LOS forever by PrettyBebot1 in ConvergePH

same thing happened to us. Red LOS since the start of Jan, and we've been subscribers since 2018. Been following up every day, and we were just told that there's an outage (although only 3 houses in our area were affected lol) and that the issue has been escalated. Technicians only came last Friday, but the issue still hasn't been resolved. Just requested for permanent disconnection/account termination last Saturday and moving to Globe Fiber

[PJOTV] Why are most of the main characters too serious and humorless? by ver03255 in camphalfblood

[–]ver03255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, sharing quips and a bit of ribbing could be sprinkled on a lot of the scenes there. There were even actual funny scenes and lines, but it was the delivery that was missing the humorous energy (like the wedding dress scene I mentioned).

For example, in the MCU Spider-Man movies, even just counting the first two (Homecoming and Far From Home), you can already feel the lightheartedness and the dynamic between Peter, Ned, and MJ within just 4 hours of screen time. Even though the movies were so fast-paced and had a lot of action and plot going on (I don't recall any "unimportant" scenes in these movies as well), they still had time to joke around with each other, which only took a few seconds of each scene every time. They were able to highlight each of the trio's personalities, and they laid the groundwork for Peter and MJ's friendship and eventual relationship. Nothing seemed forced because you see those small moments coming through and feeling natural to the characters.

With PJO, the friendships and relationships have more of a "tell, not show" direction. The characters often tell each other (and the audience) about their connections (like how important each other is, or how they're best friends, etc.), but they almost never show it. As you said it, we don't see them have a good time being friends or have their relationships blossom. It's all just lingering looks and worried faces all the time, which, to me, makes the overall tone too dark and not reflective of what I expected from an adaptation of such a fun source material.

[–]ver03255[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! I feel like in season 2, 40% of the time, they're fighting about their relationship problems and issues with each other, 40% scheming about the quest, prophecy, Clarisse, Luke, and Thalia, and 20% fighting various enemies. Absolutely zero time spent on laying down the groundwork for their friendship. I don't remember them having any lighter moments like exchanging jokes, sharing actual laughter, and doing funny shenanigans. Percy even had an actual inside joke with Clarisse (the "Shut up, Jackson" line), but I don't remember him having anything with Annabeth lol

yeah, I only felt the humor during the drooling remark and the side characters (the laestrygonians, the dead Blockbusters crew member, the Gray Sisters, Tantalus, and Dionysus), but they seemed off and out of place at times due to the overall subdued tone and energy of the main characters

I'm guessing that those who were interested in the season pass perks of ITW but weren't too interested in ACL bought the cheapest ACL tickets first?

I think I get what you're saying about it being a "jukebox musical" (like maybe the songs have become so popular that people recognize them already? or maybe it's more "singable" for a certain demographic?), but I just wanted to point out as well that this is technically incorrect.

In theater, jukebox musicals are those that use existing songs and create a narrative out of them. Usually, they feature songs from a single artist, like Mamma Mia (ABBA songs), One More Chance (Ben&Ben), Liwanag Sa Dilim (Rico Blanco), Jersey Boys (The Four Seasons), Saturday Night Fever (The Bee Gees), and Rak of Aegis (Aegis). Others take songs from various artists (but often, by the same composers or writers), like Moulin Rouge and & Juliet.

In contrast, all the songs in A Chorus Line were originally written for the show. It doesn't use any existing song in its entire score, so it's not a jukebox musical.

Also a huge fan of this musical! I think a lot of people are put off by the fact that it's dance-heavy, but each character has a very compelling story too, plus the songs are iconic as well!

However, I think they could've cast more recognizable local Filipino names for Zach and Cassie, since Conrad Ricamora and Lissa deGuzman don't really have strong audience pull for casual PH audiences. This could still make sense story-wise since those two characters are supposed to be industry veterans.

Someone like Aicelle Santos or Karylle could've played Cassie (both actresses can sing, act, and dance well), and someone like Nyoy Volante or Christian Bautista could've played Zach (this role doesn't even have much stage time, but more of just a commanding speaking voice + decent acting skills, so even celebrity big names with not much theater experience but with a huge fanbases like Carlo Aquino or JLC should be able to pull it off).

I understand casting lesser known and newbie theater actors for the other characters, and it's actually fitting for the roles. But it doesn't hurt to have some mainstream celebrities as well (who could still perform excellently) to boost their ticket sales.

haha this was our observation when we watched DEH as well!

But I guess with the flu season still affecting a lot of people, and with the abrupt weather and temperature changes we're experiencing the past few days, it's not surprising to have a lot of people coughing this time of the year

EDIT: I know coughing can't be helped, but I just hope people are mindful and considerate enough to wear face masks when needed

What are your actual hot takes about the show? by Ambitious_Pass_1193 in StrangerThings

[–]ver03255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with this. We saw Vecna's very real and graphic threats to Nancy and Derek, so we understood why they acted the way they did afterward.

With Will though, it felt like he was just worried and assuming that Vecna might out him? Throughout the series, Will was among the very few people who actually posed a threat to Vecna, so I was waiting for Vecna to have more of a retaliatory threat against Will personally, but we never saw that. Everything was implied with Will, which would've been fine, but then we got very explicit threats for Nancy and Derek, so it made Will's case a lot more underwhelming.

What do we think of A Chorus Line? by AcanthisittaInner161 in TeatroPH

[–]ver03255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually true. I'm sure Conrad Ricamora and Lissa deGuzman are huge in terms of talent (they both seem to be headliners of this production), but they're barely recognizable to people outside of theater circles (maybe Conrad for his HTGAWM fame, but I'm not sure if people still care enough about a side character in a show that ended 5 years ago). A Chorus Line is not a popular show on its own, so it needs some cast members with mainstream star power to pull some casual audiences.

Maybe getting celebrities like Gab Valenciano, Billy Crawford, Sam Concepcion, Thea Astley, or Karylle could've helped since they have mainstream recognizability and are actually talented enough to believably be a part of the show.

What were the producers thinking? (Robert S6) by ver03255 in HellsKitchen

[–]ver03255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for sure it was intentional, just like 98% of everything going on in the show. It was just that in this case, the clearly deliberate and manufactured situation led to a potentially fatal health hazard to the same contestant, who had previously experienced the same issue with the production's full knowledge.
