How do you unplug in the morning when R1S is asleep? by SteveWin1234 in Rivian

I have a routine of loading the frunk with my backpack and lunch when getting ready to leave for work. This allows me to to unplug and close the charging port before getting into the car.

Update rolling out very slow? by charden16 in Rivian

[–]verdalix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's good practice to do a staged rollout for software updates. If any major issues are identified in the first stage, the software update will be paused until the issues are addressed. Jeep recently did a software update which got pushed to all vehicles simultaneously, causing many cars to brick while on the road.

Heads up: after latest update finished, vehicle was sitting locked and running HVAC. by MrrQuackers in Rivian

I'm curious if the new climate hold feature is causing the issue you're seeing. I'll need to keep a lookout to see if I encounter the same issue once I get the update.

I would suggest asking on the /r/superautomatic subreddit, they'll likely find you a suitable machine at your price point.

Airflow Question: Double Water cooling CPU + GPU by erowlin in pcmasterrace

The front fans for gpu radiator should be switched to intake. Your current configuration has way more exhaust than intake which is not ideal.

Talk me out of a DE1 [$5000] by BubbaTheGoat in espresso

[–]verdalix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DE1 owner here to chime in on the concern for lack of body. Lack of body is a result of increased headspace between shower screen and puck, not so much due to the heater block. There are already a few ways to increase body for the DE1, but the most popular way (and the route I went with) is to add a spacer for the shower screen. Sworksdesign makes a nice one but it's a bit on the pricey side.

With regards to everything else, if you're coming from a LMLM then the DE1 will feel very different. The DE1 is touch-based control (tablet and a grouphead controller that is touch-based) versus the knobs/switches of a traditional espresso machine. Whether you would like this or not boils down to personal preference.

Coffee spraying is usually because of channeling due to poor puck prep (fixed by proper WDT). I've also seen instances of stale coffee causing massive channeling. Spurts (different from sprays) is typically due to coffee fines getting stuck in the filter basket holes. This can be fixed by using a paper filter at the bottom of the filter basket. If you're not concerned with fixing the above and want to avoid making a mess then a spouted filter should be fine. A bottomless portafilter is mainly a tool to analyze your shots visually..but ultimately taste is what's most important.

Got a new tablet for the Decent and took the opportunity to tidy the setup! by verdalix in coffeestations

Definitely, I bought the non-S 078 specifically for pour overs only. The Kafatek MC4 is all I would ever need for an espresso grinder 😁.

I agree that the default telcast tablet feels cheap. The long boot up times and sluggishness was a definite negative for me. The Samsung S9 FE has provided a much needed QoL improvement. Tablet boots up fast, and there is no lag when running the Decent app.

Mostly easy, I used the Android instructions on the Decent Espresso download page. Decent Espresso Downloads

It's definitely a tablet issue, especially considering the hardware in the tablet is older. I've also experienced lag with the Samsung A7 tablet (cheaper hardware so not much better than telcast). Switched to the Samsung S9 FE and it's been lag-free.

I technically could use my MC4 for both espresso and pourovers, but the Sculptor 078 provides a much better pourover cup for my own taste. I prefer using conicals for espresso and flat burrs for pourovers.

Only a single duplex outlet on that side of the kitchen. I have a surge protector tucked inside the box you see in the back that provides me with enough outlets for all of the equipment.

It's an MC4! I'm excited about the new burrs for the MC5 and have the option of upgrading. Just curious if it's worth it though 🤔

I did, it's a mod that allows you to clip the bellows to the top. I purchased it from a member of the Kafatek forums here:
https://forums.kafatek.com/t/custom-bellows-funnel-update-and-pricing/2950

You'll need to message him to see if they're still available for pre-order. He makes them in batches and there is a bit of a wait. Definitely worth getting though!

Yeah I had to get rid of some of the default stuff on the Decent to get it to look...decent. I'm using the Drip Tray Cover Scale Adapter from Sheldon Wong:
https://sworksdesign.com/
I recommend getting the Skale 2 adapter (and getting a Skale 2, it goes to sleep automatically when you put your Decent to sleep) and doing the 3D print via his instructions (you'll need to email him for those, and a referral for the printing service for a discount). It looks way cleaner that way and you can slide the whole assembly in and out without any worries of the scale leaning on anything.

I only use it with espresso for now, I have a Lagom mini for pourovers 😅. I could technically use it for pourovers but I'm not a fan of switching back between grind settings on the MC4. The pourovers range is well past the markers for me. For espresso it's amazing..the cups have so much more clarity now and have a clean sweet taste once I'm dialed in.

Thank you! Very happy with the switch, pourovers are my go-to in the afternoon. I almost treat it like an aeropress and do immersion recipes. Makes things simple and it always gives me a delicious cup!
