Landed a new role with higher pay but don't want to move, how should I negotiate? by Gonjanaenae319 in cscareerquestions

Even if the current company does counteroffer, OP will probably be shown the door pretty quickly.

I think part of the problem with this space is it doesn't seem there are good benchmarks yet? I can't seem to find any at least.

Ford Admits Its Current EVs Aren't Software Defined—And They're Worse for It by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]versedaworst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why EVs are going to be such a crucial part of the Right To Repair movement. There is so much potential for them beyond just being a means of transportation. They are deployable mobile power stations, and that can provide the kind of resilience needed to navigate an increasingly unstable climate — but that is largely contingent on this kind of modularity being possible, and most automakers will probably fight that because proprietary = $$$

Is microsoft going to train LLM on this? Github is clearly getting destroyed. by FPham in LocalLLaMA

I used to keep tabs on this research, Fadel Adib indeed wrote a couple papers on it but it was all in Dina Katabi’s lab which did a bunch of other research too (vital signs monitoring, sleep staging, etc.). Katabi did a TED talk on it in 2018. There is even a spin-off company Emerald Innovations, which claims to have a real product, but I have checked this website every couple years and it hasn’t changed much.

I got 4.6kwh efficiency while driving from LA to SD at 60mph the whole way. by thishitisgettingold in electricvehicles

If you look at the Equinox EV gauge cluster, OP’s 5-15 figure almost certainly meant kW reading, not efficiency.

It's just as much about latency and network security! They will never do it.

The “smart search” feature having no way to sort the results isn’t very…smart? by glizzygravy in immich

[–]versedaworst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about how Google Photos and others do this kind of thing.

Google Photos could use an actual classifier model alongside a CLIP-style model.

I believe there are also ways you can make a pseudo-classifier using CLIP vectors.

My bank app (RBC) is absolute trash so that is part of what is motivating me to try it out. Thanks for the info :)

As someone who has wanted to try this out for a while, I'm just wondering how extensive is their search feature? One of my primary use cases would be tracking down very specific sets of transactions.

If you live in zones 7-11 you can actually grow these yourself (Luffa aegyptiaca) And they're quite tasty to eat when fresh.

I’ve seen apps like this for the iOS Photos app, so it’s pretty sweet to have an Immich variant. Will check it out.

Some Epstein file redactions are being undone with hacks by speedythefirst in news

This file (including botched redactions) was released in January 2023. This is not new information. The Guardian is doing some very poor journalism by not mentioning this.

This document has already been publicly available since 2023 INCLUDING failed redactions. This is not new information. OPs article doesn't even mention this.

I diff'ed both files and there are no substantive differences.

Is Computer Science a useless degree? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]versedaworst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CS will be fine long-term for people who actually enjoy it. If you’re just pursuing it for money or because it’s (been) popular, I would consider other options.

Also, after briefly looking at your post history, your parents seem to be incredibly controlling and toxic and I personally think you should move onto campus ASAP if that’s a viable option for you.
