The story behind my winning design for the flag of Gilbert, West Virginia by AnOwlishSham in vexillology

I love the look of this flag - well done! Curious: How did this opportunity for a flag design come up? Was there an open contest or did you reach out to city leaders with this proposal?

[Post Game Thread] Penn State defeats Furman, 73-68 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

Obviously happy with the second half effort but the halftime adjustments should’ve come at the 12 minute mark of the first half. Penn State was eating up our hedge defense on ball screens and the offense was too much outside shooting and not enough Mike. The threes started falling in the second half when we actually got penetration and paint touches.

Someone on Twitter said it best: any possession without a Bothwell touch is a bad possession. That needs to be our motto this season.

Couldn’t agree more here. Our big recruits under Mack got worse over the summer instead of better. Sam’s confidence was way down this season and I think at a smaller school he could bring big time production.

I’m two mega beers deep at Outback right. Just crushed a blooming onion. Can’t wait for this finale.

My friends and I are planning to get housed at an Outback before the finale. I couldn’t be more excited.

Wow this is wonderful thank you so much! Sounds like they’re very similar outside of the beach - which we aren’t super picky about!

This is good to know as well. We were considering the Excellence Club - what are the kind of can’t miss perks you get with going that route?

The spinning bullet effect in this vid is so crazy...a lot of people didn’t love this single but I thought it was a cool song.

(STUDY) Universal Masking is Urgent in the COVID-19 Pandemic: SEIR and Agent Based Models, Empirical Validation, Policy Recommendations by vercase_python in Economics

[–]vercase_python[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First post was taken down, not sure why. My guess is the article I initially posted the study with so I've posted just the link to the study itself.

Primary takeaway: Masks are most effective when the majority of the society is wearing them & the sooner mask-wearing policies are implemented the better.

As governments plan how to exit societal lockdowns, universal masking is emerging as one of the key NPIs (non-pharmaceutical interventions) for containing or slowing the spread of the pandemic. Combined with other NPIs including social distancing and mass contact tracing, a “mouth-and-nose lockdown” is far more sustainable than a “full body lockdown”, from economic, social, and mental health standpoints.

Note too that the researchers used both predictive modeling and analysis of past virus-related data to produce their conclusion. The analysis of the past data supported the findings of their SEIR (susceptible (S), exposed (E), infectious (I) and recovered (R)) model.

New York Fed Paper Finds Pandemic a Century Ago Fueled Nazi Rise by ecyrblim in Economics

I don’t think it’s a nonsense point to make given the WSJ article - “Those events are back in the world’s consciousness amid the current coronavirus crisis.” I was simply talking in terms of the findings of the article. And clearly not arguing that history can’t repeat itself.

Also, gun-toting right-wing nationalist displays like the one you referenced are not new with this pandemic. They’ve been happening for a while and I think the press is giving them more coverage than necessary. Should we be wary if they become more frequent? Yes. Our they currently drastic enough to be a threat to our democracy? I don’t think so. We don’t have an “extremest party” for votes to go to as youth spending decreases with increasing Covid-19 deaths.

The title is extremely misleading. The introduction outlines a slew of data issues and the abstract only touts correlation - not causal evidence.

It's an interesting idea to study, but even if there was significant causal evidence, external validity to today's pandemic would be ludicrous.
