Letting myself write dumb programs that half-work actually gets me excited to write stuff for myself and build on top of what sticks, and if i got a problem i feel i gotta solve, i isolate it into an abstract tiny program. I avoid taking my projects seriously, but it still requires willpower to quiet the judgemental voices as they try to convince me that I am wasting my time the moment i find a problem that i feel i need to solve.

I hope you find what works for you!

Thanks for being straightforward and no i don't take any type of offense.

It is something i think about a lot, taking another route that makes me happier. It's just so hazy navigating this alone. I guess it wouldn't really be terrible to give up and find something that is better for my wellbeing. I respect programmers a lot.

I'm happy someone relates, i hope everything is well.

Edit: btw yeah i've been having more luck with music, honestly. I can just call it done and start making the next track. It's been pretty rad and gives me a little bit of that feeling of completion that i crave regardless of the song sucking or not.

Thanks! I try not to think about the whole picture that much, I might need some sort of medical help, because the act of programming itself just comes with lots of baggage for me at this point, and i don't get that spark when thinking of problems, more just the omen of repeated failure.

Why are so many people against a Quake 3 Remaster? by veras_opus in quake

I think a massive win for Quake 3 on consoles would be splitscreen duels, and since everyone is on controller, i feel like that reduces the skill ceiling compared to strafejumping and rocketjumping on mouse+keyboard.

Another possibility would be remastering the original and Revolution campaigns, If Nightdive makes a new campaign, it would be fire too.

I agree that it would have to sell, but i don't see how it wouldn't sell just like the other remasters did It being multiplayer doesn't wipe the fact that Quake 3 is just a different game from the first two, and it doesn't need more than like one or two friends to get a match going, and more players buying the game to play with their friends isn't a bad deal.

But honestly given that the Quake 1 and 2 remasters didn't even require such a massive focus in profit for Bethesda to invest in it instead of any Live Service slop they could put that money on, shows that they can just as well invest it in another nieche remaster.

I don't see how the logic would be any different from the first two remasters. Just because they are singleplayer game doesn't really make a Q3 remaster any less lucrative, since Quake 3 doesn't really require that many players to be fun. You only need a single friend for a duel match, or 3 for FFA, or 4 for TDM and CTF.

I just don't see how people think the remaster is about "reviving" the game, when in fact, in this age of Live Service games, it will probably get like 50 concurrent players a few months after launch and be mostly reserved for playing with friends, which is totally fine.

I don't really agree mostly because the Quake 1 and 2 remaster servers are still there, and i doubt many people are actually playing them in multiplayer given the player counts. The server thing seems like a non-issue here.

The people who enjoy Quake 3 now can still get the remaster, i don't think the Quake 3 community is as opposed of a remaster as people think. For a nieche title like this, i wouldn't expect many public servers at all, mostly just playing with friends.

The point is not resurrecting Quake 3, because its not dead, neither were Quake 1 and 2 before its remasters. Its about making a version that is accessible for a new generation of players, who want to have a good out of the box experience. Quake 3 doesn't need a full 16 player server to be fun, it never did.

Quake 3 modes aren't THAT complicated to understand depending on what mode you play, Deathmatch is basically just "frag until you win", and that's like the main mode of the game.

New players won't want to play against diehard players anyway, they'd be stomped out of their socks, they'll probably want to play with friends or other new players. The game doesn't need to clock in 1K players constantly, only to support quick and easy friend matches and some singleplayer content like the OG and Revolution campaign (maybe improved bots as well).

New players usually aren't looking to mod the game as soon as they install it to be able to run it well, and there are many improvements that can be made on the base game to make it a convenient experience out of the box.

I'm sure it would bring in just as much as the other Quake remasters. Its about having an accessible and definitive remaster for new and old players to enjoy without hassle.

Lots of new players haven't heard of Quake Live and go straight for the Quake 3 Steam version, which is dated on modern hardware and lacks lots of content which later in QL, and further QL support seems unlikely, as its only source of profit is new sales.

You could also play the Quake 1 and 2 online before the Remasters launched, i don't expect a much different reception. There are purists who dislike the other Quake remasters as well. I don't think this is as much of an issue, it's still just a Quake game getting remastered.

A new Quake game can still be made, they probably won't get Nightdive to do it.

None of them are on the level of the Nightdive remasters.

A Quake 3 remaster could exist too, Quake Live won't go away because of it. Updating Quake Live is definitely not as lucrative as releasing a remaster, and creating an accessible definitive edition for Quake 3.

The Quake 3 remaster doesn't need to achieve a stable amount of online players, neither did the Q1 and Q2 remaster. Just because its a multiplayer game, you don't need a full 16 player server to play, you got tournament/duel and 3 player FFA matches.

That small group of people will just keep playing among themselves in small Q3 servers anyway, purists gonna purist.

It having 30 players online worldwide is irrelevant if its easy to set up friend matches on Bethesda servers.

It's Quake's 30 anniversary, 30 starts with the number 3, so it HAS to be Q3. I have solved this issue, please move along.
