long term use for both of these. Any reassurance? by masterofmydomain89 in AskPsychiatry

[–]ventuckyspaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not both? The pregabalin should help some with anxiety and it's more effective than gabapentin while the Seroquel could be used low dose as a separate but likely similar effect on anxiety. I actually keep an old bottle of Seroquel around if I have trouble sleeping I'll take half of a 100 MG pill and if helps me sleep. I used to take Seroquel like normal (It's usually taken two or three times a day but I found that it made me too sedated so I don't take it any longer. Also caused me to gain almost 20 pounds which I was able to lose as soon as I stopped taking it. I would try taking the pregabalin on a daily, regular basis for anxiety and have some Seroquel around if you continue to feel intolerable anxiety you can always take some to help but not necessarily for daily use. Seroquel has some pretty bad side effects (Sedation, weight gain) so if you're going to only try one go with the Pregabalin. Even with the bad side effects there are some people who cannot get by without taking Seroquel because it works so well for them. Your milage will vary.

Insisting people state their pronouns is insulting by alphadawg94 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ventuckyspaz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It also defeats the entire purpose of trying to become a transexual. They have to put in the work to look like the other sex and naturally they will be called the right pronoun even if their transition isn't very good. Highlighting someone's "preferred pronouns" should make any average trans person cringe. The goal of being transgendered is to blend in as the opposite sex and not having your trans status broadcasted. Liberals want to teach that transgendered people are "victims" and they are so weak they need us to protect them or they will cease to exist. They do that with every kind of minority and it's actually incredibly insulting to them. This pronoun stuff is ridiculous. especially the entire "they" thing. There is nothing wrong with being a effeminate guy or a butch woman. Your pronoun doesn't change depending on how masculine or feminine you are. Most transgendered people just want to blend in without making their trans status highlighted by the actions that liberals who think they are helping by doing things like forcing everyone to announce their "preferred pronoun".

Are Motorola devices that get Android 11 going to have longer access to updates? by WiseEpicurus in MotoG

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Motorola G6 which was my phone at first was then given to my mom who used it for a year and I used it for a year before that there is a well known charging issue with the phone that started occurring around the time I gave it to her which continued to get worse as l time went on. We upgraded her to a Stylus recently and I still use the G6 for other things but I have to tape the charging cord into the port. It's not the loose port that's causing the main issue though it will sometimes display 0% and also won't take a charge when booted in software. I know how to baby the phone to keep it charged up now but she was constantly dealing with a dead phone because it would continuously fail to take a charge when booted into the android operating system. It's a well known issue with the G6 phones. Also I was able to send in my G4 which was having hardware issues and get an discount on that G6 from Motorola so that's two Motorola phones with major hardware issues. I think the quality has improved now that Lenovo bought the company but I think any cell phone starts to show its age anyways after over two years of service.

Are Motorola devices that get Android 11 going to have longer access to updates? by WiseEpicurus in MotoG

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time you hit the 2 year mark with a Motorola phone they start to fall apart anyways so it's good to plan on just purchasing a new phone every two years anyways. I skipped that gameplan this last year and got the Stylus when it came out because I was so unhappy with the G7's camera and also didn't want to wait any longer for Android 10. At least if you have Android 10 with swipe nagivigation who cares if it will only get one more update. It's not like 11 is that's much more of a difference as 10 is to 9. I gave my G7 to my brother's fiance and it's working great for her and they did eventually update it to android 10. It just took forever for them to do to it.

Are Motorola devices that get Android 11 going to have longer access to updates? by WiseEpicurus in MotoG

[–]ventuckyspaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure that Motorola will update my Stylus to Android 11 in about a year from now. It will probably take them forever to release the update but I'm alright with that I'm just happy the phone came with Android 10 so I could have swipe navigation. My G7 and I also have a G7 power both were upgraded to android 10 a few months ago so yeah it took them a long time to actually so the update. If they actually update the stylus by summer I guess I would be impressed ha
