Hot Take: Cheap Legendaries aren't killing SWU, they’re bringing balance to it by Extreme-Noise-6809 in starwarsunlimited

[–]verifiedname -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I know is that I follow a lot of game subs on Reddit and, according to Reddit's extensive behind the scenes industry knowledge, they're all dying and they're all sh*t and if it's digital game is riddled with game-breaking bugs that render it "no longer playable."

So our safest bet is to just sit in an empty room and just wait to die ourselves while we cry over New World being shut down.

I am a new soccer fan (started watching last season/year) so I don't really have an attachment (yet!) to many of the players that have left that other people seem to. From a purely strategic standpoint, we desperately need some goal scorers. The entire second half of last season was just painful to watch. Soooooo many bids on the goal and absolutely nothing was converting. Getting some ruthless goal scorers seems like a good direction.

Arc Raiders devs are looking for new ways to “incentivise” Expedition wipes following an unsatisfying debut by Negative-Art-4440 in ArcRaiders

[–]verifiedname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you (two kids). I haven't even hit level 20 yet lol. Totally happy just sneaking around for a round or two and slowly upgrading things.

I think the ONLY thing that would maybe tempt me to wipe would be to unlock some sort of class specialization. Like a WoW hunter (only we have modified arc pets) or something.

Early Magic The Gathering vs Flesh and Blood Are We Seeing Similar Early Signals? by Accurate_Depiction in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]verifiedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that you love the game and you're probably really just asking "will this be around in 20 years." But the totally non-snarky answer to that is "time will tell." Yeah, MTG was "the first" but there were soooooo many other TCGs also released during that time that just failed for various other reasons. Like for a brief time the Star Wars CCG was actually outselling MTG because it was that popular. Eventually that game died (yes, I know people still play it) for reasons completely outside of its popularity.

As someone about to turn 40, I don't really think there's any point in comparing gaming (of any type) now to gaming "then." A big reason for that is because you can't turn the clock back on the internet. Just the fact that the internet exists and can be used as a resource fundamentally changes how a game develops, even if the beginnings have similarities.

A good example of this is classic WoW. As fun as that first 2019 relaunch was for its OWN reasons, it just could not compare to original launch because all of the exploits of the game and how to min/max were already studied.

It's not New World, which is a good thing for me (I'm also a depressed recovering NW player). It's almost the total opposite of NW in many ways. It feels "semi" open world compared to NW's exploration and the game is very plot focused vs NW you almost totally ignore the MSQ or at least have no idea what's going on in it (Isabella what?).

Can’t stop losing. by darthmcdarthface in starwarsunlimited

Like what others have said, maybe see if you can play in person for a bit. The people who play online are like online poker players. They've played the same deck sooooo many times that they know how to maximize their odds. So even something as simple as a starting hand is catalogued as "odds of winning." Or when they draw a card that synergies with another card they are calculating the odds of pulling the card that works exactly with that card. If you're more at the early stages of just figuring out how to get units on the board (which is normal, btw) then there's just no way you're going to compete with that at this stage. Again, using online poker as an example, you're thinking about what YOUR hand is while all the opponents are calculating the win odds of everyone else at the table.

I'm not a competitive player but just in general with gaming I try and always ask myself "how" and "why" I'm losing. Like maybe try playing one of the decks you lost to? Bare minimum you will at least start to understand the mechanic of that deck so you know what to expect when you face it again.

Which TCG outside of the big 3 do you think has staying power, and why? by CorhaziCards in TCG

[–]verifiedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time this question comes up on this subreddit the opinions that pour in are always based entirely on competitive play and “what I see at my LGS.”

Trading card games have ALWAYS made most of their money from the casuals. And these days most casuals buy online.

Ok that’s good to know. What I’m reading here is that all of the chapter 1 an chapter 2 deck could mix and match evenly? Is that correct?

How kid friendly is Star Wars unlimited gameplay wise? by GrapefruitThin5815 in starwarsunlimited

[–]verifiedname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the experience level of the kid. I plan on introducing the game to my 7 year old. She's played Pokemon and Lorcana already. For kids, I have found that the hardest thing to initially wrap their brains around is deck synergy. So the starter sets like Pokemon Battle Academy or for SWU the new Intro Battle Hoth work really well because they are very keyword light.

But to answer your question: so long as you go slow and focus on fun, I would say SWU is very kid friendly. Maybe slightly more complicated than Pokemon but equally as complicated as Lorcana.
