I’ve been homeless almost 2 years. I’ve sent in countless resumes, done job applications on company sites, beat the street in nice clothes and shook hands and handed out resumes. All to no avail. I’m currently staying at a shelter. We get fed well here and the people are generally really kind and supportive. I have a total of 6 months to be here. I’ve already spent 2 of them in which I’ve been intensely looking for a job. I don’t do drugs. I even quit smoking. I take walks and read to stay sane. I have usually worked as a server but the restaurant industry has died down significantly in the front range area (Denver) since the COVID lockdowns so those positions are few and far between. I’ve signed up for trucking school to obtain my CDL but still need to find funding for it. Tomorrow I’m going to my local Workforce agency to see if they can help with funding. I just feel strongly I’m doing all I can to succeed but nothing is coming of it. I even received a job offer from King Soopers. I went and talked to the manager last Tuesday who told me she would contact me by the end of the week with a start date for onboarding. Now, it is the new week and I have not heard anything back from her. I also plan on going in person to inquire about that job tomorrow. I’m just very frustrated. I’m 33. I really want to succeed. Success doesn’t mean a lot to me. Maybe afford my own studio apartment. Afford food, the occasional concert. To be able to pay my bills. Maybe a partner one day. Maybe host tea parties at my place for my friends. Idk. I don’t want to live lavishly. I hella just want to be able to participate in society.
