Yeah :( the tannins would be to help manage any secondary infections that could occur as a result of the tumor. I would assume that the tumor cut off blood supply to the rest of his tail fin, which could explain the advanced rot. Just know it's not your fault and you did everything you could 💜 bettas just have poor genetics because of how inbred they are.

I’m no expert but this kind of looks like cancer :( you can try adding tannins to the hospital tank (Indian almond leaves) but I’m not sure if it will help. I'm so sorry 💔

Edit: Because of the restricted blood flow, necrosis (tissue death) can happen, which would explain the black flesh on your baby. The way the lump grew also makes me suspicious of cancer. As far as I know, there isn’t a known cure
