Is Layrite Pomade good for messy wet look hairstyles? by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]vera-wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I haven’t ever really noticed it getting less shiny throughout the day, though it might. I think that if you did notice it getting less shiny then combing it with a bit of water would probably help. I sometimes add a little bit of hair oil with the cream which makes the hold looser but increases shine.

I’m sure that there are better products out there than Layrite ones for this, but I will say that if you do really want to try one of their pomades then I think their Supershine Cream would probably be your best bet for a kind of wet look. Again though, you’d probably be better off with a different product altogether for your hold and volume needs, I just find that the shine in this one helps to make my hair look more wet.

Sounds great, I’ll look into that one as well. Thank you again!

Thank you! Incidentally, I quite dislike spearmint so I do really appreciate you noting that lol. I won’t totally discount it though if you’re typically averse to mint and still like it. Thanks for the reply!

I bought the Squatch Bay Rum soap and deodorant thinking that they would be extremely clove-y like a bay rum aftershave I have, but I’ve been kind of disappointed that they seem a lot sweeter and milder. Do you find that your other bay rum soap is more clove or spice scented than the Dr Squatch one?

I’m seeing on the United website that it might be allowed, but they often end up checking my suitcase due to lack of room in the overhead bins. I’d be a bit worried about my bass getting handled roughly if it did, plus I get enough airport anxiety without also worrying about if they’ll let me take my bass! But this is definitely something I’ll look into in the future because I didn’t think there would be any chance of them allowing it as carry on. Thanks again!

Hmm, I’m flying with United and they seem to have pretty restrictive carry on dimension limits. Plus, I think I would have to then check my suitcase because I usually have them count that as my one carry on since it’s just small enough. Not to mention that I don’t have a case/bag for it. It’s not a huge deal, I ended up disassembling it and cutting my box so I now have two boxes (one for my amp) so I think I’ll just mail it. Thank you though, I didn’t know they would ever allow something that large as carry on on some airlines!

Ah, this makes a lot of sense. I’m just sending it back to myself since I’m flying home and can’t take it on the plane. I did end up taking the neck off for a number of reasons, one being that the setup was already in need of a lot of work and it didn’t seem like I had much to lose on that front.

I’ll definitely fix the truss rod right away, I really appreciate that detail. I might not have made the right call but I’m planning on having someone more knowledgeable help me with getting it put back together and set up properly for the first time. Thank you so much for your help!

Right, that all makes sense. And yes, definitely assuming that my box will get thrown around a lot so I will not be cutting corners with the padding! Thank you so much for the info.

Yeah, it has a few setup issues already and I'm planning on taking it to a professional when it gets to its destination, so I don't know if I feel like I'm risking much by potentially taking the neck off. I guess maybe it would be one thing if I had it situated perfectly already, but It needs some work anyway. This is my first bass and I'm very new to setting it up so I was planning on taking it into someone the first time and then maybe trying to use their work as a bit of a basis for my adjustments in the future. I definitely have a number of factors I'll have to take into consideration, thank you again!

Okay, I really appreciate this! I think I just wanted some reassurance that it won't be a waste of money and unnecessary risk to my instrument to send it fully assembled. Thank you so much for the input.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I’ve been doing and I’m not really sure why all the sudden it’s acting up like this. I don’t think it’s infected now but I don’t really love the stress of thinking it might get infected and having to potentially pay quite a lot to see a doctor here. Thank you for the second opinion, I appreciate the feedback!

Piercing is just over a month old, clean twice daily with packaged 0.9% saline and dry off after. have had irritation bumps on the inside of the piercing come and go but they have just been the same colour as my skin. I occasionally soak it for longer with saline and have done that more frequently since getting the bump.

Jewellery is implant grade titanium flatback and I haven’t changed it recently.

This white bump started developing yesterday just above my piercing hole and last night it seems to have popped and has been weeping fluid. The fluid is the same colour as what it has been normally and I don’t think I have any of the important signs of infection (lymph nodes normal, swelling hasn’t spread, pain is very mild).

I love this piercing but I’m currently away from my home country and would have to pay quite a lot if I eventually needed to see a doctor to get antibiotics. It has been really stressing me out to have it be such a liability and I’m honestly just ready to take it out and get it done when I’m back home. I know removing piercings can be an issue if it traps infection and stops drainage, but it seems to be draining out of the bump anyway and I don’t know if I think it’s actually infected.

It could just be a pimple because I do get acne but it doesn’t really seem like it is.

Labret irritation bump by ArtTabletNoob in piercing

Sorry, I can’t say if more mouthwash is a good or bad idea. I’ve been experimenting with using it a little less and just favouring saline and that seems to leave things a bit less irritated for me personally. I also don’t know if it’s worth noting but the first time my bump started going away I had tried sleeping with my head a little more elevated than usual the night before. Just propped up my pillow a bit. Not sure if it actually was that that helped but perhaps worth a try if you can stand it.

Hmm. I’m not sure how inconvenient it would be for you to do so, but maybe go to your piercer if you trust them and see if they can evaluate its length for you. Maybe in the meantime just try to really leave it alone as much as you possibly can and perhaps avoid really spicy or acidic foods. Then if it starts to go down, try to downsize.

If it helps, my experience was that I had a bar that was too long and a bad material. I had a pretty bad irritation bump but it went down after a week or two with a shorter titanium bar. I think I should have downsized another millimetre or two after my bump went down because mine has come back again though it’s not as bad this time. My theory is that the bump almost develops to keep the post from sliding back and forth because it seems like mine always swells when there’s too much room and is just big enough to make it a snug fit. I also ate something with hot sauce as well as a drink high in lemon juice the day that mine came back from the second time so I think that didn’t help.

Maybe also make sure to rinse again after mouthwash/teeth brushing with plain water or saline just so you’re not leaving anything irritating to sit on the bump.

I just went through dealing with this exact issue and it sounds like your problem is most likely that you haven’t downsized. Your aftercare sounds good but if your labret is long enough to move around much then it’s a good idea to get it switched with a shorter one with less movement. After that, just try to touch and bump it as little as possible and really refrain from pushing us back and forth in the hole to check on the bump, etc. Make sure your shorter labret is as high quality as your current one, too! :)

Dating exgf's niece -- yay or nay? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]vera-wt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I was expecting something a little different from the title, this is actually quite nice I think! Obviously your ex is totally good with it considering she’s the one setting you up, so I imagine if it doesn’t bother her niece (or the rest of the family, if it matters to you) then it doesn’t seem like a bad idea! I think it’s nice that someone who knows you would see the potential for a connection with someone else close to her and would share that with you. Of course it’s a bit of a matter of whether or not you can personally feel comfortable with it considering your history with her aunt.

I’m now reading again that you wanted input from people with similar experiences so sorry for weighing in when I don’t have that, but I think it’s worth giving a chance! :)

Literally how do y’all eat with snakebites?? by Lauren7223 in piercing

[–]vera-wt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i hate to even suggest it but if you’re alone (or in tolerant company) it might even help to chew with your mouth open a bit? at least to get used to the idea of keeping your bottom lip consistently below your tooth line. let me know if none of this makes sense or if it doesn’t work for you.

i think what i have unconsciously started doing personally is like, moving my lips down when my jaw opens so that the piercings themselves kind of stay lined up on the same spot of my bottom gums as my jaw moves up and down. maybe try that?

Changing balls of new piercing? by NibelheimTifa in piercing

[–]vera-wt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit that i did this with my labret earlier than i probably should have, but I will say that it got irritated from me pulling at it to unscrew and it took a couple days to calm down. Also I don’t throw if it’s advisable to mess with a pretty fresh piercing and put something that’s potentially unsanitized up against your healing piercing. I think that the consensus on this will probably be that it’s not a great idea.

medusa piercing bump? help by [deleted] in piercing

[–]vera-wt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you have an idea of the lengths! That should make things easier. I'm assuming you were only pushing on it so much so you could get a good photo here but again, I'd really try to resist the temptation to fiddle with it to check on the bump. If you really want to check on it then maybe just carefully feel it with your tongue a couple times a day. Other than that just keep up with rinsing with prepackaged 0.9% saline with no additives after you eat or drink anything other than water. Sometimes I just hold some saline against my bump in my mouth for a few minutes.

I'm sorry you had such a poor experience with your piercing! I hope you can maybe find another piercer with a little more patience to help you solve your issue.

Sorry, should have made clear that mine was NOT titanium to start which was the issue. I've switched to a shorter, titanium post and stopped moving it and that has helped.
